Uprising – Week 3
Across the world the WWE Universe is calling out for the old age of wrestling. They want the true wrestling of Hulk Hogan, Rick Flair and Four Horsemen of the 80s. They yearn for the Attitude Era’s unbound theatrics of Bret Hart, The Rock & Stone Cold. And they despise the movement of entertainment slowly falling from its peak with the loss of Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and more recently Mr. Kennedy…
Kennedy…
But as this era is fading out to be reborn there are shimmers of hope for a new age of wrestling that will shine through the dawn of Children’s Censoring to become legends. This is the Uprising…
The Jamaican Sensation
To be honest my first impression of Kofi was, “Cool, a jumping Jamaican,” which in other words meant I didn’t think he would last long. But… a little event known as WrestleMania XVV came around and I was literally hooked. If Kingston’s display in his first money in the bank match didn’t open anyone else’s eyes it certainly opened mine.
As a character with overwhelming charisma, the skill to make an impact and abilities to make you say ‘Ooo’ while staring off into space, Kofi’s not the one to sleep on. Usually I’d affiliate myself with heels with the few exceptions of Morrison and Jeff but this kid definitely makes me want to let one more in.
Now enough about his well-balanced talent cause it’s not going anywhere. His personality has etched himself in stone as a symbol of hope that optimistic people can achieve to (which utterly makes me sick.) He can speak on the mic just as good as today’s top faces, possibly better. Yet the thing that sets him apart from them is Kofi has the potential to eventually turn heel on the long term end of his career.
Arguably most people see Shelton Benjamin as that next superstar that’s going to succeed the Rock’s legacy; well I’m sorry to disappoint but neither Kofi nor Shelton have that. However, Mr. Kingston does have something that separates him from Shelton. Despite the obvious wrestling difference between the two, people actually like Kofi. Go figure. It just goes to show you sometimes WWE gets it wrong (e.i the golden standard) and other times they get it right (e.i the Jamaican Sensation.)
Future Potency:
Okay, the sad thing about this is with Jeff’s mishaps into world championships WWE is basically saying, “You don’t have to have a title reign to be a world champion.”
With that said I expect multiple IC, U.S. and tag team title runs and a max of three world titles for Kofi. It’s as simple as that.
(Disputing the above statement means you like faces and you’re an open-minded person. Well I’m not, sorry).
The Match-Up:
Kofi Kingston vs.
– Evan Bourn: You’ve seen the best of the past fly to the top; well watch the future of WWE leap there. Right now neither one of these superstars is matched in acrobatic skill by anyone (Jeff & Morrison included). For those who believe the cruiserweight division is dead this is your unsanctioned match for the prestigious, but not forgotten, title.
– R-Truth: Why wouldn’t you want to see two quick pace wrestlers flip around the ring while kicking each other in the head. I personally like flips and the infliction of pain on others (note: I said others).
– ???: Once again, I don’t believe Kofi to be a main event wrestler but if you have any ideas who could fill this spot then by all means: voice your opinion.
Prime Spot:
“Y2J”
This guy here, I love this guy here. He isn’t even forty yet and look at what’s he’s accomplished. The guy left for nearly two years and jumped right back in the spotlight. Now I’ll be the first to admit that the whole feud with Shawn Michaels last year was kind of garbage but you can’t keep a good heel down.
Jericho has solidified the breaking of his own record by winning the intercontinental title a ninth time. And you’d think he’d play the bad boy heel of the mid-card but no he jumps right back at what he wants: the world title.
I for one am certain he’ll get someday soon because he deserves it and if the WWE showed him any since of justice they’d let him win it while holding the IC title for our first dual champion in years.
Crowd Attention:
Edge vs. John Morrison
Did I not call this as a great match-up last week? And as suspected it was a hell of a match. I must really point out the fact that no one cheated to win and Morrison didn’t get some cheap victory from a roll up or something. This my friends is how a good push is made. (I just hope after 9 title reigns Edge will become the Triple H of the new superstars.)
Dead Weight:
Donald Trump
Wow!
For me it was a tossup between Ric Flair and Donald Trump but I never (never) thought they’d go with Trump. Though it’s a nice turn it now solidifies my belief that Smackdown is a better show than Raw. Having the nonsense of “chaos” in and out of the ring overlapped by a toupee, I mean Trump, is just going to add to another voice I don’t want to hear every Monday. As soon as he came in he should immediately leave before Uprising is renamed Downfall.
P.S. The videotape thing wasn’t cool with Santino and it was even more boring with Vince.
Response to Peers:
– James Wright: Sorry for the steal last week but the match really sucked. In other news, I truly enjoy the heel report and it was my inspiration to create Uprising. So say hello to your sister column, lol.
– Chris Smith: Ric Flair was overrated long ago and by coming back he ruined his great exit. It’s a damn shame to because with each appearance he makes his status just drops further and further down.
– Defenders of 6-Man Tag: What the Miz did on Monday Night Raw to Goldie and the leprechaun further backs up my claims from last week.
– Everyone Else: Thanks for the support, criticism and so on; I hope it continues. And for those of you have put in your requests I’ll eventually get to them (well, if they have potential.)
Have a request on who should be featured on Uprising or you have a complaint about my opinions, then leave a comment and I’ll address it.
Next Week: “The All-American American” Jack Swagger

uh…michaels and jericho’s feud was epic
Edge and Morrison has a chance of being (if not the greatest) one of the greatest rivalvies in the buisness. If egde steals a title or morrison got the intercontinental belt from jericho or mysterio. this could solidify John morrison of becoming a huge star that could lead the WWE (now that raw not a part of it). LOL
when Vince said he sold RAW, I instantly thought JBL was returning. Trump probably wanted another WWE storyline, as the thing with Vince at WM 23 was awesome. He came back at the perfext time. I imagine he names a GM, and steps out of the way for a little. Selling RAW to a person almost everyone in the world knows is publicity at it’s highest
I personaly see Christian as underated. Also don’t see Shelton Benjamin as anything more then a mid card. CM Punk could be a star if he could REALLY turn heel. As in, turn on the fans like Jerico. Right now his heat comes from beating Jeff Hardy. How weak is WWE creative right now?
As far as Donald Trump goes, he’s good for publicity but that dosent make the show better. When he speaks I cringe. His WM23 bit was good but only because of Vince.
I think the best thing in the WWE right now is a group. The Hart Dynasty.
How was HBK/Y2J garbage?
I really like your article but I don’t see Kofi Kingston as anything more than a Spot Fest. Unlike Shelton and Evan Bourne has little In Ring Pychology and can’t lead a match.
Also how can you say that Ric Flair was overrated???? That’s just ridiculous. Watch his matches with Ricky Steamboat in the early 80’s.
HBK & Jericho’s feud was the best feud of last year. Its been voted so. They had fantastic matches. Great Mic work. The Lot.
