Shane Quits WWE, Maria and Goldberg On Celeb Apprentice, Lawler Loses

- Thanks to Jarred Bright:
Shane McMahon has announced his WWE departure,
It is with great sadness that I announce my resignation from the WWE, effective January 1, 2010.

I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my father for the incredible education working with him has provided and for giving me the opportunity to play a role in building WWE into the global phenomenon that it is today. I am extremely proud to have been the 4th generation in this business, and I am grateful for everyday I was able to work along side not only my own, but the entire WWE family.

Thank you to all of the WWE Superstars both past and present for your passion, pride and dedication. You are truly the engine of the organization and it has been a pleasure to work with, learn from and get to know all of you. Thank you for the privilege of sharing the stage with you and for allowing me to become but a momentary member of your elite brotherhood. I have so much appreciation for the many sacrifices you endure, both physically and personally, to make this business the success that it is. The respect I have for each of you is immeasurable.

Finally, there are no words to express my gratitude to WWE fans the world over for supporting this company through good times and bad and for your unbridled passion that fuels the Superstars’ performances. I am profoundly grateful to have been able to entertain you both in front of the camera and from behind the scenes. You are the greatest fans in the world.

I will always love this business and will remain a fan forever.

- WWE Diva Maria and former wrestling star Goldberg have began filming for the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice. They are joined by Cyndi Laurper, VH1 star Bret Michaels, Sharon Osbourne, former Governor Rod Blagojevich, baseball’s Darryl Strawberry, singer/actor Holly Robinson Peete, and stand-up comedian Sinbad.

- Jerry Lawler came in with only 4 percent of the votes in the Memphis mayoral elections. He finished 5th place. “I guess we got lulled into that false sense of reality. We thought we were going to do a lot better than this.”

  1. Is the WWE getting ready for an ownership change?

There has been a lot to suggest that the last few years. A lot of the old timers and regulars are talking about retiring or going into something else and McMahon has been blowing himself up and announced his own retirement for a while. Linda McMahon has her political agenda now. Lawler tried to walk away, unsuccessfully. Lillian is going. DX is talking about retiring. among many other things.

I can’t see McMahon giving up his baby and cash cow but there have been things to indicate it lately and it makes me wonder.

  2. I can see a hall of fame induction; maybe among previous generations of McMahon’s in a coming WrestleMania.
Maybe a family edition for Fatu’s, Guerrero’s, etc when vince leaves or passes.

  3. Whatever it was that encouraged his decision, it must have been something significant for Shane to want to depart from a company he would always have security in.

I know he wont, but it’d be funny to see the general reaction if he turned up at TNA with a prominent backstage role.

    Fun times ahead…

  4. Wow! I think Shane O’Mac was and is awesome. I thought he was going to take over WCW and it would have rocked. Power I thought the same thing about TNA getting with Shane. I hope is isn’t something he has done to cause him to leave the company. Best wishes. Just one persons opinion.

  5. @ Power’s comment:

I was thinking the same thing also when I heard of Shane’s “retirement”.

  6. What is Shane supposed to do? Vince won’t leave EVER and if he did, then Steph runs it with her doushbag husband. I wouldn’t want my sister to be my boss. Good for Shane if he made this decision. I just have a feeling he was run out.

  7. shane will return to wwe at some point. he still owns stock in the company. he likely wants to puruse business opportunities outside pro wrestling.

he would never waste time with tna. he loves his family too much and would never support a rival promotion.

  8. As expected it was Triple H that would carry the WWE when Vince steps down and I think Shane’s moving aside is just another step in getting the WWE for Triple H and Stephanie to take over.

  9. Isn’t Shane a HUGE fan of MMA?

  10. Maybe Shane will buy TNA for real inlike the WCW purchase – lol

  11. Yeah, I could see him maybe creating a WWE branch of MMA. They had the chance to invest in UFC at one point.

  12. While the overly-dramatic mark in me might choose to believe it has something to do with a rivalry with Steph and The Nose – and their inevitable future on top, I think its probably more to do with MMA as several others have said. Maybe Shane forsees MMA has a solid future ahead and despite Vince not getting behind the idea, he wants to run with it while its still a fresh concept in many countries and could be very successful.

I dont believe he will return anytime soon though because their is no subtle mention in his or Vinces statements. No ‘the door is always open’ or anything like that. The wording in Vinces statement especially had me thinking it was more of a negative than a positive. I also think Shane would have promo’ed his place in any company he was about to work for or start up, so I dont think there is anything solid set up for him. Who knows? Speculation is a bitch…

…But lets never rule out TNA – In my storyline driven world, Id hope that Vince was about to announce Steph as taking over from 2010. Feeling betrayed that she is suddenly Queen Bee nad ruler of all, Shane will soon leave the company and join TNA as big jab back at her and the family, for maybe not letting them at least co-own the entire WWE ‘Universe’.

The mark in me is happy again.
