The Heel Report – Week 5

As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.

This week’s top ten:

1st Place: Chris Jericho

I am in awe of Y2J this week. A sneak attack by Mysterio couldn’t pry the self-proclaimed face of Smackdown off the top spot after two separate and masterful heel outings. Facing down R-Truth, inspiring Ziggler and making the crowd boo him just by looking at them proves why Jericho is #1. (10/10 points)

2nd Place: Randy Orton

The Legend Killer proved his namesake by destroying any chance the Nature Boy had of getting back in the ring, and ironically, perhaps saving his legacy by doing so. Orton punted Flair back into retirement and gained himself second place in the process. (9/10 points)

3rd Place: The Big Show

A merciless attitude catapults Show up the charts this week as the World’s Largest Athlete laid out both Cena and his own tag team partner. Sure he lost the match, but who cares when your size 22 EEEEE steps you easily into third place. (8/10 points)

4th Place: Dolph Ziggler

The platinum blonde from Hollywood, California might have been beaten twice this week but it doesn’t stop him taking the number four spot after having great heel chemistry with Chris Jericho on Superstars. Ziggler worked the ring and the apron like a natural and seems to promise big things despite his meagre Spirit Squad background, but then after being a green-wearing, effeminate, cheer-leading jobber surely the only way is up. (7/10 points)

5th Place: Vicky Guerrero

General Manager of Raw is a busy job and as such we haven’t seen the swine-like banshee grace the chart before now. But it seems that Vicky finally decided to throw her weight around a little and cackle her way into fifth place, usurping Maryse’s place as dominant heel diva. Why God, why?! (6/10 points)

6th Place: The Miz

A static week for the Chick Magnet as he stays at sixth, grabbing onto another five points. Cockiness and cheek can only get you so far and a punch to the back of the head by a giant can get you a concussion. Let’s see if the ambassador of awesomeness can raise his position next week. (5/10 points)

7th Place: Edge

Cutting Edge antics aside, the Rated-R superstar just wasn’t able to get it done this week. An unexpected attack on Hardy didn’t pay off as Edge was left lying at the end of Smackdown and was only able to make it to seventh place on the chart, a far cry from last week’s silver spot. (4/10 points)

8th Place: Tyson Kidd

Interference and cunning were the name of the game this week for the ‘catalyst’ of the Hart Dynasty, leading the pink trunks wearing, Chris Tucker impersonator to keep his spot at eight in the chart. (3/10 points)

9th Place: Matt Hardy

Try as he might the inventor of Mattitude just can’t work his way back up the chart, staying at nineth place again this week. Perhaps a role as Vicky Guerrero’s lackey is not the best move for the cast wearing Hardy. Can Matt wrestle back his heel spotlight back one-handed? We will all just have to wait and see. (2/10 points)

10th Place: Jack Swagger

The smell of desperation clings to the last place on the chart as an outshined Swagger tries to fight his way back into his position of dominance on Tuesday nights. Perhaps ending Tommy Dreamer’s illustrious career at Extreme Rules will give the All-American American the strength he needs. (1/10 points)

Overall top ten:

* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 46/50

*2nd Place – Randy Orton: 38/50

*3rd Place – Edge: 34/50

*4th Place – The Miz: 32/50

*5th Place – Jack Swagger: 25/50

*6th Place – The Big Show: 17/50

*7th Place – Matt Hardy: 16/50

*8th Place – Dolph Ziggler: 14/50

*9th Place – Maryse: 11/50

*10th Place – Tyson Kidd: 10/50

Weekly Filler:

The Face-Off: Hornswaggle

On Raw now the ‘little bastard’ as he used to be known before this kids initiative is causing much more damage than he ever did on ECW, damage to other superstars careers that is. Take this week for example; the little leprechaun not only keeps Kendrick’s momentum down by him being beat by the child-impersonator in green, but he also takes more heel heat off Noble by having him not want to hit the little guy. So now what is Noble’s character? Will we see him help out Hornswaggle and Goldust in any way? Well it’s more likely he will go back into the shadows for a couple of weeks and then come out as a jobber heel again against Cena or something.

A major problem I have with Hornswaggle, apart from the fact that he is a little person acting like he is a child, is that the announcers are so up on him. It’s back to the Cena* thing that the kids initiative has just made so much worse. Now instead of clashing and presenting both sides in pantomime disagreement, both announcers try to put over the faces as hard as they can. I could put up with the Pint of Guinness sized wonder if one of the commentators would just say; ‘who is this punk running about under the ring, distracting us from any real wrestling that takes place?!’ But they don’t, all you get is forced cheers and fake excitement, and Michael Cole saying; “That Hornswaggle’s a character.” In happy abandon. The expression used to be; ‘if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Now in the WWE it seems to be; ‘if you can’t say anything nice, say something pointless and try to make it sound like you are being nice.’ Terrible.

*Special note: The start of the Cena-Edge video package on Superstars. Quite simply; John Cena, I hate you.

Face the Facts: Kofi Kingston

To be honest when Kofi came to Raw I was worried about him. Would he really fit in? Had he had enough time in the company to make a name for himself? Could he grow in popularity at a steady rate? We’ve all seen superstars who’ve swapped shows fall into the traps of not meeting these questions, fortunately for Kingston the answer to all of them is a resounding ‘Bo, bo, bo!’ (I’m pretty sure it’s ‘bo’ and not ‘boom’ like king says every week, maybe I’m wrong on that)

You have to give it up for the Jamaican Buzzsaw this week as he took on the rising face star of MVP and won. Not only that though but he really did seem like the crowd favourite, showing that Kingston has a place in the hearts of the Raw fans despite not really being involved in any major storylines as of late. We can only wonder now if this title win will give Kingston the fuel he needs to have some decent feuds over the next coming months before perhaps being propelled to main event status. I for one hope this is the case.

On the Rise: The tag team of Ziggler and Jericho

I was surprised when I heard about this pairing on Superstars and I was interested to see what would come of it. I found myself pleasantly surprised when the wily veteran and the young upstart worked amazingly well together, I can only believe that this is how the team of Jericho and Cade would have operated if it was ever allowed to get off the ground. If the WWE are looking for a place for Ziggler then this could be it! More likely this will be a onetime pairing but I really do hope that I am wrong on that one. I’m not sure if Ziggler should be Jericho’s enforcer or lackey since Jericho needs no one when he comes out on the mic, but perhaps an ally backstage who helps him out when his mouth gets him into trouble. I doubt WWE is planning any of this but maybe if when Jericho is talking Khali comes out and there is a whole tag team angle of the two cheating heels against the giant and the midget. Who knows what the future will hold for this pairing, all I will say is that I was impressed.

Flat-Footed: Jamie Noble

A bad return for the poor man’s Spike Dudley. Selling out his heel persona to help the Hornswaggle/Goldust-Kendrick angle, God I hope that’s over soon. I want Kendrick to find a partner, but all this in the meantime really isn’t helping him look like anything more than a joke. This is why I hate novelties in the WWE, because when you let them win it doesn’t boost them and it demotes the person they beat, so they are just dead weight to make McMahon chuckle. How can you claim to be ‘The Pitbull’ if you won’t attack an opponent viciously no matter who they are. The WWE creatives could have given Noble some real heat by having him work with Kendrick and demolish the joke of a team or the leprechaun and his pot of gold, (did I mention I hate that angle) and although I don’t know who Kendrick’s partner will be eventually, I think Noble and Kendrick would have made a really good tag team and would have given Noble, who is good in the ring, another chance to get out of his jobber funk. Unfortunately it was not meant to be.

Lots of changes this week; a new dominant diva *gag*, a couple of new appearances in the overall top ten, the appearance of two potentially great heel tag teams (although one really worked and another didn’t because of two inarticulate waste-of-space faces) and the first consecutive winner of the coveted (If Cena can pretend his and Edge’s rivalry is one of the best of all time I can pretend heels actually care about this report) top spot on the weekly chart in Chris Jericho. Come back next week to see how the matches at Extreme Rules impact the chart.

  1. Quick note; I meant to say Cena-Big Show package instead of Cena-Edge but who cares, it’s Cena after all!

  2. I agree with everything you say…But I sorta disagree with the Randy Orton being #2 heel…I am a HUGE Orton mark, but the past few weeks he has been extremely boring and predictable to watch, now i know this is the writers/creative teams fault, but My Goodness have htey made Orton look like a complete wuss. I have never seen a champion almost look like jobber status along with the entire Legacy stable. It’s a shame.

I believe they need to make Orton more badass, but probably can’t because of the kiddies. Seems like anymore in the WWE heels NEVER win. Orton was the top heel of the company going into Wrestlemania, but now they have made him look sooooooo weak it has become ridiculous.

  3. Well he’s only number two because he had the second most points this week with no minus’. Edge actually got as high as Orton with eight points a piece (in my private heel marking that doesn’t get shown on the report), but the attack against him from Hardy ended up with him having a score of five. Jericho got a score of 18 which is hugely high for a non-ppv week (they factor in the week after they are aired). If I could have I would have given him more than ten points on the chart.

The truth is about Orton is that he just doesn’t get many minus’, running away and using your lackies as human shields isn’t a negative for a heel and he never actually gets caught and owned like Edge was this week.
