Uprising – Week 5

Across the world the WWE Universe is calling out for the old age of wrestling. They want the true wrestling of Hulk Hogan, Rick Flair and Four Horsemen of the 80s. They yearn for the Attitude Era’s unbound theatrics of Bret Hart, The Rock & Stone Cold. And they despise the movement of entertainment slowly falling from its peak with the loss of Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and more recently Mr. Kennedy…

Kennedy…

But as this era is fading out to be reborn there are shimmers of hope for a new age of wrestling that will shine through the dawn of Children’s Censoring to become legends. This is the Uprising…

Hi, I’m Dolph Ziggler

During his backstage appearances on Raw, I quickly became interested in Dolph. And just as quickly, I lost interest due to overuse and lack of a substantial push in-ring. Then the miraculous all healing draft came along and Dolph made an impact by defeating the talented MVP (and at the time US Champ). And as the most dominate heel move of that night he grabbed the mic stated a reminder to all of those in doubt that he was Dolph Ziggler.

If you don’t like Ziggler then it’s time to face the facts (pun intended). Honestly, besides the top heels of today Edge & Jericho, Dolph has displayed great ring ability and intelligence that hasn’t been showcased in the mid-card for a very long time. His performance against the giant Khali should concrete his path into upper mid-card status because it was believable (take cheap shots, run around the ring, make use of a steel chair and repeat).

And the arrogance on this guy is a travesty. In a short month or two he’s put every Raw heel on the back burner of pathetic by actually knowing what he can do to his opponent (e.i. stating he’d outsmart Khali not necessarily beat him proves he understands his limitations). On the mic he’s a constant threat of absolute perfection but two things have come up that worry me about my favorite up & comer.

Sure I’m going to remember the name Dolph Ziggler but who in the hell is going to respect a name like Dolph Ziggler as a world champion. It was obvious in the beginning that the name was the gimmick but can his attitude and skill really output the name into heel stardom. Speaking of heels, what the hell is with this Maria thing I mean last time I checked she was a face. If you don’t know what happens with girls and boys in the WWE let me explain.

Usually there’s a subtle storyline that keeps the male performer at bay in his current level or erodes it to ECW level superstars, with the exception of women valets such as Stephanie and Vickie for obvious reasons. Now I don’t know if one is going to turn to the others affliction but an abrupt face turn right after a dominate heel run would not be in Dolph’s best interest. I like Maria and I always will, I just hope she doesn’t make me forget the name Dolph Ziggler.

Future Potency:

I suppose we can throw tag titles out of this section for the remainder of unification since top heels have the titles they seem world title like right now.

Ziggler hmmm… Okay.

I’m going to play it safe and say a few but maybe just 1 run as US/IC. I really think the name would kill him in the company’s eyes before reach world title status. However, they have changed names before. Tell me what you think.

The Match-Up:

Dolph Ziggler vs.

– Hart Dynasty: This is in regards to the possible early face turn only. “Now…envision Dolph becoming serious with Maria but retaining his heel ways. Then the Dynasty takes notice and asks him to join. Conflicted between his love life and career he chooses the career suicide and begins to clash with Dynasty to turn face for Maria.” Now throw in a reasonable partner for Ziggler and this could make an awesome storyline. (I have dreams too.)

– Rey Mysterio: On the possibility of him remaining a heel and seeking the IC title. The two giant slayers fighting it out in a battle of speed vs. smarts, I love it. I’m not placing any bets but Ziggler has enough potential to pull an upset victory here. And if Rey continues the path that Jericho has laid out for him this could be halve as great as the Jericho/Mysterio feud, which is still better than anything Raw/ECW has right now.

– John Morrison: As far as main events go I don’t see Dolph meeting the bar. But the next best thing is the guy sitting at the main event’s door step: Morrison. The shaman of sexy vs. absolute perfection in a battle to determine Smackdown’s # 1 A-list rookie. There’s no doubt in my mind who’d win this one, lol.

Prime Spot:

“WWE’s #1 Underdog”

Okay, I admit it this is a SD Edition of Uprising and can you blame me. The WWE universe seems to be in agreement that Y2J is making superstars look better than the WWE could ever do. And this week’s prime example is Rey Mysterio. Say what you will about the repetitive high flyer but after being handed the IC title he’s in a grace period that has yet to falter. Reasonably, if he defeats Jericho Friday to end the feud once and for all then his character won’t be tarnished like it has been since losing the world title some years back.

Crowd Attention:

“Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho”

Yes, again. This has been the best drawn out feud since Undertaker/Michaels, my opinion. With everything I just said I won’t rant about these two much longer. In the end Jericho put on an excellent show that made the Bash. Even I, devout heel, didn’t know who to cheer for in the match. I’m not going to say who I wanted to win but I’m glad Vince didn’t take Rey’s mask like a shameful Eric Bitch-off did. (No this is contradicting because I didn’t say who I wanted to win by praising Vince.)

Dead Weight:

Ricky Ortiz

When I see pathetic I see this face. He has to be by far the weakest link and only flaw in the SD Armada. I mean, on a show with so much talent I don’t need a jobber with a name to make my superstars like Finlay look better. I like my jobbers nameless! Besides if we really needed to put over Finlay all we had to do was make Cryme Tyme trick that wanksta into challenging him to a match. Ortiz is a waste of perfect broadcasting time and it’s time for him to go.

Response to Peers:

Have a request on who should be featured on Uprising or you have a complaint about my opinions, then leave a comment and I’ll address it.

Next Week: Up for grabs if you have a superstar in mind that I’ve forgotten or has yet to be mentioned I’ll do my research and give my opinion.

  1. I think Shelton Benjamin should be next, he has been mid-card for a long time and i think he should at least win mitb

  2. I can’t rmember if you did him or not
    but how about evan bourne

  3. How about you use R-Truth for next weeks uprising.

  4. Dolph Ziggler, I agree with you, Dolph is awesome. Ricky Ortiz has a good look, looks like he can move good and could be a big player in the future, he just needs a good gimmick, Rally Up? Wtf? I’m glad someone else feels my total lack of appreciation for Mysterio. His matches with Jericho have been the first I actually paid attention to the little guy for a long time. Edge Vs. Morrison the other week was a perfect example of what guys like himself and Jericho can do for undercard superstars. Go back to HBK Vs Benjamin in the Gold Rush Tournament. That match alone should of cemented Benjamin as a top player. The problem here which has been well documented.. WWE just doesn’t do big time stars who aren’t caucasion. Sad but true.

  5. if u haven’t done him yet
