Uprising – Week 4

Across the world the WWE Universe is calling out for the old age of wrestling. They want the true wrestling of Hulk Hogan, Rick Flair and Four Horsemen of the 80s. They yearn for the Attitude Era’s unbound theatrics of Bret Hart, The Rock & Stone Cold. And they despise the movement of entertainment slowly falling from its peak with the loss of Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and more recently Mr. Kennedy…

Kennedy…

But as this era is fading out to be reborn there are shimmers of hope for a new age of wrestling that will shine through the dawn of Children’s Censoring to become legends. This is the Uprising…

The All-American American

Let’s face it, if there is anyone with true “All-Wrestling” wrestling skills then Swagger’s the guy. From his debut I’ve never witnessed a heel use so many techniques from the repertoire (since most use a move then taunt and so forth.) And don’t forget the main event light has drowned since his magnificent skills took out, what use to be a good wrestler, Matt Hardy.

Now it’s time to get to the cold hard truth. A good while back someone mentioned the direction of size class in WWE by simply stating the Triple H’s and John Cena’s are soon to be the giants. If this is true, though I already agree with it, where does that leave Swagger?

Even on your TV screen you can see this guy is huge and cocky and one of the biggest stars on ECW, pardon the pun. All in all, we know what happens with large athletes that in the real world would dominate the WWE: Big Show, Kane, Snitsky, Mark Henry etc. They go nowhere in their career. Sure they get thrown a bone here and there with a few titles and good matches but after that you just become the over exaggerated Goliath.

Bad thing is I like this guy in and out of the ring because he has great mic skills as well. But if doesn’t pull some Undertaker feats that make him that true company man then he may get pushed back once he steps up to the main brands. The only hope I have for Jack’s future is the defining line that’s dividing Raw and Smackdown (please go to SD.) Regardless, Jack Swagger is bound for stardom whether it’s just 5 minutes of fame or the longer version of that.

Future Potency:

This one is hard to place. I personally think he should be directed straight into the World Title picture but WWE has never been that kind to ECW stars.

Aah: 2 world titles, multiple IC/US titles, possibly 2 more ECW titles and I’m sure someone will tag team with him (not necessarily garnering a title reign.)

The Match-Up:

Jack Swagger vs.

– Mark Henry: Just seeing these two ECW titans face to face last Tuesday is enough for me to want a singles match between them. And Mark Henry might actually get a good push against someone his own size.

– Kane/Undertaker: Best way to make a name is to slay a monster and Jack has the potential to knock on hell’s door and walk in after. Though I don’t expect him to ever challenge the Deadman, I could definitely see him crossing paths with the big red machine after his return.

– John Cena: If you’re an upcoming star that takes Matt Hardy title first run then the company wants you to make name for yourself. And honestly I can’t see a better position for an upstart to make than taking out the unbeatable jackass John Cena.

Prime Spot:

“The Man Who Loves To Fight”

Yeah, he’s 51 years old and might not be the perfect person to nominate as in their prime but come on. This guy laid out everyone in the main event light and got cheered (something I haven’t seen properly done since the Rattle Snake.) Anyways it’s my column and this week’s prime spot goes to Finlay who I hope gets his well deserved championship title, even if its just the ECW title.

Crowd Attention:

“John Morrison vs. CM Punk”

“No… really, I didn’t mean to kick your ass to sleep after you gave me one of the best matches in my career to date. Honest,” said CM Punk.

I’m stunned about this match because I don’t know who did a better job: Morrison’s wrestling or Punk’s acting afterward. If these two don’t go a second round I’m sure they’ll find another main event for Morrison to highlight.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again Smackdown is the greatest wrestling brand on TV right now.

Dead Weight:

I hate to do it but…

“Triple H”

I’m not going to lie, I like Hunter. From his debut to now he’s never left my top ten favorites. And this is why it’s hard for me to admit “The Game” has been played out. Usually it’s nice to have a superstar that can honestly say they faced the best and the worst this company has to offer but in Hunter’s case it’s just tormenting. Not only has he faced nearly every top wrestler in WWE but he’s done it twice or more times over (with Randy going in his fourth.)

I can’t see Trip going up against anyone yet another time and it actually being interesting unless its Jericho (which would make a good Wrestlemania Raw vs. Smackdown match.) Other than that maybe the game should just spend some quality time home with his kids. Either that or go spy on TNA for Vince (Yeah Right!)

Response to Peers:

– Heat about Jericho/Michaels: WWE stands for World Wrestling Entertainment. To break it down further:

World = Fans Wrestling = In-Ring Ability Entertainment = Storyline

Now before I continue I’d like to say this column is based on my opinions not the world’s opinion. To me Jericho/Michaels had everything to make the greatest feud of such year but entertainment. Sure Jericho’s mic skills had shown its superb development but as a fan I don’t want to waste 30 minutes a week listening to someone talk when they could be wrestling.

So for everyone who addressed this issue, understand that I’m entertained by violence and my short attention span won’t allow me to call 30 minute whining on an already pathetic brand part of “the greatest feud ever.” It was simply boring and lacking outside of the matches. Deal with it.

Have a request on who should be featured on Uprising or you have a complaint about my opinions, then leave a comment and I’ll address it.

Next Week: Dolph Ziggler

  1. I’m going to have to disagree with you when it comes to Swagger’s title reigns. It’s clear from JR’s blogs that this guy is being groomed to be the next big thing and if he doesn’t mess up along the way I can see him being easily as big as someone like Triple H.

I was watching Swagger vs Bourne this week on Superstars and you are right, he is a giant…against someone like Bourne. Against someone like Cena he doesn’t look too massive, certainly not Henry or Kane massive. That is why Swagger will go far, he is big, but he is believable big. A guy like Bourne can wrestle Swagger and not look too out-matched, just compare their match to Bourne vs Henry. It really isn’t the same David vs Goliath, it’s power vs speed, which is a different, more interesting in my opinion, match type. Swagger is only 6″6, several inches off someone like Kevin Nash, who looks fine against most 6″4 guys with a big build.

To me Swagger is the perfect build for WWE and I see very bright things in his future for a long time to come.

  2. I do not mean to offend any one with my coment but when he talks he sounds like a brookyn kid with a speach impeadement(even though he’s from “olkahoma”)if he didnt talk id say yea he has a good road, but his promos can be turned into smartass fodder in a matter of secs. evan the crowd makes fun of him. on another note IF mcmahon wasn’t the genetic jackass we all know he his i could see bourn doing some voodoo and reserecting the murderd(by mcahon)cruiser weight title. but as fans we can only dream.

  3. If the WWE push him right, which hopefully they will, Swagger could be the next Kurt Angle.
