Umaga Passes Away

It is our sad duty to report that Eddie Fatu, known as Umaga to WWE wrestling fans has passed away following a massive heart attack. He was rushed to a Houston, Texas hospital and put on Intensive Care after being found unresponsive by his wife, but passed away soon after following a second heart attack.
Jim Ross noted in a blog that it may have been due to sleep apnea, although the word getting around is that it was probably prescription pill abuse.
The 36 year old recently returned from Australia where he appeared on Hulk Hogan’s “Hulkamania” tour.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Samoan family.
ANOAI FAMILY STATEMENT:
On behalf of the Anoai Family and front office of WXW C4 it is our sad duty to announce that earlier today, December 4th, we lost another member of not only our wrestling family, but immediate family.
Eki “Umaga” Fatu passed away today in Houston at the age of 36. While we mourn the passing of Eki, we also remember all the good times that we were able to share with him and the smiles on the millions of fans faces around the world when he walked to the ring to do what he loved most: wrestle.
During this difficult time, we please ask for the fans and the press to respect the privacy of his family during this tough time. When there is more information to be made public, his family will do so. The worst thing that could happen would be to have false information about this horrible situation out there, only to make the situation even worse.
We’d like to thank everyone for their sympathy and prayers and ask that everyone celebrate the life of Eki Fatu.
WWE MAKES STATEMENT:
“WWE would like to express its deepest condolences to Mr. Fatu’s family, friends and fans on his tragic passing. Mr. Fatu was under contract with WWE at various time periods and most recently performed under the name “Umaga.” Mr. Fatu’s contract was terminated on June 11, 2009.”
TWITTER REMEMBRANCES:
Ken “Mr. Kennedy” Anderson: “Say a prayer for my boy Umaga”
D’Angelo Dinero / Elijah Burke: “Pope was informed many hours ago of my friend Umaga. Pope will not comment until the family speaks, neither should you. Prayer is key! ~ PHS”
Bobby Lashley: “Very sad day today. A good friend is gone.”
Daniels: “RIP Eddie Fatu. I’m glad I got to know you in the short time you were here.”
Howard Finkel: “I am saddened by the passing today of Eddie Fatu, a.k.a. Umaga. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

Paul Heyman: “The world is minus one very cool Samoan tonight. We offer our most profound condolences to the Fatu Family.”

C’mon Umaga you can make it! Hopefully he wasn’t sitting there for too long because this sounds like stroke/brain damage territory. =(
Get well soon Eddie! We don’t need to lose another Superstar way too early. My thoughts go out to you and your family. Hang in there.
Eddie (Umaga) Fatu you are in my thoughts and prayers. hope everything ends up good.
I just read that Umaga has just died.
This sucks.
RIP Edward “Umaga” Fatu.
From nearly out of the blue these things happen. Unbelievable.
I will miss the Samoan Bulldozer greatly. The kid in me always remembers the monsters from wrestling, and Umaga played his part great.
That’s terrible! You entertained millions for too short a time. Thanks for the good times, Eddie. You will be missed. My heart goes out to your children and to the rest of your family.
Rest in Peace…
rest in peace eddie. hope your entertaining god in heaven.
big prayers to his family too.
RIP Eddie “Umaga” Fatu
All these ‘RIP Eddie’ comments brought back memories of Guerrero’s untimely death a little over 4 years ago. Now another star left us way too young, with way more left to offer. RIP Umaga
Houston news is reporting that a bottle of pills was found near his bed.
I’m sure this death is somehow drug related! Prescription drug abuse. Somebody needs to step in and do something about this. Pro Wrestling has the most suicides and accidental drug over doses more than any other sport I’ve ever seen. These promoters will rip up a contract of any wrestler once they find out they have an injury that will keep them in active more than a few months. So these wrestlers are afraid, down play their injuries and self medicate themselves so they can perform. I know this for a fact! The wrestlers need a Union or Attorneys to just represent them. Now I’m finding out alot of the wrestlers that died in the 1980’s have all had the same problems.
RIP EDDIE YOU WILL BE MISS BY ALL
FOREVER PARA SAMOA
R.I.L ETI FATU~ You will alway be in our hearts.. never will be forgotten! Love u Cuz!
Alofa’aga mo oe mai lou nu’u o Afonotele~ Ia manuia lau malaga..Prayers with u and the whole family..

Damn…
Truly awful news.
R.I.P.
omg.. i can’t believe umaga is gone, he was a very entertaining wrestler and i think he will go down in history as one of the best working big men in wrestling history. His family is in my prayers. R.i.p. eddie fatu
The wrestling world will miss a great talent. Have seen you in person wrestle a few times. Gave it all. I just hope it is not due to WWE Wellness Policy twice or three strikes. With nose bleed, I sure hope it isn’t coke or some overdose. Hulkmania Tour in Australia was a comeback of sorts for all wrestlers involved. Rest in peace sir. greatly missed.
i suffer from sleep apnea myself as lost my bro and sis to it, slep apnea causes high blood pressure lack of sleep is a major factor in causing blood pressure problems in sleep apnea, even a few days without sleep with sleep apnea can cause long term problems, if this is the case with eddie fatu then people really shuld know more about this condition, I’ve suffered from it for 9 years now, my heart goes put to his family
The first words i said we’re ”Damn..”
R.I.P Eddie.
R.I.P. Eddie “Umaga” Fatu.. This news is very depressing. Once again I have to say it is a shame that all these wrestlers pass away at such a young age. Umaga was very entertaining. Never will forget his great match at Wrestlemania.
rest in peace eddie(umaga)fatu you were a great wrestler and had a good charachter would have been great to see you wrestle in person my prayers go out to your family
I loved you in your rosey role; an excellent tag team wrestler when partnered with anyone and able to hold a variation of strong characters. R.I.P Eddie, No one ever forgets a Fatu.
Eddie was actually Jamal/Ekmo not Rosey – but your comment still stands, he was great when teaming with family members.
Like the match between him and Bobby Lashley in Wrestlmania 23. He was great as a monster wrestler when he took on Kane, Big Show, and etc. RIP Umaga.
Damn Another one That is SAD PRAYERS FOR MR FATU
I just heard happen to Umaga, my brother told me what happen to him. My hearts and prayers go out The Fatu Family. R.I.P Umaga. This is a lesson to all you pro-wrestlers out there, DO NOT TAKE PRESCRIPION PILLS. Thats is not the way to work out, do it old school lift weights. Thats all it takes.
Wow…gonna miss him.
Just shocking, far too many. It’s not that long since we lost Andrew ‘TEST’ Martin. We’ve lost Eddie Guerrero & Benoit in the last 4 years and now Umaga (or Umanga) as Regal often called him.
Lets just hope that 2010 will see far less (or none) with the only exception being of natural causes.
Hope WWE show a video package remembering the Samoan Bulldozer!
This has definitely come as a big shock for me. He truly was one of the greatest characters and wrestlers in the current era of wrestling. Just the way he was able to move around so well for his size and display amazing athletic ability.
I will truly miss him and I wish his family well and my prayers and thoughts go out to them.
R.I.P Eddie Fatu (Umaga) You won’t be forgotten
Very Sad indeed. My thoughts go out to his Family.
Unbelievable.
I’m sure you’re in heaven taking on Eddie Guerrero with Captain Lou Albano in your corner.
