Damien Sandow vs John Cena: November 28, 2012, WWE MAIN EVENT Review
By Keelan Balderson | Nov 29, 2012 | TV and PPV, Wrestling News | | Comments

I continue to enjoy the Main Event concept, in fact I find it a lot more entertaining than the overkilled 3 hour Raw. Having the announcers hype up the match at the beginning of the show, coupled with video packages, almost gives it a PPV feel, and all the matches so far have verged on PPV quality. It’s also a great platform for lower card talent to perform with a big match presentation. Damien Sandow proved himself tonight.

John Cena def. Damien Sandow:
John Cena graced WWE Main Event for the first time this week, battling one of WWE’s brightest young talents, Damien Sandow. The Intellectual Savior of the Masses carried himself like a true superstar and looked more than comfortable in the ring with the top dog. He also accomplished what many cannot, he drew enough heat on himself to keep Cena the legitimate babyface. I can definitely see this on PPV in the future.

The Cenation leader kept Sandow on the defensive during the match, frustrating the scholarly Superstar to the point of walking away from the match. Cena had other plans and chased after his opponent, throwing him back into the ring and mounting the offense.

Sandow managed to turn the tables with a powerful kick to the sternum that sent Cena reeling. The young competitor then kept the momentum building. With the contest swinging in his favor, Sandow used the opportunity to show off the impressive in-ring skills he learned from the legendary Killer Kowalski, and topped things off with a flamboyant cartwheel. The Intellectual Savior was relentless in his efforts — each time Cena tried to fight back, Sandow managed to keep him at bay.

“The Duke of Decency” kept his momentum until colliding with his opponent in the middle of the ring. As the two ring warriors struggled to their feet, they exchanged blows — going toe-to-toe in the center of the squared circle. Though Cena got the better of the interchange, Sandow impressively managed to keep his hopes alive, tangling his opponent in the ropes.

With Cena struggling to break free, Sandow delivered punishing punches and kicks — though he took plenty of time to taunt Cena and the WWE Universe. He took too long however goading the auidence and Cena broke free. But before he could mount any serious comeback, the kid’s favorite ate the steel steps.

As Sandow continued his attempt to secure the biggest win of his career, Cena overpowered him, tossed him face first to the mat and applied the STF. The Intellectual Savior of the Masses immediately tapped out.

The sky is the limit for Damien Sandow.

Antonio Cesaro def. Zack Ryder:
Although always a pleasure to watch in the ring, it’s now time for Cesaro to demonstrate more depth to his character. The company seems to be headed that way by giving him more mic time, but the US Champion is still not somebody that sticks out in the mind of the average WWE fan.

Long Island Iced- Z tried his best to counter the sheer strength of Cesaro, but the Swiss Superstar’s devastating European uppercuts punished his opponent, giving him the clear upperhand. The self-proclaimed “Internet Champion” was unable to build offense strong enough to swing the match in his favor.

Cesaro rolled out of the ring to avoid a Broski Boot, and as Ryder then leaped over the ropes, Cesaro nailed him with a powerful forearm uppercut. He finished things off with the Neutralizer.

Kingston challenges Cesaro:
Antonio Cesaro addressed the WWE Universe — once again berating America while claiming he is WWE’s greatest champion. As the U.S. Champion raised his title, Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston took issue with Cesaro’s claim of being WWE’s best titleholder. “The Wildcat” challenged Cesaro to a Champion vs. Champion Match next week on WWE Main Event!

Let’s see… Cena got the snot beat out of him then shook it off to win. Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah.. every Cena match and every Hulk Hogan match. And like Hogan, Cena will be coming out of retirement at 55 years old to boost WWE ratings because they can’t bring themselves to let any new guys get over at Cena’s expense.
