Wellness Policy & Prescriptions, Ted DiBiase Face Turn, Swagger to ECW?
- Due to the Rey Mysterio suspension WWE’s Wellness Policy, specifically the prescription aspect has come back under scrutiny. The main controversy comes from whether Rey did have a prescription and WWE deliberately ignored it, whether Mysterio was just trying to garner sympathy, or he didn’t follow proper procedure and is kicking up a fuss.
Under the Wellness policy wrestlers are allowed to take legal substances as long as they have a valid doctor’s prescription. This should be on file with WWE’s doctors to prevent any misunderstandings. If it is not and you fail a Wellness test for the substance the prescription must be provided asap.
If Mysterio did have a valid prescription it is hard to know where to place the blame. Mysterio should have put it on file, but he also should have been given some time to present it.
Despite all of this there is a third layer. Even if a prescription is provided, WWE’s doctors will scan medical records and make their own assessment. If they deem that the prescription is not needed and was given by a “mark” doctor, the wrestler will still be suspended in case it hits the media, like the Signature Pharmacy sting. It could be that Rey had an illegal prescription in this manner.
The tests themselves are extremely accurate, and if you are prescribed for example 100mg of a substance and it shows you are taking 200gm of the substance, you’ll also get suspended. This is another example of how a legal prescription may still be ignored.
It is also interesting to note that pain pills are allowed, but can only be used on a 60 day basis before it is deemed unnecessary and an “addiction”. Pain killers are literally killers in the wrestling industry, so many turn to pot, which carries a $2000 fine, no suspension, but a possible “jobbing out” session as a warning to get clean. Some stars are now paying this monthly!
We will probably never no the full details of the Mysterio case, but he’s definitely not in WWE’s favor right now. As for the Wellness Policy, it has its critics, but no other sport tests as often as WWE now does.
- It has been long speculated that Ted DiBiase will turn face before the release of The Marine 2, which he starred in. The feeling is that this will likely take place around the Survivor Series PPV.
This will be DiBiase’s big break and WWE will be putting a lot of faith behind him. If however he can’t step up to the game once DVD sales are dropping off, we know WWE will not hesitate to push him back down the card or worse.
- Thanks to Brittany Pickle:
I’m going to the Lexington, KY SD/ECW taping on October 13th and they just updated the card yesterday to include Jack Swagger. This might be a hint that he is changing brands again.

Thats possable Brittany. BUt the last tour i saw on July 5th of this years featured stars from all the shows on a Raw tour. Could be somewhat different since it was and international tour of Australia.
Thanks, Keelan. That was a very good article about Rey and WWE. You took care of all the scenarios. I didnt know many of the things you wrote there.
