ROH In Financial Difficulty, The Rock Speaks, Angle Update, More JR
Distant third promotion Ring of Honor is experiencing some financial difficulty not too unlike the original ECW, in the sense that checks are beginning to bounce.
The first sign of a problem came when Cary Silkin removed long time internet darling booker Gabe Sapolsky in order to refresh the product for a wider audience. Unfortunately DVD sales have seen a drop since the change (although they were dropping before) and the PPVs and HDNet TV show have done next to nothing to help the company.
Although the depth of the financial trouble is not yet known, ROH will need to find either a new way to monetize their current product or a new avenue to promote it. The only other option would be to downsize and do low budget shows for their core audience.
In a possible related note WWE is said to be interested in several of the top talents to train and bring up to ECW.
- Former WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson discussed several topics with the Sun UK, noting that it is around 10 years since he started his acting career!
“Ten years ago I knew that I wanted to be a good actor as I wound down my wrestling career.
“I hoped to find good material that would work and be entertaining. There is a great amount of acting in wrestling and wrestling is a great form of entertainment. For me that training ground was really invaluable because I did not go to school for acting. I went to school for football and studied criminology. I knew it was going to take time and 10 years went by pretty quickly.”
Rock’s latest movie Race To Witch Mountain is available on Disney DVD and Blu-ray from August 24.
- Kurt Angle shed more light on his side of the arrest story when he was interviewed by a local paper in Pittsburgh. Angle says that 14 minutes after leaving his house he was pulled over by police for violating Trenesha Biggers ‘ order of protection, which was only taken out a few minutes before at his house.
“I left. I didn’t want to be in any trouble. I hurried up and called my manager and the owner of my company, TNA. I called my attorney. They said don’t go back to my house. Within 14 minutes, a police officer pulled me over and said I violated my PFA. I said there’s no way I violated my PFA because I just left my house.”
“I don’t like confrontation, so I kind of back away from it. This is really hard for me. I spent nine hours in jail and it was the lowest point of my life.”
- Jim Ross is back with another JRSBARBQ.com blog. Here are the wrestling highlights:
On the Harts:
“The Hart Dynasty performs for the 2nd week in a row in the final segments of Smackdown. That’s prime real estate and it’s good to see some young competitors getting the opportunity to carry the ball.”
On the Divas:
“Could a women’s bout headline a wrestling PPV? Interesting question. In today’s marketplace and as the females are currently positioned my answer would reluctantly be no. However, there is no reason that two, highly skilled, in ring technicians who the fans have made the vital, vested interest in AND who have a strong, clearly defined personal issue can’t contribute MUCH more than they currently do.”
On the Business:
“The wrestling business doesn’t need to be reinvented. Personal issues between talented and fundamentally sound individuals whether it be men or women still will put an ass every 18 inches and enhance TV ratings.”
[Amen, then maybe you can give a hint to creative].
On Regal’s Stable:
“The new faction that William Regal has “assembled” on ECW interests me. Why? Because it’s new. I realize that everything “new” can’t be great or even good but at least it’s different…”

Jim Ross ( good ole JR ). Are you hearing the words coming out of your mouth? WWE contributes to unemployment lines by trying to put down “any” wrestling promotions. They are looking at bringing some talent from ROH to ECW….Why? To speed up ROH’s demise. I thought Vinnie Mac could spit out characters out of his rear-end, as he used to say. Where are the good wrestlers? WCW,AWA,WCCW, and on and on. These wrestlers were already over with the fans. He just added smoke, lights, and no territory’s. You could spit fire out of your *** and your product, with you in charge, are perverts. Just one persons opinion.
Rock MAY Host Raw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why the hell would Vince McMahon want to put Ring of Honour out of buisness? They are in no way competition from a buisness standpoint. It just so happens that CM Punk was from Ring of Honor and maybe they realise its a good place to get talent from.
“The wrestling business doesn’t need to be reinvented.

? they NEED to go back to basics and learn how to be better actors and hopefully the companies will both learn how to find decent writers…
in my opinion the business has gone downhill since the last 20 yrs…
I think the samething about wcw, awa, others the fans loves old school superstars i hope that the rock do make a comeback and some oldschool from the wcw days for as actors it would best to stay in the wrestling ring then go from there and add more writers, more titles plus without oldschool like wcw, awa, nwa it want be no new wwe superstars of today we need more higher flyers, more womens titles wwe needs our help to prove it self for as john cena he needs to learn how to wrestle more like bret heart maybe add some wcw in the mix with some former tna stars.
