The Heel Report – Week 27

As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.

This week’s top ten:

1st Place: Chris Jericho

It starts to become a question now of what is this man on? How can one man be in so many places and wrestle so many matches in such a short space of time without becoming seriously injured or fatigued. Well whatever it is it’s clearly working! Once again Jericho takes first place. (10/10 points)

2nd Place: Batista

The Animal had a great second week on the heel side of things as he manages to get nine points and keeps up the heat he got from his turn at Bragging Rights. Letting Hardy hit him with a Twist of Fate somehow didn’t diminish his powerful persona and the denial of the Batista Bomb at the end was a nice touch. (9/10 points)

3rd Place: Sheamus

What a difference a week makes. Another night on Raw, another match against Jamie Noble, but this time WWE creative booked it right and Sheamus came off with a lot of heat. Hitting a Powerbomb on the floor and making Noble make some of the strangest noises I’ve ever heard moves him into the third spot on the chart. (8/10 points)

4th Place: The Miz

Despite having to work on the mic with the desiccated parrot that is Sharron Osbourne, the Miz did a pretty decent job on the mic this week and gave a good showing in his match with Bourne. The more clean-ish wins the WWE hands him the more I start to believe he actually has a future. (7/10 points)

5th Place: The Big Show

A great showing from the World’s Largest Athlete, taking out DX and Cena, with the help of his esteemed tag team partner of course. After getting taken out last week you knew the backlash was going to be bad but who’d have thought the WWE creative were set to make him look this dominant in his revenge by taking out Raw’s top faces. (6/10 points)

6th Place: Jack Swagger

A minor appearance on Raw and a third straight win over Raw’s newest jobber is just enough to get Swagger into sixth place. Hopefully this undefeated streak theme will actually go somewhere and build up to something to give Swagger a decent role in the coming future. (5/10 points)

7th Place: Dolph Ziggler

A win on Smackdown leads to a nice four points for the Platinum Playboy. Hopefully he is looking at an IC title win in the immediate future. He certainly deserves it! (4/10 points)

8th Place: Paul Burchill

The Ripper gets into the chart through sheer force of will as this whole pointless Hurricane storyline plays out. While I don’t mind Burchill as a wrestler he seems like he could be more brutal in the ring as it suits his style. Perhaps after this he could join up with Regal’s stable and they could truly rule the Land of Extreme. (3/10 points)

9th Place: Vance Archer

This is what I would describe as a great debut. Simple and dominant. As soon as this guy’s music hit you could tell he is supposed to be a Chris Benoit/Steve Blackman type, a no-nonsense wrestler who just destroys opponents, and that’s what he did. Sold his character perfectly. (2/10 points)

10th Place: Drew McIntyre

This guy really doesn’t like parties. As the weeks go on and the company push lessens I find myself able to appreciate McIntyre more simply as a wrestler and not a corporate pick being shoved down my throat. I’m still not sold just yet, but we will see. (1/10 points)

Overall top ten:

* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 231/270

*2nd Place – Randy Orton: 177/270

*3rd Place – C.M. Punk: 149/270

*4th Place – The Miz: 116/270

*5th Place – Dolph Ziggler: 109/270

*6th Place – Jack Swagger: 85/270

*7th Place – Edge: 69/270

*8th Place – The Big Show: 68/270

*9th Place – Cody Rhodes: 58/270

*10th Place – Ted DiBiase: 56/270

Weekly Filler:

The Face-Off: Ozzy and Sharron Osborne – Really?! Evan Brawn and Kobi Kingston?

Terrible. I can’t believe just how annoying Sharron Osborne is. Just the constant repeating of the word ‘Really?’ after The Miz said it twice. She clearly hasn’t matured beyond the level of the annoying child on the playground that just repeats everything people say and thinks they are really clever. I grew out of that stage, why can’t she?

Face the Facts: Ziggler Tag

Not really a face the facts but I didn’t see anything too impressive from the face camp this week so I’m going to dedicate this time to vindicate one Mr. Dolph Ziggler. On Smackdown this week he clearly didn’t tag David Hart Smith’s foot when he came in. This looked like Ziggler wasn’t paying attention and messed up. However he clearly tagged Smith on camera before and the ref just didn’t see it, causing Ziggler to have to jump after an already removed Smith when he realised the ref hadn’t acknowledged the legitimate tag.

On the Rise: Shaemus & Vance Archer

A great debut and a good second chance. I don’t know who the WWE roped in to help them get over their new talent but they clearly know what they are doing. Or else the people responsible for Shamus’ flat reception last week learnt from their mistakes. Hopefully this is the start of something big for both parties.

Flat-Footed: Chris Masters

After barely being on TV for weeks the first thing he gets to do is have Ozzy Osbourne say he should be wearing a bra. What a great comeback. Especially when he was hired around the time that Mr. Kennedy was let go. Fair trade off, well done WWE…sarcasm, I like it.

Crossing the Line: The Guru, Sanjay Dunn

Now this guy was released awhile ago but I can’t believe the WWE hasn’t scooped him up. His high-flying moves and agility makes Mysterio look like a punk. He could run rings around the cruiserweight division all day and yet he’s not a part of either of the two biggest companies going. Sometimes the world of wrestling just defies logic. Maybe he’s not the most likely guy to win the world title, but I really don’t think that should stop the WWE from hiring good talent like this guy. I firmly believe that every guy in the company should be aiming for the title, but that shouldn’t stop the company from hiring someone and knowing they will stay in mid-card but put on some great matches. Imagine The Guru vs. Kingston, Bourne or Morrison. All three matches would be amazing.

That’s it for this week. Sorry for the lateness of the report but finally my Masters work caught up with me and I simply didn’t have time to finish the report until now. Surprisingly they don’t normally give you that much work for the amount of money you pay so the report should be back on schedule next week. Strange to not see either Orton or Punk on the chart this week, perhaps this is what the WWE means by pushing new talent, play down the guys who are actually getting good and finding their place in the WWE. Ah well, this is James Wright signing off.
