Uprising – Week 2
Across the world the WWE Universe is calling out for the old age of wrestling. They want the true wrestling of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and Four Horsemen of the 80s. They yearn for the Attitude Era’s unbound theatrics of Bret Hart, The Rock & Stone Cold. And they despise the movement of entertainment slowly falling from its peak with the loss of Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley and more recently Mr. Kennedy…
Kennedy…
But as this era is fading out to be reborn there are shimmers of hope for a new age of wrestling that will shine through the dawn of Children’s Censoring to become legends. This is the Uprising…
The Shaman of Sexy
John Morrison’s stance in the upper mid-card level has been constant throughout his debut with MNM. His made highly successful runs being a 5x tag team champion, 2x intercontinental, and former ECW championship (which was still worth being called a title at the time.) And fact of the matter is the WWE are not about to drop this future world champion anytime soon, unless their dumber than we think.
Coming off as being one of the greatest tag teams in about nine years Morrison has the chance to shine in singles competition. In truth, there may be only one thing holding him back: he likes being a heel. Hearing John speak before his match with Umaga showed that he really didn’t know what to say without holding back the arrogance formerly portrayed by the shaman of sexy.
Despite what some of you may be thinking, this shouldn’t be called mic skills since he demonstrated he can handle his own after the split from Melina. And other than him playing a non-talking role on Smackdown I see no reason why he shouldn’t be next in line for Y2J’s title.
Nowadays, good superstars are being cut or just leaving because WWE can’t place their skills right. I’d hate to John Morrison, or anyone else for that matter, be forced to join TNA because they can’t find good writers to match his personality.
Future Potency:
With the mid-card level already rocking Morrison has the opportunity to do what other golden prepped boys have failed to and make a strike towards the world title early in his career. Being pushed as a talent with tremendous skill and one which has the capabilities to win a match could make John the one to bring back the era of long (or at least semi-long) title reigns. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and prophesize a solid 5 world title holds during the course of his career.
The Match-Up:
John Morrison vs.
– C M Punk: Sort of a mock up of Edge/Hardy, this could stand out as that rivalry that has transcended the ages: starting from ECW, now on Smackdown and so on. As Punk presents his trivial kicks against Morrison’s classic aerial arsenal I’m sure they both could elevate the other.
– Edge: If Morrison was to make his step up it should definitely be against this guy. Why? Because Edge knows, I mean, thinks he’s the best and would try to put Morrison back down as not to be considered in his league (like the C M Punk/Edge angle). But with a style more like a younger Edge, Morrison would push the current champ to go back to basics bringing forth a grand match.
– Shawn Michaels: There’s nothing like wrestling one of the superstars you’ve emulated since childhood as the passing of the torch to the next generation. It could give you the greatest match of your career (The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan – Wrestlemania X8) or the most intimate match you could offer your idol with as he bids farewell to wrestling (Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair – Wrestlemania XXIV). Either way these two could definitely go all day with a climatic end at the grandest stage of them all.
Prime Spot:
“The Champ”
This week’s Prime Spot goes to “The Chump,” I mean champ of wrestling. I have to say I personally don’t like his character but I do respe- wait, I don’t respect him either. But since I’m not who he’s trying to appeal to he’ll be happy to know that there’s a world filled with children that believes he’s “amazing.” Regardless, with a never ceasing main event status, happy crowds of kids in the arena and an army of critics (and my person army) Cena definitely could be staying around for awhile.
Well, that’s if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doesn’t show him the ups of acting over wrestling. P.S. The rock would destroy Cena so he needs to stop pushing this Wrestlemania thing cause it’s not going to happen.
Crowd Attention:
I’m supposed to feature this week’s highlight match here but nothing I saw was really worth wild. Honestly it was just the same match-ups in a different order or a different show (which I’ve come to expect from WWE.) But I do have something to point out!
The Miz vs. Commentary & WWE
Are we seriously supposed to buy that the Miz striking John Cena once is more important than him wailing on the Big Show? Really does WWE and commentary think that by repeating over and over and over we’d actually forget that the Miz stood up for himself? And for that matter why would you not want to acknowledge a heel using a chair on everyone in the ring to make an impact, you had no problem doing it with Dolph Ziggler (he’s an awesome former cheerleader.)
If anyone came in late on Raw you missed one of the worst pushovers for that slug Cena in days (he gets pushed over on a semi-weekly basis.)
Dead Weight:
Not being specific on this one but everyone who took part in that six man tag except for Santino needs to be dropped. Then again he needs to be dropped too.
How can you put over a leprechaun, a 6’7 mentally challenged man and a cross dresser for the “kids sake?” Sure it was slightly entertaining a few months ago but now it’s just sick. WWE is more than less putting up a neon pink sign telling your children to: Go to school and pick on the “shortest, dumbest and that funny acting one” kid in your class to make yourself feel a sense of justice.
For the three that I forgot to mention: just leave! Most likely if I can’t remember your gimic then you’re not a true entertainer.
Response to Peers: ((Where I address comments made in the reply section. Any comments here shouldn’t be looked as rude I’m just replying back.))
DonSqueak: If I use a word and spell check doesn’t fix then I’m not changing it, sorry.
JimmyWheeler: My placement of superstars in those respected timelines was based on a ten year span not the actual ages so I apologize.
Have a request on who should be featured on Uprising or you have a complaint about my opinions, then leave a comment and I’ll address it.
Next Week: “The Jamaican Sensation” Kofi Kingston

I really love your articles. I would love to see an article about Shelton Benjamin though. I think he is probably the most gifted in the ring in all of wrestling right now. He just needs creative to give him a gimmick that holds. I really believe he could be the next Rock, HHH, or Austin; if they let him be himself.
So my question is, will you do an article on Benjamin?
Haha, fair enough, but then you could also just write stuff like “I am say” instead of “I am saying”. Spell check wouldn’t complain
. Thing is, I just noticed more and more people writing “I am bias” and I was wondering why it was so. It’s a bit like with “fan fair” which actually is “fanfare” and nobody seems to mind. It could eventually become standard just on the basis of people *using* it like that.
you made a great point about Festus and, Hornswaggle. I know what the WWE wants with this. It’s the kids rooting for the underdog bla bla. The truth is; Festus is a real person, bell ring or not. Hornswaggle is a real person, not a leprechaun and I’m sure he speaks proper English as opposed to screaming. Goldust (Dustin Rhoads) does NOT studder. It’s just making fun of disabilitys and it sucks!
I’d nominate either Morrison vs Jericho, or Ryder vs Bourne on Superstars for this weeks highlight match. They were both great shows of heel potential, and the faces didn’t do too bad either.
Oh and you’ve kind of stepped on my toes with your dead weight section since those three are exactly who I’m going to have in my ‘Flat Footed’ category. I suppose it just shows how bad that match really was!
i think the wwe needs to start to utilise the talent they have while they can before and i can see this happening in the very near future TNA takes over as the top promotin because quite frankly at the moment yeah its like wcw used to be quite a lot of the old faces going from one company to another but i have to say that at the moment younger stars like eric young and christopher daniels are quite skilled in the ring as is a.j styles whom i personally think would suck in wwe because they wouldnt use his potential to the fullest im a loyal wwe fan and rarely watch TNA and as of late the wwe is starting to go into a stale phase again yeah fair enough orton edge and jeff hardy are the top guys at the moment and are doing well to maintain thier status but jericho is running strong and morrison is having a good run but other than that im not impressed i mean you could see the whole triple h returning line coming a mile off n whats the deal with flair why cnt he jus sit back and relax a little not that it isnt good to see him on tv still but i thibk retirement should mean retirement thats it your done goodbyr
Lol man i like your style but i have to strongly disagree with Morrison. Although he is talented i would have to disagree. With the way he is now, as a face (in a black and white WWE) he would be a appaling icon to the fans that actally realise what is going on. Others may not agree but he is Mr Overated 2009. I do not believe it to be fare for WWE to allow Benjamin lose to Morrison countless number of times in a row. And realisticly his moonsault is flashy but obvioualy week.
I don’t agree with you saying everyone in the six man tag needs to be dropped. Noble, Kenderick and Chavo are all fantastic workers however Vince seems to view men of their size as not worthy of a push so simply uses them as jokes. Santino is also one of the only actually funny things on WWE programming and probally the reason not everyone has given up on Raw.
Otherwise a fun article:)
I agree with Morrison being the future of WWE. WHat I don’t agree on is getting rid of santino. Wrestling or not, the guy does his job. He entertains, I would rather watch santino dress drag and put on a show then 1 of John Cena’s top matches any day of the week. I also don’t see your point on the kids going to school and picking on the disabled children. Seeing as all the disable people are faces, it could drive kids to understand and help.
Also, on the Miz, I found that scene very entertaining. I beleive what WWE is doing with miz is going to be the I don’t need anyone heel. The same gimmick they gave Stone Cold before he reached superstardum.
