WWE Supplemental Draft Results & Thoughts

WWE completed their Supplemental Draft earlier today on WWE.com to swap around some lower card talent and even up the rosters. Here’s how it broke down.

RAW DRAFT PICKS:
- Kofi Kingston: The initial plan was to build him up slowly and move him to one of the bigger shows. Lets just hope they don’t put him in more squash matches with JBL. That match on Monday served no purpose whatsoever.

- Layla: It’s about time this hottie got to mix it up properly with the other women.

- Matt Striker: I guess he won’t be the mouth piece for Big Daddy V anymore which means V will have to do his own talking – which could make or break his character. Striker is a great heel and is an asset wherever he is. It would be nice to see him wrestle for a change.

- Chuck Palumbo: This guy could easily fill Jeff Hardy’s “not quite main event” role or he could be left fledgling in the lower ranks. I’m personally a fan of his even though it’s an American Badass knock off. There’s nothing wrong with a powerful ass kicker.

- Deuce: It seems his tag team with Domino is now over as Deuce moves to Raw. It will be interesting to see who gets the push out of the broken up team. Domino is still set to be with Maryse, but a draft to Raw may indicate something important for Deuce. We’ll have to wait and see.

- Jaime Noble: This is a very interesting pick considering Noble acts as an agent backstage for lower card talent and when they were around the crusierweights. It could be a sign that he’s set for a bigger on screen role or it could be political to get him out of the creative process.

SMACKDOWN DRAFT PICKS
- Carlito: Well he bashed Triple H and he’s still on the same show. It doesn’t look good for Carlito.

- Shelton Benjamin: Maybe there’s some life left in the Gold Standard gimmick after all.

- Maria: I guess with the new Divas title coming in they’ve decided to throw another Diva in the mix. It would be better to keep one show as the true Divas and the other as the pure female wrestlers.

- Brian Kendrick: Why break up a team that means something with no program. The matches between London and Kendrick could be amazing spotfests, but now they have just been quietly split up. They should have continued the storyline from a few months ago that was dropped for no reason and broke them up before the draft. Oh yeah WWE don’t think about the big picture. I guess he’ll just be Vladimir Koslov fodder.

- DH Smith: He never really got out of the gate on Raw, getting suspended days after debuting. This could be just a draft for draft sake, or a sign that they’re giving him another chance. It seems if there is a new faction in the works containing 2nd/3rd generation stars, he wont be in it.

- Big Daddy V: This behemoth is set to return any time now and he’ll no doubt have the same impact that he has had up until now. It seems his departure has kept him from going stale. It will be interesting to see where they place him on the card. I can’t see him going in to the main event.

- Trevor Murdoch: With Lance Cade getting the chance of a lifetime on Raw this is Trevor Murdoch’s chance to shine as a singles star. He’s a solid worker, has a different look and with the right marketing could go somewhere. Or he could end up teaming with Jimmy Wang Yang. Actually that might be quite entertaining. Hmm?

ECW DRAFT PICKS
- Super Crazy: Heat’s now dead, so what’s best to do with a jobber ECW original? Put him on ECW. That being said it’s a fresh face on TV and he can put on some decent matches to put over the newer guys.

- Mark Henry: Well he was basically on ECW anyway.

- Hornswoggle: What about Finlay? To tell you the truth this sappy pairing of father and son is taking away from Finlay’s tough man persona so if they are separated it’s fine with me. One problem though, ECW doesn’t have enough TV to give Horny TV time every single week. [After writing this Finlay was also drafted over.]

- Finlay: The only positive I see here is that he can coach some of the younger guys backstage, which may be the general idea.

That wraps up the 2008 draft lottery and thank god Triple H didn’t get drafted back like the other year. I look forward to the next few months in seeing where everyone is positioned and the fresh matches we’ll now get to watch.
