WWE Release Three Stars, Ric Flair’s Birthday, Shad Gaspard Calls Out Reporter, Mickie James Interview
By Keelan Balderson | Feb 26, 2010 | Wrestling News | | Comments

- WWE has released three superstars today. The first is Gregory Helms, which seems to be stemming from his intoxication arrest and the subsequent finding of a soma pill, the second is Diva Maria (who plans to pursue a music career) and the third is Paul Burchill, who has never seemed to make it past jobber status, having several gimmicks over the years.

All were given the “future endeavors” departure on the WWE website.

Maria posted the following statement:
“Alright guys let’s talk. I did not ask for my release. I was released. I am still going to kick ass in other areas!! I am excited about the future! But I am sad about never getting the Championship. I am sad about not getting the chance to go to Wrestlemania again. Passion is my Motivation! Time to Sing! Time to work for Charity! Time to Dance! Time to be Alive again! Much love to my FANS, my FAMILY, the DIVAS, and my FRIENDS! There is a bright new future when one door closes another opens! Bring on the Doors! Spanks and Kisses.”

There is likely to be more cuts after Wrestlemania.

- Ric Flair turned 61 years old yesterday but it is unsure if he did any major celebrating, considering he only just got out of hospital after being assaulted by his wife.

- From Shad Gaspard’s Myspace:
“It has been brought to my attention that there is an article about me for an interview that I did several months ago, that was supervised by the WWE. The interviewer was very cool but for some reason, has decided to take some of the comments I made out of context, and not use our full conversation. At the time of the interview, we were laughing and joking and having a good time. But now, several months later, because of all the press for Conan, he has made me sound ignorant and uneducated by excluding parts of the conversation. This is a common tool of the media. I myself enjoy WWE programming, but at the same time, sometimes find myself disagreeing with the direction things go. Nonetheless, I always understand that there is a bigger picture than what I see in front of me. As a whole, WWE has taken great strides in preserving our PG rating, and has achieved much success, seeing as our ratings have gone up and our viewership has as well. If this story were worthwhile and creditable, he would have put it out several months ago. ….”

- Thanks to Nick Noel:
In an interview with The Wichita Eagle today, Mickie James commented on the recent angle that WWE did where they had Michelle McCool and Layla mock her weight gain.

In it she said, “Everyone was probably picked on at some point in their lives so it really touches people’s heartstrings. Everyone knows how that feels or can relate to that in some way. People can become involved in that because they can feel it.”

What The Hell is WWE Thinking, They have to compete with TNA in March and they are getting rid of people like its candy, Vince and his people need to think before they decide, This is one of the reasons why WCW kicked their ass for almost a year during the monday night wars.

  • Rick

Alright who had the bright idea to release Maria? Bet it was Vinnie Mac. Maria was one of the best WWE had, the other two are Tiffany She went from G.M. of a Brand to development A.K.A. forced to restart her career, and Micky James who is probably next on the list…When the other Diva’s Show up I change the channel before I go to sleep watching them.

  • crybaby

yeah that right Chris thisis why everone i know is starting to wacth more of tna ever week and they are starting to suck all they do is cry and cry like a lil baby get a life low life wwe is going down ever week so tell ppl to join the best from all the rest tna rocksssssssssssssssss hey yo one more for the bad guy and yessssssss its me:)

  • DorkStar

I wonder if Helms will ask his girlfriend to get him a job? Is he even still with Velvet?
I think Maria was fired for the same reason Candice Michellewas. Because she was in Playboy, even though WWE pushed for it i’m sure. That was pre-PG however. I’m sure Ashey could get her a job as a call girl, or a Go Daddy girl gig from Candice. I don’t see them as much different.

  • Peckstar

could well be him, sounds like he is drunk..if Scott Hall is the best advertisement for Tna then we are sunk…The Monster is back….

  • Darren

I can’t believe they’ve cut Maria! Hopefully she’ll sign with TNA, because she is too hot to get off tv! That’d be great. Too bad for Helms, but I guess he had it coming. Burchill wasn’t exactly any good, so fair enough he goes.

  • Carl Keane

Burchill was the best in the WWE in the high points of his stint at WWE. I’d like to see him in the TNA X division. Hopefully teaming with KAZ.

  • Lazar

This is actual proff that WWE dosent really listen or push or care who the Fans actually like.

Im no Maria fan (i personally hate all divas) but how are you going to let the “WWE Universe” vote for their favorite Diva at the Slammy Awards, make her lose every match she has been in since, not give her one women title shot, then release her? Can someone justify that?

  • jonathan

that’s just the inconsistencies of the WWE at work. Right now, they’re doing a commendable job pushing Bryan Danielson on NXT, but then they drop the ball by burying, then releasing Maria. I do believe that Mickie James is next on the chopping block as her pre-cut trajectory is near complete: they mock her for a month and give her the title, then they buried her on her next title defense against, you guest it, Michelle McCool (probably as one of the conditions Undertaker demanded after that entrance debacles)

  • Simon

WWE is dumb. I mean I know why they released her — because she talked how she was going to start toning down her wrestling but still…why would you drop someone who will give you some nice promotion with the Apprentice. If they were smart, they would’ve dropped her after that. I always thought they misused her, just like they misuse some of the women in that she NEVER should have been wrestling in the first place. She should’ve been like Sunny and used simply as a manager but that’s right, WWE doesn’t use those much anymore, outside of Natalya — WHO CAN ACTUALLY WRESTLE!!!

  • Andy R

It will be interesting to see what happens with Katie-Lea who hasn’t (yet) been cut. I had hoped that Regal could manage Sheamus with Burchill’s involved with an all British super group. Never mind

  • Deborah Fisher

Although i don’t know the whole story, nor do i care, i’m actually quite jealous of Ric Flair’s wife. I would love to beat the crap out of him. I’m just saying….

  • Jonathan

This is exactly why I’m considering making the change to TNA. WWE makes the most dumbest decision ever. I mean seriously, think about it, Vladimir Kozlov is just as good as Kurt Angle, maybe even better, and he loses to Kofi in one hit? ONE HIT!? That’s like Spike Dudley beating Kurt Angle with one kick! I flipped the switch, and turned on TNA. Why? Because WWE has no respect for it’s talent what so ever, and it’s so predictable, that it’s not ever funny. Like Austin says, Vince screws almost everyone he does business with, he is a damn donkey, and I hope Bret Hart snaps his back like a twig at Wrestlemania.
