TNA Genesis 2009 PPV Results
Thanks to Jon Jones for these results for the 2009 TNA Genesis PPV from Charlotte, NC:
- LAX and Eric Young beat Jimmy Rave, Sonjay Dutt and Kiyoshi in a six man elimination tag match. Crowd were hot for this match, which earlier in the day my mobile phone told me was an eight man elimination. Young and Homicide both were pinned early, leaving Hernandez against all three. He looked good as he went on to win for his team. Crowd were into it, although the match was hit and miss in places. Makes sense to put Hernandez over strong though, especially with him still having a briefcase to cash in.
- Alex Shelley beat Chris Sabin to become the new X Division champion. Really good match. Fast, frantic, lots of near falls.
- Kevin Nash is off the show and in hospital, supposedly with a staph infection. A replacement for the six-man tag team match will be announced later.
- Shane Sewell beat Sheik Abdul Bashir. Ok match but the ending blew with Bashir and referee Earl Hebner arguing and chasing each other under Bashir was hit by Sewell with a clothesline. Referees came out to celebrate to Sewell.
- Beer Money Inc. beat Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed and Matt Morgan and Abyss to regain the TNA tag team titles. An ok match which suffered from a third team being involved. The crowd didn’t seem into it either. Morgan and Abyss argued after the match.
- Kurt Angle was shown storming into Jim Cornette’s office. Angle said the Main Event Mafia took Rhino out in his hotel room earlier in the day and he wouldn’t be at the show. Translation: He’ll be at the show.
- ODB, Roxxi and Taylor Wilde beat Raisha Saeed, Sojourner Bolt and Rhaka Khan. This sucked. Truly awful. The situation is that with Christy Hemme injured, they needed a replacement for Awesome Kong. But Kong is also injured (and for you guys in the UK it appears she’s off the UK tour) so this match was thrown together. Kong appeared on camera but it was never acknowledged that she was hurt. Kong and ODB got into a brawl after the match, although Kong was unable to do much (looked like a back injury) so chokeslammed ODB.
- Kurt Angle beat Jeff Jarrett in a No DQ match. This was awesome. Just awesome. Say what you want about both guys but they gave it everything here. Jarrett’s selling was some of the best I’ve seen from him in year. Both guys juiced and this was just in a different league to the rest of the show. Jarrett was taken out on a stretcher at the end. Get the replay or buy the DVD just for this match, it was that good.
- Sting beat Rhino to retain the TNA World Title. Surprised? Of course not. Not a good match at all. Rhino (babyface) was booed and Sting (heel) was cheered. Welcome to TNA. This just didn’t seem to work at all, especially after the last match.
- Mick Foley, AJ Styles and Brother Devon vs Booker T, Scott Steiner and KIP JAMES headlined the show. Yes, Kip fucking James. Booker T announced Kip was replacing Nash and the crowd just sighed. It was such a diappointment. The match went to a double countout. Jim Cornette came out and ordered it to be restarted. Booker said Cornette couldn’t do that. Foley said he could though and restarted it using Hardcore Rules. The usual kind of hardcore match followed, with the Front Line getting the win when Foley pinned Steiner. Couldn’t Kip have at least been pinned?
An ok main event to end an ok show. Angle vs. Jarrett and Shelley vs. Sabin at least made the show seem PPV quality.
