The Real Deal: WWE-TV: Wave of the Future?

The word is WWE is campaigning and working hard to get their own cable TV channel. I think it is really fantastic–I hope the deal goes through with flying colors! That channel could be the biggest and best thing to ever happen to pro wrestling if it is utilized properly by the powers that be.
This could be a huge opportunity for them and wrestling fans everywhere as well. This TV channel to turn things around, to make others see everything great the fans have seen in pro wrestling all along! If quality programming is featured it could revolutionize the way pro wrestling is viewed and respected by the entire world. If we as the fans let our feelings be known in the form of feedback and viewership numbers I truly believe the WWE will respond positively and give us what we desire.
There could be exciting and original shows airing; good shows that will feature the wrestlers but not be about wrestling itself. A cooking show, a travel show, a show geared just for women, a documentary series—each of them excellent opportunities to promote feuds, perform and promote charity work, and keep injured wrestlers in the public’s eye and mind. Such shows could also make fans see favorite wrestlers in a new light or even open them up to a completely new fan base.
Made for television movies could be aired–original movies showcasing the wrestlers in many, many different ways. The obvious is to make biographical movies about the wrestlers, but it can go much farther than that. Just about any wrestler could be worked into literally thousands of different stories; virtually any genre could be adapted and used. Quality movies that would make reluctant or hesitant people sit up and take notice. Programming so innovative and good the wrestlers, shows, or movies could be nominated for Emmys.
I am so thrilled about the prospect of a WWE cable channel. I truly believe it could be the hand up that pro wrestling has been seeking for many, many years. It could be the stepping stone to the credibility the WWE has always deserved. It could be a gateway to millions of people who have yet to realize they are pro wrestling fans. It could be the vehicle that ensures the pro wrestling we all love finally garners the esteem so many other high-profile sports enjoy. I hope WWE pulls it off, I think it could very well be the tool to mold the future of all pro wrestling.

I dont really understand how a wwe channel would work. What will they do play old wrestling matches start a interview segment? I dont understand how this can work.
WWE has a huge library of wrestling footage dating back to the 60’s – from almost all of the major promotions that were ever around in every era. There is no limits to the amount of programing they could showcase. They already do it with their 24/7 deal, but this would be a proper cable channel with wider access. All day they would basically play various old shows, round-table discussions, themed hours like “best cage matches” etc and they could obviously do some of the suggestions Roxanne made. There really is a lot they could do.
Whether it will happen is another matter, but Vince is working on it.
I think this could be a great way for WWE to spread its horizons. It would also help give publicity to other main event wrestlers that not everyone will know. It’s time that non-wrestling fans knew more people than Hulk Hogan.
I agree with you Roxanne…
As long as its done right of course. If its done wrong, the entire industry could end up looking even worst than it already does.
Hope it happens though.
I say where do I sign? This channel will mostlikely will not only work but will increase the enormous fan base we already do have, think about this 52 weeks a year, 20,000 raw fans live every week,20,000 ecw fans live every week, 20,000 smackdown fans live every week not to mention the mililions who dont get to be there but are watching from home or someone elses home, now you say a full time channel dedicated to wwe wrestling ,not just superstars but up and coming stars and all us fans, it may showcase personal lives of all past and present wwe stars, maybe even some fans may get their 15 mins. i see the potencial why don’t you?
