Tonight’s episode comes to us from Sacramento, CA (home of Eric the “ack ack” Actor). It was a steady show of wrestling action, with many matches and few skits. Unfortunately I’m way behind in watching and reporting this week’s episode, so I’ll keep it very high level. Next week I vow to return to my painfully over-detailed form.
Here are This week’s Highlights:
HHH starts episode in ring by booking matches for Christian (vs. Sheamus) and Randy Orton (vs. Great Khali). He also talks about how much pressure his new job is, but he loves it. Whatever. Sheamus gets a really good pop upon his entrance to the ring. People have really taken to him as a face, myself included.
Christian battles Sheamus for about 7 minutes and then walks away to get deliberately counted out, thus protecting his title while pulling classic heel coward move. Sheamus next World Champ?! Let’s hope so if it means NOT being Orton.
The voluptuous team of Natalya and Beth Phoenix squash the hottie team of AJ and Kaitlyn. Kudos to Natty and Beth for bringing some semblance of dignity to the Divas ranks.
A chubbier Sin Cara “returns from injury” to defeat Tyson Kidd, using a sommersault senton splash. Is this Cara not on steroids or an imposter?? This one had solid moves but was a little more slow and deliberate. I’m fed up with the whole Sin Cara thing anyway, so don’t like him either way.
In a MitB vs. MitB winners match, Alberto Del Rio defeats Daniel Bryan by submission with the cross arm breaker. This would be a great rivalry if and I don’t get why WWE wouldn’t just put this match on the Summerslam card!? Bryan injured his shoulder (kayfabe) on a botched suicide dive and Del Rio capitalized to lock in his finisher. Afterwards, Wade Barrett came to the ring and delivered Wasteland to Bryan.
New Intercontinental Champion: In a good move, WWE put the strap on a solid worker on Cody Rhodes (which was once the true calling of this title—put it on the best up and coming worker), as he pinned Ezekial Jackson with Crossroads. After the match, Jackson demolished Ted Dibiase for his interference; Rhodes didn’t help out his compadre.
Johnny Curtis squashed by Mark Henry in his SD debut. Sheamus makes save as Henry sets up his leg-breaking routine on Curtis.
Randy Orton lets Khali beat on him for a few minutes and then hits a DDT and an RKO out of nowhere to pin the lame monstrosity.
Christian comes out and promises a special “Surprise” for Orton at Summerslam. So now he’s pulled a 180 from the beginning of the episode and suddenly wants to face Orton in a No Holds Barred?!
