Poll Results: Was Mickey Rourke’s Appearance At Wrestlemania Worth It?

Our recent poll asked “Was Mickey Rourke’s Appearance At Wrestlemania Worth It?”

On paper it seemed like an acceptable celebrity tie in, but in execution the ball was dropped. Due to Mickey Rourke’s “handlers” they completely ruined the initial build by coddling him until the Oscars were over, and then due to other film work and insurance issues he couldn’t legally do a match. In fact WWE never even confirmed his appearance until a week before the event in a press release.

There are three questions you must ask. A) Does it create PPV Buys, B) Does it harm the wrestler, and C) Was it entertaining.

Realistically I doubt anybody bought the PPV to see Mikey Rourke due to the poor build. Jericho didn’t lose any heat because he won the initial match, but it certainly didn’t give him any credibility either. Was it entertaining? I think it was pretty cool in isolation, but I think he could have done a little more than one weak punch.

The fact is WWE will always use celebs at Wrestlemania, and they always have their negatives. If they’d gone all out from the start and worked a match this would have been fine, but otherwise I’d give it a thumbs down.

Here’s what you all thought, and it generally tells the same story:

40% said “No, his punch looked weak, it was a waste of time.”

37% said “It wasn’t bad, but it could have been built a lot better.”

14% said “Yes, it was a cool celebrity Wrestlemania moment.”

9% said “No, he should of had a proper match.”

  1. Yes he should of had a match.Show us what he’s got. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN CENA !!

  2. He could have least dropped an elbow or something. It is a wrestling match, not a boxing match.
