New Details Behind Smackdown’s MyNetworkTV Move In Relation To The Draft

One of the main reasons WWE has moved several big names over to Smackdown, including Triple H and Jim Ross is in preparation for Smackdown’s departure from the CW Network, to MyNetworkTV during the fall. It is a fact that MyNetwork is a weaker network than CW and WWE want to make sure they have a strong product so none of the fans get lost in the shuffle and ratings do well.

Interestingly MyNetworkTV is owned by FOX and although it hasn’t been discussed in any great detail, in the back of management’s minds they want to improve Smackdown in hope that it gets moved up to the main Fox network.

Another point to make is Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch (or at least his son now), who also owns Sky Sports in the UK, a series of channels that show Raw, Smackdown, ECW and several smaller recap shows - including the new legends show.

Despite having acceptable ratings CW feel that the wrestling fans only stick around to watch wrestling then leave the network and watch another channel. There is also widespread belief in the advertising industry that wrestling fans don’t have good incomes, so it is hard to pull in the advertising dollars either.

Ironically on the MyNetworkTV side, they are hoping that bringing wrestling to the network will help it grow.
