News On Psycho Sid’s Return, Lexington Gets Smackdown, Latest JR

- The reported tryout match that Sid Vicious was given by the WWE, for whatever reason did not take place, or is being put off. Sid has be claiming for months that he is returning to the WWE and management felt obliged to at least give him a dark match to see if he still has it. Along with this match though comes a Wellness test, which may be the reason why it never took place. WWE are at least open to giving him an opportunity but want to make sure he’s clean and can still work a believable match.

Sid has been worked the odd Indy show since his return, including NWA and Memphis.

- WTVQ-TV in Lexington announced Friday that it has reached an agreement to broadcast the popular pro wrestling show and the rest of the MyNetworkTV lineup. WWE Smackdown will air at 8 p.m. Friday nights on WTVQ’s second digital channel, 36-2, which currently broadcasts only weather coverage. It is channel 436 on Insight cable system.

Several areas still do not get Smackdown now that it has changed networks.

- Jim Ross is back with more JRSBARBQ.com blog thoughts. Here are the wrestling highlights:

On WWE Music:
“The Kansas State University marketing people made great use of a great deal of WWE oriented music last Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas prior to the OU game in pre game warm ups. This included John Cena’s first rap song, the Raw open and I think I heard the Smackdown open. Nonetheless the fans seemed to have enjoyed it and the players did as well while they were stretching and warming up.”

On Weight Issues:
“I still like the idea of all wrestlers being weighed on a semi regular basis to put the proper checks in balances in place to help insure good health along with all the other tests that are done for the talent these days. Some guys will eat themselves out of a job if they are not monitored.”

Criticizing Raw:
“Will the WWE announcers break their arms patting themselves on the back when it comes to all the well earned accolades of Monday Night Raw? Watching at home or from a hotel room it gets a little repetitive to hear all the self congratulations that used to irk my late mentor, Gorilla Monsoon. Raw is a phenomenon without question but “I get it.” Tell me once an hour and I will be more likely to retain it positively than if I feel as if I am being force fed.”

On Jimmy Yang:
“Jimmy Yang is grossly underrated and with such a lack of talent depth why Yang isn’t being utilized more prominently is a question I won’t venture to ask.”
[Wellness violation, he's not big and muscular, he's not of white race...]

On Zeke:
“For Big Zeke to improve and get to the next level both financially and talent wise, he needs to start wrestling more and managing or what ever it is he does less. Nice look, solid athleticism, but the only way a young guy gets better is to get into the ring and get after it. We all know Kendrick is really good, just small, which can work to Brian’s advantage with Zeke in the picture.”

On Khali:
“I have no idea where the seemingly nicer Great Khali is going but I am thankful that he is heterosexual. Ranjin’s sideburns are outrageous and are just a little width away from the lamb chop level, Honky Tonk Man level. Could these two natives of India, not HTM, be preparing to be the next comedy pairing in their native land? Stranger things have happened friends and neighbors.”

On Beyond the Mat:
“Yours truly made the mistake of watching “Beyond the Mat” late Friday night and watching it still pisses me off. I honestly feel as if I was duped during the production of this film which I was told specifically was only going to be an “art film” and released only in a few selected art theaters. No one ever mentioned a DVD release or the fact that the film was produced in 1999 and is still playing on cable. Bottom line, I spend many, many hours in helping facilitate WWE talents for the film not to mention helping provide unlimited access and got not as much as a thank you in the credits much less a pay day. The film goes to great lengths to sensationalize the negative aspect of the business, some deservedly so, and without question the production had its stellar moments. But a thanks and a check would have been nice to have received as I assure you that the film made someone some cash.”
