May 11, 2009, WWE Raw results, live from Columbus, Ohio.
The Hook:
Batista is looking to rip Randy Orton apart, but Vickie Guerrero has made a special no contact stipulation before the PPV. However after being called predictable, Vickie mixed things up. If the Animal can defeat Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes in a handicap match, he’ll be given Orton in the main event tonight, but if he loses he’ll have to face all three. Can he pull it off? And what implications will it have at Judgment Day?
Quick Results:
- Rhodes and DiBiase defeat Batista via DQ.
- Mickie James and Kelly Kelly defeat Maryse and Jillian.
- The Brian Kendrick defeats Carlito.
- The Miz vs John Cena ended in a no contest.
- Santina Marella defeated Beth Phoenix.
- MVP and Kofi Kingston defeat Matt Hardy and William Regal.
- Randy Orton defeated Batista by DQ.
Full Report:
- In an opening segment of arrogance Randy Orton disses the audience, saying they never fight back and they are cowards; that they pay to live their lives through him. He says he put an end to the McMahon Era.
- Recap video of taking out the McMahons and Triple H.
- Orton continues by claiming Batista will not win, so he should join them, offering him a spot in The Legacy, which would cement them as the most dominant force in WWE. Legacy claims they are bigger than The Horsemen, DX and Evolution. Batista declines and vows to destroy The Legacy.
Vickie Guerrero has made the classic stipulation (overdone and they know it), where Batista can’t touch the champ until Judgment Day. However at the thought of being “predictable,” by her rule, Vickie mixed things up, and made a new opening match for Raw: Batista vs Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. If Batista wins, he would face Orton in the main event, but if Rhodes & DiBiase wins he’d have to face the whole group in a handicap match.
- Rhodes and DiBiase defeat Batista via DQ:
Batista cannot contain himself and puts his match against Orton in jeopardy by getting himself disqualified. Rhodes fetched the chair, but Batista was the one seen swinging it. Batista must now face a 3 on 1 handicap match tonight.
- Mickie James and Kelly Kelly defeat Maryse and Jillian:
Divas champ Maryse tries to make up for her loss to Mickie last week, but after a typical short Divas match, Mickie hits the DDT for the win.
- Chavo is backstage, he praises Vickie then offers the idea of putting Cena in a match to prove if he is injured or not. They cal it an exhibition match.
- For some reason Cole and Lawler run down the Judgment Day card in the ring to the live audience. Maybe they figure they’ll get more buys that way.
- Legacy are trying to regroup backstage. Teddy has been destroyed backstage.
- Mr Kennedy return video.
- The Brian Kendrick defeats Carlito:
Kendrick was defeated by Unified Tag Champ Carlito on the previous week’s Raw, but got his revenge with the pinfall victory this week. A short match, but you can tell these two can pull something off if given more time.
After the match Kendrick says he’s looking for the right tag partner to face the Colons and to take the titles.
- Big Show comes out to watch Cena’s match. The rules are finally explained. The match continues until Vickie puts and end to it. No pin falls.
- The Miz vs John Cena ended in a no contest:
Miz gets on the mic before the bout and does another good promo. “This in a exhibition, it’s not 12 Rounds, people are actually going to see this!”
Just after hitting the Five Knuckle Shuffle on his opponent, Cena was stopped by the Raw GM who had decided that he was fully capable of competing on Sunday. The Miz capitalized on the situation, took out Cena and claimed the victory for himself.
- Backstage the Guerreros try to find out the true identity of Santina. Chavo goes to pull off Santina’s hair, but gets a slap. Instead at the Raw GM’s direction, Rosa leaned in to peck Santina on the cheek, which Santina could resist, going full blown. When questioned about her actions, Santina admitted that she’s a lesbian! Lawler and Cole continue to laugh like school boys.
- Cody is backstage looking for Batista but finds Hornswoggle. Batista then takes him out, evening his match tonight with Orton.
- Santina Marella defeated Beth Phoenix:
Santina upsets Beth with a quick roll-up for the win.
- Cena cuts a promo where he emphasizes that he’ll win at the PPV.
- After William Regal cost United States Champion MVP his match against Cody Rhodes last week, Montel invited Regal to be a guest on his “VIP Lounge”. Claiming that he had worked long and hard for his standing on Raw, Regal explained that he attacked MVP for the insolence he displayed in trying to “leapfrog” him in Raw’s hierarchy. The pair were soon interrupted by Matt Hardy. Hardy claimed that he also had been wronged in being forced to compete with a broken hand, and stated that he should be first in line to compete for MVP’s belt. Kofi Kingston then interrupted, and attacked Hardy in retaliation to getting hit with the cast last week. The commotion is turned in to a tag match.
- MVP and Kofi Kingston defeat Matt Hardy and William Regal:
The match ends when MVP hits the Playmaker on Regal.
- Randy Orton defeated Batista by DQ:
Orton tries to worm his way out of the match, but Batista has none of it. He attacks him with a chair and gets disqualified again, but this isn’t about winning. Just before Batista could take out Orton with the steps Rhodes and DiBiase make a salvage attempt.
Conclusion:
Fans are well and truly ready for the PPV main event, although you could argue we’ve seen too much interaction between Orton and Batista already. The match needs to be a bloody massacre to top it all off. If they even go for a wrist lock I’ll break the TV!
The Miz impressed for the third week in a row. If they keep at it I wouldn’t be surprised if the older men begin to cheer for Miz over Cena and they have a little audience split. It’s almost like the Jericho/Goldberg thing from WCW, where an undercurrent of fans got behind Y2J.
The Santina stuff is funny, but it’s one of those things where you might feel dirty if you mom walks in whilst watching it.
Matt Hardy once again impressed on the VIP lounge. He’s really reinvented himself since the heel turn and injury, freshening up his somewhat stale character.

oh yes the show was enjoyable , yeah you are right its hard to see santina segment and if my moms comes and see.
well not a big problem , other than this a good show and ready for PPV
Raw was average imo. smackdown is now the A show. Most of good talented stars are there. About this Legacy thing also. Im getting a little frustrated with it. First off, it needs another member. I think it can be much bigger and better with all the 2nd and 3rd generation stars wwe has, but they aren’t on it for reasons beyond me. 2nd, the beatdown at the end was dumb. This tells me two things: A). Dibiase and Rhodes essentially are nothing to Batista as he takes them out with one hit, that tells me that the group itself is weak, which is not what the fans, nor wwe wants. B). It is a given with the beating that Batista gave, that the only way Orton can win is if he cheats. I would really like wwe to do the right thing and have Orton win cleanly, but alas that won’t happen, because to wwe heels essentially, “can’t do anything without cheating” which is complete BS. Raw had its dull and ok moments. The only question that I really left with was, “who is going to be Brian Kendricks partner?”
Raw’s definitely becoming boring
Come on you guys!!
Smackdown is definitely better.
Rock on, Jeff Hardy
how many weeks in a row now have we seen handicap matches with 2 or 3 legacy members vs. hhh or batista… gayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy…. same crappy show, yet somehow amazingly there is alot of ppl who will defend the show and call it entertaining. thats what i call an easy crowd, they might even laugh at all my jokes they’re so easy
