Venis says WWE misrepresenting Gadsden flag:
Former WWE star Val Venis who is a well known Libertarian, took to Twitter following Monday’s Raw in anger over the company’s use of the Gadsden “Don’t Tread On Me” flag in the Zeb Colter & Jack Swagger promo videos…
“@WWE, as u know, I am totally a “Dont tread on me” guy who is for open and free borders. Get the Libertaian platform down instead of making fools of yourselves and fire the writer who equates the “Dont tread on me” flag with racism & closed borders! #ForFuckSakes”
“Whoever the writer is in @WWE who decided to associate the “Do Not Tread On Me” flag with racism certainly did zero research and should be thoroughly embarrassed.”
“Its frustrating as fuck when libertarians are working their asses off at a grass roots level just to have a media power-house @WWE attempt to distort & demonize the liberty movement. I am sure it was not the WWE’s intention but that is the end result. I totally get the evil racists vs immigrant storyline but for fuck sakes, at least reflect the realities in society(research necessary) instead of just throwing bullshit together and harming a very real and meaningful grassroots movement. #tlot”
Modern “Ron Paul” Libertarians are far removed from the stereotypical right wing patriot movement as well as the mainstream Conservative establishment. Stevie Richards, Kane, Matt Striker and Joey Styles are also well known for their Libertarian political views, and RVD & Xpac have made statements in that direction in the past.
The Gadsden flag basically means don’t take away my rights, don’t mess with the constitution. Like a the snake who remains passive until he’s infringed or “trodden” on.
