WWE and TNA Ratings Might Take Hit From Time Warner Cable Fiasco

With a generally stale product, the rise in tivo and and a billion other cutting edge entertainment options rivaling its product, WWE’s flagship Raw show has been in a somewhat down period in regards to TV ratings. That’s just the nature of the beast. However something else might end up hurting WWE and TNA wrestling’s ratings, and that’s the Time Warner Cable fiasco.

About a week ago the cable provider hit headlines when it revealed they might be shutting out subscribers from Viacom-owned cable channels, which includes Spike TV, the channel Impact airs on.

Today Time Warner Cable announced its first annual loss in six years and is writing down approximately $25 billion in assets after losing significant value with its cable TV properties. To counter this the giant has discussed raising the subscription prices of its regular service, which includes the USA Network (airs Raw) and Sci-Fi (airs ECW). This has already hit the Rochester, NY, area.

With the world in financial crisis it may not be so crazy to predict a few disgruntled customers canceling their subscriptions and therefore missing Raw every Monday and ECW every Tuesday.

This is just another hurdle wrestling might have to face to keep its grip on the domestic market.
