Smackdown Rating, Update On Flair Inducting Austin, WWE Reality Show
- Last Friday’s WWE Smackdown on MyNetworkTV drew a 2.2 broadcast rating, which is about as high as they seem to be able to get on the new network. So in context, this is a great number and will probably be touted again by the network.
- Despite accepting the invitation, the latest word is that Vince McMahon has blocked Ric Flair from inducting Steve Austin in to the Hall of Fame and instead Vince will be taking his place, to play off the whole Austin vs McMahon history.
As noted, there was heat on the whole situation because Flair is no longer a “WWE guy” and Vince doesn’t want Flair to continue to get exposure from WWE, which in turn will result in better Indy bookings for the legend. He will however attend the ceremony.
- WWE are considering producing a WWE reality type show, where profit will be made from paid text message voting/elimination.
One idea is to tweak the old Tough Enough concept. The other idea is to document wrestler’s backstage, during their workouts and on the road, whilst keeping it kayfabe.
WWE sees reality TV as a big pie to take a piece from, and with The Wrestler movie popularity, there is definitely something to make money from.
Vince is said to be bitter that Tough Enough doesn’t get much praise, despite being one of the early reality shows, before the likes of The Ultimate Fighter. That being said, Vince and Triple H are not actually fond of the original concept, feeling that it exposes the business too much.

Vince worring about exposing the business lol. Isn’t he the one who spilled the beans about it being entertainment. Oh I remember that was a move to stop paying fees to state governments by saying it is not a sporting event.
