TNA and WWE Pick Up On Brock Lesnar’s UFC Victory; But Why?
Both TNAWrestling.com and WWE.com published some congratulatory messages on Brock Lesnar’s impressive UFC victory over Randy Couture. To some this may be wrestling giving its nod to a former star, but in the world of website traffic and advertising revenue it is not hard to see why they’d post such messages. If it’s hot, then jump on the bandwagon, Jim Ross was doing it right up until the fight.

“Everyone at TNA Wrestling would like to congratulate Brock Lesnar, who defeated Randy Couture in Las Vegas to become the new UFC World Champion. Lesnar made the successful transition from pro wrestling to mixed martial arts, ultimately winning the top prize in the UFC at Saturday’s Pay-Per-View event.” The story then turns to teasing Kurt Angle’s involvement in mixed martial arts in the future. “Will Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle follow in Lesnar’s footsteps and enter the world of mixed martial arts?”
WWE wrote:
“Congratulations to Brock Lesnar, who becomes the first man to capture both the WWE Title and the UFC Heavyweight gold,” read the caption under a photo of Lesnar from his WWE days. UFC bought a lot of advertising space on WWE.COM leading up to yesterday’s PPV. “For his part, Lesnar took the
encouragement of the WWE Universe and the hard lessons forged during his fiery time at WWE and showed UFC and the world why he is not only a man of mettle but also a former three-time WWE Champion.”
Whether its to pull in search engine traffic for people searching Brock Lesnar, whether its to push the release of a DVD or whether its to trumpet ones own company, there’s no denying that UFC is hot right now and wrestling wants in on the action.
