The Heel Report – Week 8
[Editor's Note: My fault for this being late, sorry guys]:
As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.
This week’s top ten:
1st Place: The Miz
A momentous event this week as the Chick Magnet gets away with calling Cena a coward to his face and giving him a massive hook. I am just blown away by the push The Miz has been getting recently. Perhaps the WWE creative really do think The Miz is awesome. I certainly do. (10/10 points)
2nd Place: Dolph Ziggler
A big impact in a short amount of time has Ziggler in second place again this week. A small time match but a big time heel presence earns the newcomer a nice and shiny, although not as shiny as his hairdo, nine points. (9/10 points)
3rd Place: Chris Jericho
A monopolising McMahon took up most of Y2J’s promo time this week on Smackdown and so the man that I would call the top heel in the company today was left to scrape back his points with just one match…a steel cage tag-team match, needless to say Jericho did a superb job with the short time he had, now if only WWE could make promo time for actual wrestlers. (8/10 points)
4th Place: Edge
The Rated-R superstar had a similar problem to Y2J, although usually Edge takes in most of his points from singular main-event matches anyway so it was not such a big hurdle. But how can you be the face of Smackdown when some self-inflated geriatric takes up all your airtime? (7/10 points)
5th Place: Randy Orton
An impressive win and being subject to a pointless sneak attack lands the Legend Killer in fifth place this week. It really does seem like if Orton wants to truly succeed in the WWE then he desperately needs to put his former mentor on the shelf permanently, storyline-wise or otherwise. (6/10 points)
6th Place: Jack Swagger
The All American-American continues to show dominance in the ring, but again there is not enough airtime for this young dynamo. The sooner Swagger is moved up the better in my opinion, he is pure wrestling gold and deserves a shot at some, not crummy silver. (5/10 points)
7th Place: Shelton Benjamin
The Gold Standard really stepped up this week. Shelton needs to capitalise on this somewhat new gimmick as he seems to have passed his peek in the company and if he doesn’t make an impact soon he will be forgotten as soon as he is wished success in his future endeavours. (4/10 points)
8th Place: Maryse
She’s beautiful, she’s bad and she’s back! Maryse uses her elegant limbs to once again clamber up the heel chart. This diva is rough and forceful enough to make a name for herself in the WWE and we are seeing it week to week. (3/10 points)
9th Place: Michelle McCool
Smart and dirty tactics are a heel’s bread and butter and McCool is showing that she has them in spades. With a devious, yet seemingly unthreatening, sidekick Michelle is a fitting Smackdown counterpart to the lovely Maryse. Now if only the announcers would stop using that annoying slogan for whenever the divas are in action. (2/10 points)
10th Place: Matt Hardy
Holding on with a no longer broken hand is V1 this week. Will he work through his new injury now that this one has healed? If he does then he is scarily dedicated, if not then don’t expect to see a Hardy on the chart for several weeks to come. (1/10 points)
Overall top ten:
* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 72/80
*2nd Place – The Miz: 59/80
*3rd Place – Edge: 57/80
*4th Place – Randy Orton: 48/80
*5th Place – Jack Swagger: 44/80
*6th Place – Dolph Ziggler: 38/80
*7th Place – Matt Hardy: 17/80
*8th Place – The Big Show: 17/80
*9th Place – Maryse: 15/80
*10th Place – Ted DiBiase: 13/80
Weekly Filler:
The Face-Off: Vince McMahon
I am convinced that this man will be the death of his company if he is not careful. Do you remember when Vince McMahon appearing used to mean something? When it would be part of what you tuned in for, and sometimes it was even funny. I do. The only problem is that the last time it felt like that was several years ago. He needs to go.
Saying things like “cut the cheese” does not equal funny, or ratings. He just wastes time that could be used to push new talent or solidify a storyline. The real shame of it is that we all know that no one can tell McMahon to go home and things will probably only get worse until the guy keels over.
Face the Facts: John Morrison
Formerly known as “Johnny Nitro”, John Morrison has been impressive every week since his face turn. He stepped away from the mic and started showing us what he could do in the ring. Beating the World Champion just shows how much faith the company must have in this guy. This is certainly one face who actually deserves a push and is proving so more and more every week.
On the Rise: C.M. Pink
His addiction is competition. It makes so much sense now! Recently Punk has started saying this slogan that he first stated around his debut. At first I thought it was just a pointless sound-bite, but now I understand that this is the key to his heel turn. Punk can’t stand to lose. He will shake your hand before a match, but if you beat him he will turn your lights out. This makes him a hypocrite in the eyes of the fans and makes his heel turn understandable in both character and action. That is so much better than him just going out and doing the usual thing of saying the fans turned on him or something. I’m very impressed by the subtlety and realism of this heel turn. I can’t wait to see more.
Flat-Footed: Matt Hardy
I’ve been watching Matt the last few weeks and whilst he had a great start as a heel and the announcers play him up as some dastardly villain, he actually does very little heel work in the ring. Sure there is the occasional glimmer and he uses the cast, but that’s about it. There is nothing really there that screams ‘top heel material’. Now with another injury as well you have to wonder how much gas Hardy has in the heel tank.
An overall slow week for heels, and for the report *sorry*. Service will improve when internet connection is restored. The main occurrence this week is that the younger heels, partially with the help of Mr. McMahon, have managed to stay on top for a second week in a row. Is this just a glitch in the system or an emerging trend? We will just have to wait and see.

Just a shame that they gave The Miz up to Cena in that squash match, which is all it was really, Miz got in a little offense but overall Cena made The Miz look like a small child in a mans world at The Bash. Was a shambles, they could of done excellent stuff with The Miz but he is more than likely tarnished now. Who will ever think The Miz can beat Cena or any other big name after that?
I’ve been against the CM Punk heel turn (or lack of). I now see what there going for. He seems less likeable every week. Then he seems confused that everyone likes Jeff Hardy more.
It reminds me of Brett Hart and Shawn Michaels. Just not nearly as good.
I’m willing to go with it for now. Wrestling tends to be BAM you’re a heel. This is more believable.
