The Heel Report – Week 7
As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.
This week’s top ten:
1st Place: The Miz
The Chick Magnet steps up to the head of the class this week with a couple of great heel spots. The loud-mouthed poser is steadily making a name for himself with deeply personal and insulting promos that perhaps hit a little too close to home, or a little below the belt in Hornswaggle’s case. (10/10 points)
2nd Place: Dolph Ziggler
Intelligence and Guerrero-esque antics earn Ziggler an impressive nine points this week. It seems like the WWE are firmly behind the newcomer to Friday nights, giving him a ‘smart man’ angle and a couple of wins over Khali to build his momentum. The rest is up to him. (9/10 points)
3rd Place: Chris Jericho
Another great showing for Y2J and a place at the top if it had not been for a couple of sneak attacks after his match on Smackdown. With solid in-ring and promo work one can only wonder how long it will be before Jericho will be looking to “save us” from the straight-edged champion. (8/10 points)
4th Place: Edge
The Rated-R superstar taunts his way into fourth place, stealing John Morrison’s momentum and reminding us who the real face of Smackdown is. Can Edge stay in the title picture with superstars like Jericho and Morrison gunning for his position? We’ll just have to wait and see. (7/10 points)
5th Place: Jack Swagger
Swagger is back in full swing on ECW and looks to be striking up a good relationship with the Hart Dynasty. Perhaps a possible merger is in the near future with Swagger as champion and eventual face turn against the faction. But I digress, mid-place on the chart for the ‘All American’ American. (6/10 points)
6th Place: Finlay
A new style for the returning Finlay that channels his earlier days. It’s good to see WWE experimenting with ‘tweaners’ in this PG climate. The company seems to be testing the waters with wrestlers like Christian, C.M. Punk and now Finlay showing slight heel tendencies. (5/10 points)
7th Place: Michelle McCool
A vicious attack on her opponent for The Bash means the first appearance for McCool on the heel chart. While she didn’t do too well on the mic, a nasty attitude could do a lot for the statuesque blonde, propelling her further up the chart and in the WWE in general. (4/10 points)
8th Place: Tyson Kidd
The Hart Dynasty member shows us some textbook heel-stable moves this week as he hangs Christian up on the ropes to help Hart Smith get a victory and shouting from the apron in a terribly whiny voice didn’t hinder his performance either. (3/10 points)
9th Place: Ted DiBiase
Being Orton’s backup doesn’t always get you places as DiBiase only manages to grab ninth place and a meagre two points. Perhaps a tag team title win will put the pair in a better position. (2/10 points)
10th Place: Cody Rhodes
The Legacy duo comes in at the bottom of the chart this week. Working as a team they mimic each other’s points and I am forced to play favourites to decide who goes where. People criticise Legacy but in terms of what it is, i.e. a team to support the rise of Randy Orton, they seem to be doing a pretty good job to me. (1/10 points)
Overall top ten:
* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 64/70
*2nd Place – Edge: 50/70
*3rd Place – The Miz: 49/70
*4th Place – Randy Orton: 42/70
*5th Place – Jack Swagger: 39/70
*6th Place – Dolph Ziggler: 29/70
*7th Place – The Big Show: 17/70
*8th Place – Matt Hardy: 16/70
*9th Place – Ted DiBiase: 13/70
*10th Place – Tyson Kidd: 13/70
Weekly Filler:
The Face-Off: Triple H winning the battle royal
Please save us! Short of John Cena anyone would have been better than Triple ‘I’ve faced every main event level talent so many times it’s just boring now’ H. This is why people have been saying that newer guys need a push because you start to get situations like this where you are just regurgitating old rivalries that no one wants to see because it was only a few months ago since the last time the two ‘locked up’.
We all knew it wouldn’t be the Miz who won but at least that would have been interesting. Not sure why they didn’t pick the Big Show and have Hunter in his corner at The Bash or something. I’m still behind the whole ‘Show vs Legacy’ idea, but I doubt WWE will ever go there.
Face the Facts: Finlay
The fighting Irish bastard made a good return this week. To be honest I hadn’t even remembered he had gone but boy did he put me on notice. With shots to everyone in his path I think it is safe to assume that the fighting Irishman is back with a new attitude and an agenda that could propel him to ECW main event status, at least for a couple of weeks before creative run out of things to do with him.
On the Rise: Zack Ryder
As the excellent Matt Striker pointed out this week, the hair picking sensation seems to own Superstars on Thursday nights. Last week his match got him into a high position on the heel chart, this week Ryder was too busy winning to even appear! Yes I have covered Long Island native before in this section but he was ‘on the rise’ then, and he is still rising now. Seeing athletes like Morrison or Ryder getting a push gives me faith in the WWE and tempts me to believe that they are indeed getting behind new talent. I won’t hold my breath though. For now we should just content ourselves that being an obnoxious pretty-boy doesn’t do anything to harm your career in the WWE. In fact in most cases it can be a substantial help.
Flat-Footed: The Big Show
From now on referred to as ‘The Mighty Jobber’. Sure it’s good to get other people over with the crowd, but when it’s guys like Cena or Triple H who are as over as they could ever get I don’t really see the point. The Big Show came back with so much in his favour; leaner, faster, more moves but none of that seems to have done anything for him. It is just a shame when an athlete is wasted like this, especially the world’s biggest one. Maybe Show could be written in as a mid-carder instead and go for the US title. Just please no more David vs. Goliath or Cena matches, they have been done to death.

Miz is seriously my saviour on Raw. I dont give a damn what those kid fans think. He is awesome
He is definitely on the rise in big way! His promos are excellent as well. I just hope he has somewhere to go after this whole Cena thing is done with. I reckon US title maybe.
Good job ranking McCool. She’s a glimer of hope in a sad ass’d womens division. She’s no Angelina Love but she’s close.
As far as the Miz goes, he’s supurb. He’s what a heel should be. The phrase “I AM BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU” is used a lot, but it never gets old. That’s what’s missing in CM Punks turn. I’m going to give this one time because maybe they’re going the subtle route. When it comes down to it; Are you a good guy or a bad guy? Are you Batman or the Joker. What’s up? It’s starting to piss me off. It only takes one phrase “I don’t care if you people like me or not… I’m the champ!” I’m gonna give it time because this may be a brilliant plan to manipulate CM Punk fans. If is I say, it’s gone long enough. DO IT already!
