Mick Foley Officially Joins TNA Wrestling – full details

After weeks of speculation and rumors hardcore legend Mick Foley has officially agreed to a short term deal with TNA Wrestling, now that his WWE contract has expired. The Gillespie Agency, which also represents Ric Flair issued the following on behalf of Foley:

“I can confirm I have had discussions with TNA Wrestling and have come to a short-term agreement. I am very excited about the specifics of this agreement and the potential it holds.”

Despite this he will not be a TNA exclusive and is just testing the waters for a potential longer term deal down the line.

“This move frees me up to participate in more film, television and voice roles, autograph sessions, speaking engagements, volunteer work, and will allow me the time to start work on a third novel, a fourth wrestling memoir and a new children’s story. Over the next few weeks I will be working with my management team at Braverman/Bloom Co., Inc. in pursuing a couple of unique investment opportunities.” He is available for booking through Elaine Gillespie (elaine@GillespieTalent.com) or Nola Armstrong (nola@GillespieTalent.com).

The official TNA website features a graphic with a Smiley Face wrapped in barbed wire, reading “Have a Nice Day,” which is Foley’s catchphrase, as they tease his debut.

In light of this official move WWE has deleted Foley’s profile from the Alumni page, which they put up when his contract expired and they’ve posted the following statement:

“Three time WWE Champion Mick Foley allowed his contract with WWE to expire on August 31, 2008. WWE and Foley have mutually agreed to sever business ties at this time as the former SmackDown announcer pursues other opportunities.”

Although it has not been revealed if Foley will be an active wrestler, or strictly just a mouthpiece as part of a storyline, I did hear news that they were working on merchandising opportunities – so if it is short term they want to cash in quick.
