WWE & Former Wrestlers Shamed Again In Benoit Doctor Case
Chris Benoit’s Doctor, Phil Astin was recently indicted on 175 counts of creating illegal prescriptions, most notably to the late Chris Benoit. During the initial coverage of the case last year several other pro wrestlers were alluded to as patients of Astin, although the Wrestling Observer has now named and shamed several WWE wrestlers and former stars in full.
There were 17 patients on the list, including contracted WWE performers Rey Mysterio and Hardcore Holly, who had their medical records seized by the authorities. Former stars Buff Bagwell, Lex Luger, Mark Jindrak and Benoit’s wife Nancy were also on the list as having received illegal and/or over prescribed drugs.
During the initial coverage Rey Mysterio claimed that he only received pain pills (not steroids) to help the recovery of his 6 knee operations. Lex Luger, who has since become partially paralyzed has not been used in the official case.
Rey Mysterio was also part of a relatively small unreported drugs bust early last year, before the well publicized Signature Pharmacy scandal.
Last week Phil Astin pleaded not guilty with his attorney stating “he is not a criminal.”
