The Heel Report – Week 25
As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.
This week’s top ten:
1st Place: Chris Jericho
Is it any wonder that the “honest man” Chris Jericho is in the top spot this week after wrestling on all three brands. Y2J is apparently raising his game for Bragging Rights and squared off against a host of the WWE’s top faces of today…and he was soundly whooped by all of them. (10/10 points)
2nd Place: C.M. Punk
Proving that lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice, Punk was not able to defeat the Undertaker in their joke of a submission match. I really wish we could see Punk vs. Taker where Taker is the heel because until then it will always just be Punk being near dominated unless he uses underhanded tactics and we will never get a true picture of these two great strikers squaring off together. (9/10 point)
3rd Place: Randy Orton
A great piece of heel work and face tease this week from Legacy. Also with no real face rivalry to push Orton finally does not find himself on the receiving end of an FU or a Pedigree and is able to sliver his way into third position. (8/10 points)
4th Place: Vickie Guerrero
Apparently all you have to do to get to fourth place on the chart is grab hold of a microphone and say ‘Excuse me!’ a couple of times because Vicky Guerrero is back and more rancid than ever. Now I’m a fan of her work but this whole “Cougar” thing that Cole and King seem to be going on about just seems a little distasteful to me, especially if the WWE are trying to market to kids. (7/10 points)
5th Place: Ezekiel Jackson
Proving that you don’t have to win to dominate, Ezekiel Jackson storms into fifth place and takes a handsome six points for his trouble. I was actually very impressed with the amount of heat he got from his entrance this week in comparison to Koslov. Things seem to be on the up. (6/10 points)
6th Place: Drew McIntyre
He may be out of the Bragging Rights PPV and Team Smackdown, but McIntyre made it into the chart, and in the end I think we all know which is more important. I still can’t say why the WWE chose to pull the original team, maybe it was due to how bad they were, who can tell. (5/10 points)
7th Place: Chavo Gurerro
Cheeky Chavo manages to sneak his way into the chart through sheer persistence and appearance. Sometimes I think about bumping superstars just because I do not agree with the points system giving them a spot. But then if I did that how would the chart be fair? (4/10 points)
8th Place: Eric Escobar
Another guy who if I had my way would never touch this chart. I still haven’t seen anything from him that warrants any attention, at least he is out of the Bragging Rights match and we won’t have to see his bland and boring move set or appearance. Still now that I think about it, in hindsight maybe he did belong in that match, throw away superstar for a throw away event, hmm. (3/10 points)
9th Place: Dolph Ziggler
The one member of Team Smackdown that I actually feel bad for in the switch. Ziggler deserves to be a part of Bragging Rights and hopefully the WWE have found a way to get him in there. Still he made it into the chart and grabbed a couple of points for his trouble. (2/10 points)
10th Place: Cody Rhodes
Some nice mouth work gets master Rhodes into the last spot on the chart. Will his words come to fruition in the match? If they do it would be a huge push for him and would be reminiscent of Orton’s many Survivor Series wins earlier in his career. (1/10 points)
Overall top ten:
* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 211/250
*2nd Place – Randy Orton: 168/250
*3rd Place – C.M. Punk: 141/250
*4th Place – The Miz: 106/250
*5th Place – Dolph Ziggler: 103/250
*6th Place – Jack Swagger: 75/250
*7th Place – Edge: 69/250
*8th Place – The Big Show: 58/250
*9th Place – Ted DiBiase: 55/250
*10th Place – William Regal: 52/250
Weekly Filler:
The Face-Off: Matt Hardy Showboating
Actually not a bad week for the face side of the WWE so by default this week I have chosen Matt Hardy’s actions on Smackdown. Perhaps many of you didn’t see Hardy trying to milk R-Truth’s entrance but it just looked desperate. Perhaps they had worked something out together, but it didn’t look like it.
Face the Facts: Yoshi Tatsu making no.1 contender
An interesting choice by the WWE. I’m still not convinced that Yoshi could pull off being the ECW champion, but the crowd certainly seem to think so judging by the huge pop he gets whenever he enters an arena. So I suppose that is justification enough for him to get his shot. Now if only he would get a flashier finish than just a straight kick.
On the Rise: Orton vs Cena video package
One good thing that came out of the WWE this week is the video package leading up to Orton and Cena’s match at Bragging Rights. I’ve had the feeling for a few years now that the quality of video packages in the WWE had gone down and no longer made me excited for a match. This one actually does a pretty good job of building up anticipation as it spans the whole of their rivalry and makes it look like something epic, even if many people don’t think it actually is. I remember back in 2003 when a video package for a Test vs. Scott Steiner match made it look good because it was just the right music, shots and audio clips to build excitement. I really do think that these recap packages are important to rivalries and the shows in general and the WWE have been letting them slip recently. Hopefully this is the start of a new trend.
Flat-Footed: Team Smackdown
Well unless the WWE creative has pulled some kind of switch again at Bragging Rights, and in which case shut my mouth, I believe we know who was right about how crappy the original line up for Team Smackdown was. So bad in fact that they decided to switch out near the entire team only a couple of days before the event. The only problem is that I’m not sure exactly how much better this team is than the last…scratch that, I just remembered about Escobar. Hopefully Ziggler will attack Hardy or Finlay before the match and take their place since he really was the only member of the original team, apart from the captains of course, that really could have put on a decent showing at the PPV.
Crossing the Line: Bound for Glory
A decent showing from TNA. With the exception of Michaels vs. Undertaker, I think that the card at BfG was actually better than the one at WM 25. That may be a bold thing to say but I really do believe it. Of course to a non-TNA watcher the card won’t mean too much, but in terms of storylines and rivalries it really did make sense. Just compare the matches for yourself, pretty good for a company that the WWE don’t even want to acknowledge as competition.
Not a great difference in the overall chart this week. Only that Punk continues to catch up with Orton despite being a face for the first few weeks of the chart. It’s clear that if Punk had been a heel from the start that he would be nearing Chris Jericho’s level right now. We’re twenty five weeks in and despite the site going down and my laptop breaking for a couple of days the report is still going strong. I’m hoping to keep it going for as long as possible, so all that’s left now is to wonder what shape the WWE and its heels will be in at the 50 week mark. This is James Wright signing off.

gotta love Jericho…the guy’s the best thing in WWE right now. He’s even bringing up the Big Sh!t. Now that’s talent!!!!
Bound for Glory 5 was 100 times better than WrestleMania 25 just look at the match quality if you don’t believe me
TNA RULES!!!
