White Ribbon To Educate On The Violence of Pro Wrestling; Oh Please

White Ribbon an organization that addresses violence against women and the Men’s Anti-Violence Council will be hosting a film discussion of “Wrestling with Manhood: Boys, Bullying and Battering” at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 in Room 2520D in the University Capitol Centre, surrounding violence in pro wrestling. The press release reads:

“The film ‘Wrestling with Manhood’ is the first educational program to pay attention to the enormous popularity of professional wrestling among male youth, addressing its relationship to real-life violence and probing the social values that sustain it as a powerful cultural force. Sut Jhally and Jackson Katz — the award-winning creators of the videos “Dreamworlds” and “Tough Guise,” respectively — explore the enduring problems of men’s violence against women and bullying in schools. Drawing the connection between professional wrestling and the construction of contemporary masculinity, they show how so-called ‘entertainment’ is related to homophobia, sexual assault and relationship violence.”

Keelan’s Call:

Oh my god! The only violence this is going to bring up is me coming to the meeting and shooting you all for being complete idiots. Why are people always looking for something to blame? I think I turned out fine and I’ve watched more wrestling than a lot of people.

Hmm tomorrow I’m going to have a meeting that draws a connection between over protective parents, religion, fear, the Government and Education and how this is related to a lack of critical thinking skills, naivety and no ambition. Oh wait that’s true!

One thing Vince might like is how it claims wrestling is a powerful cultural force. Tell that to the advertisers that refuse to endorse WWE. [Good product placement with Mark Henry grabbing those skittles on ECW!]

  1. Well, I turned out just fine too and so did my son. This is such crap.

  2. “[T]hey show how so-called ‘entertainment’ is related to homophobia, sexual assault and relationship violence.”

As a child, I was continuously traumatized by my dad putting my mom in the ‘Figure Four Leg Lock’ when when she didn’t cook dinner correctly.

Then, as a teenager, my friends and I would go to the part of town where gays hung out and and bash them with a “Perfect Plex” followed by a “Shake, Rattle and Roll”.

And recently I read about a rapist who performs an ‘Asai Moonsault’ on his victims.

This wrasslin’ stuff MUST BE STOPPED.

  3. LMAO!

  4. It’s so typical in this day and age for people to use scapegoating to get off the hook. If it’s not this, then it’s violent video games. Or UFC. Or some movie. When I was a kid, we didn’t have all these excuses. You were held accountable for what you did, no matter where you saw it or heard it.

  5. Jesus freaking god! what is the world coming to!?! all this crap about kids killing other kids with wrestling moves that’s their damn fault! the parents aren’t watching them. and who cares to listen to white ribbon. I’d rather listen to Jillian sing than listen to them
