TNA Raises PPV Price, WWE Booking On The Fly, JR Talks TNA
- In preparation for a boost in popularity from Hulk Hogan, TNA is now increasing their PPV price from around $30 to around $35. The feeling was that no matter what they always did a certain mimimum number of buys, but upping the price might have alienated any fringe viewers. With Hogan they expect a good increase in buyers, so this gives them the excuse to finally hike the price.
Unlike WWE that now gets most of their money from overseas buyers, TNA PPVs are still free overseas
- Unlike during the attitude era when WWE at times had 6 months of ideas written in advance, WWE only finished this week’s Raw script an hour before the show. Granted they now put much more down on paper than 10 years ago, and they have several more hours of programming to deal with, but one has to worry about the future if they are just booking on the fly. It seems to be a case of quantity over quality.
- Jim Ross got straight to the point with TNA on his JRSBARBQ.com blog:
“I think TNA simply needs to focus on their business and not where WWE is or isn’t. Ratings take care of themselves with consistently, good weekly TV shows. I don’t know if Spike can ever over take USA in the big picture. Lots of unanswered questions but the bottom line is that any business needs to focus on what THEY do and not fixate on what the perceived opposition does. WWE is in a different league than any other wrestling company and they have gotten there over a long period of time and lots of hard work. WWE isn’t going to be overtaken most likely by any wrestling company in the immediate or long term future. That certainly doesn’t mean that a company other than WWE can’t find success.”

JR is right. ECW found success on another level than WWE back in the 90’s. TNA stop picking up the leftovers from WWE and build new stars. In the territory days of wrestling, each promotion had to create their own stars and most of them did not copy the other ones. Even the style of wrestling in those differed from territory to territory. It would work today if everyone would stop trying to be the WWE.
im from australia tnt ppv’s are not free
You have to pay each month? Or do you mean its on subscription TV?
I would really love to see TNA or anyone else give WWE some real competition again. Hopefully the Hulkster won’t live up to his reputation as an egomaniac and will actually boost the quality of the product. It’ll be a while before TNA really gives WWE a run for their money, but any start in that direction is a good one.
Build from within is not what WWF ( WWE ) did once Vinnie Mac took over so that JR lame stuff doesn’t cut it. All the wrestlers that he raided from AWA, WWWC, WCW ( TNA ) were established stars that also new how to sell a move and had their characters for years already made. He just put it on a bigger stage. Colonel Tom Parker. So much for the WWE comments that they don’t watch or monitor TNA as they are not competition. Just one persons opinion.
j’r said the right thing i cant say anything else he said my words
