WWE Releases Braden Walker (Chris Harris) Already, Full Details

The following is from the WWE website.

“World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of ECW Superstar Braden Walker (Chris Harris) as of August 7, 2008. WWE wishes Braden the best in all future endeavors.”

This should have come as no surprise to anyone. His debut, segments and last match were all terrible and his whole package from name to ring outfit screamed “jobber.” What pains me is that he was pretty good in TNA and at times when he was tagging with James Storm was compared with wrestlers like Edge.

I think there was a number of problems here. Firstly his own fault, he put on weight (maybe because he was scared and wanted to fulfill WWE’s big man fetish). Secondly the development process obviously failed him. Why promote somebody that’s not ready yet? In TNA there’s a lot more in ring freedom and he obviously didn’t take well to the WWE style. Thirdly who ever came up with his gimmick, attire and backstage lines needs some development themselves.

This leads me to the cynical question. Why bring somebody to the main roster, when they are not ready, saddle them with an awful gimmick and feed them poor lines and insulting ones at that (”I heard he’s a real Wildcat”)? Unless they wanted him to fail immediately? There are still politics in the wrestling business folks.

Ultimately the fault must lie with him and from all accounts he’s not the easiest person to get along with. A radio show I used to work for have had first hand experience with that.
