The Hook:

After the opening match of Randy Orton versus Shane McMahon couldn’t contain itself, Vickie Guerrero alters the card and sets up a number of Legacy matchups. Ted DiBiase will face Batista, and Cody Rhodes will face MVP. The special stipulation is that if you win, you join the main event. Will it be a fair contest, or a three on one beatdown?

Quick Results:

Kofi Kingston defeats Matt Hardy

Mickie James defeats Maryse
Ted DiBiase defeats Batista via DQ
Carlito defeats The Brian Kendrick
Legacy destorys Shane McMahon (about time).

Full Report:

- The show kicks off from Buffalo, New York, with a long video package hyping the whole Legacy storyline so far and Shane McMahon’s run in last week. According to Cole over 16,000 fans are in the building

- Orton versus Shane is the first bout, which is kind of a giveaway that there’s more to come. Why would it be on first? I smell shenanigans!

- The match soon erupts to the outside and then Legacy, Batista and MVP make run ins. Vickie Guerrero gets a handle on things and says “since everybody wants to run in, then tonight you will all be in matches”. The stip is that if you win your match you’ll join your team in the main event. This has potential to go bad.

- Fact: 2 million females watch Raw.

- Kofi Kingston defeats Matt Hardy:
Matt Hardy draws anti-sympathetic heat, whining about how his hand is broken, He says he has made an official complaint for being forced to wrestle. It’s Cowboy Bob all over again!

Matt fights on with his so called injury, milking it every once in a while. Interestingly Kofi wins cleanly in only a few minutes with “the trouble in paradise”. However following the match Matt gets his heat back and takes out Kofi with the cast. It seems Lawler is showing signs of his old heel commentary, taking sides with Matt.

- Shot of Niagara falls….Snickers and Subway sponsor Raw.

- Santino tells Kelly Kelly backstage that his “sister” Santina won’t be here tonight because she was breathed on by Vickie Guerrero and got Swine Flu…because Vickie is a piglet! Chavo overhears, but Santino doesn’t mind ripping her with pig noises.

- Recap of John Cena getting thrown through the searchlight at Backlash by Big Show, resulting in Edge’s title win, and Cena’s return last week, causing big Show to get counted out in the number one contender’s match against Batista.

- Big Show pleads with Vickie to let Cena face him, but she says he cannot compete. Instead she makes the match for the Judgment Day PPV.

- The Bella Twins are gushing over MVP backstage and his appearance on The View. They both ask him to go out tonight. It’s alright for some ai!

MVP has become a star over the past 2 weeks, lets hope it continues.

- Cody Rhodes defeats MVP to join Orton in the main event:

Cody hits the ring.

MVP hits the ring whilst a video recaps his microphone confrontation with Orton last week.

William Regal is ringside scouting the US Champion.

Nothing special from this match, it was just a means to an end. After a few minutes Regal attacks MVP, causing a countout win for Cody Rhodes. We have our new US title feud folks, and the main event is now a handicap match for the time being.

- After the break, Jerry Lawler is in the ring calling a “sing off” between Jillian and Festus. Huh?! (Reid Flair lookalike in the crowd).

Jillian does her usual Brooke Hogan impersonation. Festus on the other hand, wearing no shirt but a bow tie looks on confused. They ring the bell and he erupts in to a rendition of “Tomorrow” to the crowd’s delight. He wins!

- The Miz interrupts and cuts another good heel promo on Cena, but is cut off by Cena on the Tron. Miz ignores it and rips Cena for still not coming out to face him. He rips Cena’s movie then says he “mailed it to The Rock, who used it for toilet paper”, oh my!

“You’re always saying you want some come get some, I want the whole damn thing” shouts Miz with intensity. He then proclaims its the Miz 2, Cena 0.

At the last minute an injured looking Cena shuffles out, looking like a robot with a bowel problem LOL. Before anything can happen Big Show comes down.

- Miz seems to have disappeared and Cena stairs down Show for a good 2 minutes. Show then beats on Cena’s injured mid-section, although Cena’s poor facials almost make it funny. It seems the story going in to Judgment Day will be “is Cena 100% to compete?”

Big Show finishes him off with a modified Cobra Clutch. The stage is definitely set for the PPV, and Show is getting most of the heat here so job accomplished.

- Lilian announces a special ring announcer. Jarred/Jerry/Jarrett? The Subway Guy! He goes on to introduce Mickie James and Maryse. It seems WWE is screaming for new advertising opportunities.

- Mickie James defeats Maryse:
The match goes to the outside in seconds, with Maryse ramming Mickie in to the barrier and doing some of her excellent Bitchy mannerisms. Maryse then applies a very cosy looking chinlock!

Eventually Mickie fights back to do her DDT for the win. It was a non title match.

- Buckcherry’s Rescue Me is the official theme for Judgment Day.

- Ted DiBiase defeats Batista:
Batista dominates early on, but DiBiase fights back with a nice dropkick and a neckbraker.

Batista conveniently loses via DQ with a foot choke after the ref counted 5, resulting in a 3 on 1 in the main event. Quite a contrived ending.

- Fact: WWE out performed most other sports websites in 2008.

- Chavo is backstage and talks Vickie in to preventing Batista and MVP from running in during the main event by stripping their US title and WWE title shot at Judgment Day respectively.

- Carlito defeats The Brian Kendrick:
Kendrick plays his character well early on. He catches Carlito in mid flight with a spin kick, but Carlito soon outs him away with the Backstabber. Very short filler match. The future isn’t bright for Kendrick.

- Smackdown Rebound.

- Recap of The View and MVP’s match with Dolph Ziggler.

- Batista apologizes to Shane backstage. One does protest to much. I smell a falling out after Judgment Day.

- Legacy Destroys Shane McMahon:
Surprisingly Shane gets some good offense (I still have a hard time buying him as a contender), and sets up his vintage table elbow drop, but Orton moves.

The show ends with Orton destroying Shane’s leg with the steel steps, but unfortunately totally missing it in a big time botch.

Batista decides to run down right at the end, but Legacy leg it. Orton claims “Batista your Judgment Day is coming!” to close the show.

Conclusion:

Basically a filler show used to set up Judgment Day and to finally get Legacy over Shane McMahon once and for all. We have Big Show versus Cena set for the PPV, a potential US title feud between William Regal and MVP, and The Miz seemingly carrying his own feud with Cena. Ultimately they may forget it, or drag it out for the long haul cementing Miz as a top contender. I hope it’s the latter because he’s definitely impressed over the last few weeks.

MVP is definitely somebody to watch. He’s come full circle since his losing streak and has proved he can at least talk trash with the best of them. Hopefully he has a solid US title run and moves up the ranks next year. The sooner the better though, because his heat is going to dwindle if he’s left in the midcard going through the motions.

  1. Yea I seen the two botch hits too, When he used the chair he hit the steel steps, when he used the steps, he hit the other set of steps, But Shane’s Acting was really good like if Orton actually hit his ankle along with the rent-a-medic.

  2. Raw was ok this week. The moment they announced that Shane vs Orton was first I knew it would be delayed till later. Especially when they started brawling. Good opener nonetheless.

Hardy vs Kingston was a good match, a lot better then Hardy’s last one. I really hope they push Hardy into the World title picture. He needs it.

Rhodes vs mvp was average. I wonder why Regal was out there. I hope they at least do something between him and mvp. Regal needs a good fued.

The miz segment was 100% gold. He said everything that had been on my mind for the past 3 years. Cena is selected by the wwe machine to have the kiddies cheer for someone and women scream for someone. BTW the Rock line was so true. I could tell most of the fans knew it to, because they werent booing Miz when he said that. WWE finally realizes what us real fans know, Cena is a G rated wrestler.

    Mickie vs Maryse, nothing good.

Kendrick vs Carlito was a ok match, Please wwe make a fued between the two. Carlito is stale, and Kendrick is underated.

Legacy vs Shane was a complete beatdown as expected. Legacy is reminding me more and more of evolution and Orton is carrying Raw. He needs a good long rong with the title.

ok Raw, nothing really bad about it, but I expect a good build to Judgement day

  3. How can Vince McMan the president of WWE not get revenge on Orton and Legacy. After all he could get every wrestler in WCW with a contract facing Orton and Legacy with the person who kicks all three in the head or takes them out of action the chance to wrestling anyone of their choice at any time they want.Call the action the Mscman Curse.

  4. I agree, the Miz has become a great speaker. I speaks the truth!

Legacy’s beatdown was nice to see. About time they finally win something. These guys seem to be finally perking, but unfortunatley WWE films have more priority then WWE wrestling these days and Ted will soon be jumping face to push his new movie. They could have something special with Legacy.

I am tired of these films taking away wrestlers from television. I mean, why cant WWE just stick with wrestling?? Their movies suck anyways, it’s a waste of time and money for them. ANd it really kills the storylines.

  5. Shane put by one heck of a fight none to less!! And don’t think the feud is over not just yet!! Because Orton will learn you can NEVER EVER beat a McMahon!!!
