The Heel Report – Week 26

As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.

This week’s top ten:

1st Place: Chris Jericho

Another week on top for Y2J, and why not. He did win the Smackdown vs Raw Bragging Rights match and qualified for the triple threat match for the World Heavyweight title at Survivor Series. Others may have done more memorable manoeuvres this week but in terms of his career, Jericho is on the Rise. (10/10 points)

2nd Place: Randy Orton

A terrible week for Orton, but not on points strangely enough. Multiple appearances and main events make up for the loss of the Legend Killers title and snazzy new ride. It’s a shame Orton didn’t manage to knock Cena off of Raw, but really as Smackdown is supposed to be the real wrestling show I suppose there really was no place for the chump anyway. (9/10 points)

3rd Place: C.M. Punk

Being pushed to the side along with the Undertaker to make way for a Batista turn at Bragging Rights doesn’t stop Punk from picking up a respectable eight points on the chart. He ensured this by pulling the classic heel move of beating up on a helpless referee, there was even the custom “fight back” moment from the ref. The only question is where will Punk go from here? (8/10 points)

4th Place: Batista

A new addition to the chart this week, and what an addition it is! The Animal has finally turned and you really can see that already the hype was worth it. Batista has taken what he learnt being a face for these past few years in terms of making promos and put it to great use. His delivery was spot on and his inner anger was actually convincing. I’m looking forward to the future of Smackdown. (7/10 points)

5th Place: Cody Rhodes

Master Rhodes comes in fifth as he manages to make multiple appearances both at Bragging Rights and on Raw. It will be interesting to see if Legacy could start becoming a force to help raise the upcoming talent on Raw like they seem to be doing with Koffie Kingston right now. (6/10 points)

6th Place: Jack Swagger

The All-American American makes a decent impact on the charts after being somewhat stagnant for awhile on the heel front. It seems like Swagger needs something else rather than just being cocky to get him noticed in the heel world. He has all the skill and talent to succeed in the business, but in some ways that seems to be hindering him at the moment since he is expected to win and so it seems like no big deal. Maybe he needs just that one big feud to raise his game, but who with? (5/10 points)

7th Place: The Big Show

Despite his betrayal of Team Raw at Bragging Rights the Big Slow only makes it to seventh place on the chart after having his arse handed to him on Raw by the shows top faces. Still he got a title match at Survivor Series out of it so really things are still looking up for the giant. (4/10 points)

8th Place: The Miz

A big leap for the Miz at Bragging Rights as he is able to best his former tag team partner without too much underhanded action. I’m surprised the WWE creative are so behind the former reality star, but then again he seems to be living up to his end of the bargain by being an arrogant jerk. (3/10 points)

9th Place: Dolph Ziggler

A count out victory over Morrison means that Ziggler might be back in the IC title picture, which is good after the Platinum Playboy was left off of the Bragging Rights card due to poor booking by the WWE’s creative team. Hopefully this next opportunity will actually garner a title win, since Ziggler clearly deserves it, as he himself says over and over again. (2/10 points)

10th Place: Ted DiBiase

The final place on the chart and it goes to the final member of Legacy. I am still confused by what the WWE’s plans are for DiBiase since it only makes sense that he would be being built up as a face for his future movie release. But if this is the case then they are leaving it a bit late to lay the groundwork for this turn. Perhaps they have a great plan brewing, or perhaps they are just being as sloppy as usual. (1/10 points)

Overall top ten:

* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 221/260

*2nd Place – Randy Orton: 177/260

*3rd Place – C.M. Punk: 149/260

*4th Place – The Miz: 109/260

*5th Place – Dolph Ziggler: 105/260

*6th Place – Jack Swagger: 80/260

*7th Place – Edge: 69/260

*8th Place – The Big Show: 62/260

*9th Place – Cody Rhodes: 58/260

*10th Place – Ted DiBiase: 56/260

Weekly Filler:

The Face-Off: Cole and King

I know I’ve said this time and time again, but I’m a stubborn man and these two are still just as bad as ever. You could forgive them for getting sloppy or losing interest after all these years but now they seem to be just taking the piss. So many errors and dodgy comments, it seems like Adamly was contagious. Simply terrible, they need to be replaced, but by who? Black Snow?

Face the Facts: Koffie Kingston – Stepping up, carrying on after slipping.

This is what we call stepping up. To be honest I still think the angle would have worked if Koffie had kept his Jamaican persona since it could have worked off a whole hot and cold idea where he is prone to just snapping in his ‘controlled frenzy’. Overall though it was a good performance and I reckon Kingston is about ready to step up to main event level, maybe get some darker wrestling gear now though to go along with the persona change. Added props go to Koffie after carrying on and not completely toppling over after stepping into a car windshield and almost losing his footing.

On the Rise: The Miz

Not only did the Miz win at Bragging Rights but on Raw this week Evan Bourne’s beating him by count out was considered an upset. Just stop to think about that. When did beating the Miz by count out become a lucky escape for anybody? The Miz has come a long way since his feud with Cena and seems to be being taken seriously as a competitor. I for one am pleased for the Chick Magnet.

Flat-Footed: Sheamus on Raw

I couldn’t believe this. I really liked Sheamus on ECW and I’ve said before that he has a really bright future ahead of him. That was until WWE creative got involved of course and moved him up to Raw before having any really significant feuds or storylines. Then they decide that to “make an impact” on his first night on Raw they are going to first; only advertise his appearance on the night so that no one who doesn’t watch ECW will know who he is. And second they are going to put him up against Jamie Noble, who hasn’t appeared on Raw for ages himself and is one of the biggest Jobbers ever. When will the WWE learn that this type of thing does not make an impact? Have him face someone of some importance, or better yet have him come out and announce that Noble isn’t worthy of his time and then have him walk out. Worst comes to worst give him three jobbers and have him batter them all easily. The Celtic Warrior has the size and the muscle mass to pull that off convincingly so why didn’t the WWE have him do this? Seems like sabotage to me. Also just a general point but why are so few of the young talent being sent to Smackdown. Sheamus on Team Smackdown would have made so much more sense.

Crossing the Line: Hulk Hogan coming to TNA

This is a huge deal and everyone knows it. Sure Hogan is past it and his very presence there could destroy TNA but the fact is that with Hogan on the show how can someone like Vince McMahon not take them seriously as competition. Hogan is a self-marketing genius and if things go well in TNA marketing them will help market him and visa versa and the whole thing could take off in a big way.

We’ll all just have to wait and see I guess, as long as he doesn’t disband the X Division and fire Kurt Angle then I’m pretty much happy.

Well that’s all for this week, this is James Wright signing off.
