One of the most answered polls in WrestlingTruth history surrounds this very question. “How Long Will WWE Show Faith In CM Punk As Champion?”
Just by watching the show WWE has shown more faith than many of us first thought. I for one, at least at the beginning expected Punk to drop the belt in a matter of weeks, yet after Summerslam he still holds the title.
The story WWE are trying to tell, is that Punk is trying to work himself up the ranks and prove that he is not just a “transitional champ” although I think if they continue this without giving him a true clean main event (at a PPV) win against either Batista, John Cena or somebody like HBK then when he does lose the belt he’s still going to come off as one of the weakest champions to date. Facing an out of shape, former WWE announcer on the midcard of a PPV doesn’t make you the main event guy, title or no title.
Here’s how the numbers broke down:
- 38% of you think “He’ll probably only be champ for a few months.” Which looks like the way they are heading, although that doesn’t rule out pushes in the future.
- 32% of you thought he’d “lose it in a matter of weeks.”
- 18% of you thought “He’d keep the title but lose a lot like Mysterio.”
and
- 13% of you had wishful thinking and hope he’ll be a long term champion.
