May 01, 2009, WWE Smackdown Results
Smackdown Kicks off from Madiason Square Garden, New York City. They start with a promo video using the voice over artist who does the pay-per-views, announcing a fatal four way elimination match, Jeff Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kane. Winner is No.1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship at Judgment Day.
Pyro erupts at the World’s Most Famous Arena, and Chris Jericho (Smackdown’s newest draft pick) hits the ring, getting his usual heat. He grabs the mic and begins the usual promo, about how he’s the best wrestler in the world and everyone else is a hypocrite. He continues… stating he was the superstar of the year in 2008 and how it’s a travesty that he has to compete in a fatal four way match. New World Heavyweight Champ for the unrealistic and worthless 9th time, Edge hit the ring getting just as many boos as Jericho. Edge begins bysaying Jericho is a tormentor of senor citizens and that he is a former world champion in which Cena beat him for. Edge brags that he is the only one who has defeated Cena for the title. He continues to say that this is his yard. He gets big heat by saying the air Canada in Toronto is more famous than the Garden.
Jericho has little to say until CM Punk hits the ring with his briefcase in toe. He then shows Edge footage of him beating him for the World title on Raw last year. Jericho gets in Punk’s face and claims he is being disrespectful by ignoring him. Jericho walks out. Punk takes another dig at Edge saying they will face each other in the Main Event tonight. Edge says he is looking forward to a warm up match. Punk continues with a tease of cashing in the briefcase after the match.
JR and Todd talk draft picks… Rey Mysterio Candice Michelle and John Morrison…
John Morrison defeated Shelton Benjamin via pinfall.
Shelton Benjamin is a gold wrestler with bronze charisma. It’s a real shame that he hasn’t really had the right gimmick or push to find some solid ground to build himself a character. I really think his success lies within a rivalry with R-Truth. Morrison Hit the Moon light drive for the Pin.
Recap of the Sherry Sheppard/MVP Angle. MVP will have Sherry in his corner in his United States Championship Match against Dolph Ziggler.
Jericho is in Teddy longs Office. He argues that he should be given the title shot at Judgment day, instead of having to compete in a fatal four way. The Punjabi Playboy bumps into Jericho. Jericho thinks he’s showing him disrespect, but rajin singnh says he should get over himself.
Jeff Hardy last eliminates Rey Mystreio to become No.1 Contender at Judgment Day for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Top Match with a lot of back and forth action. Kane was eliminated first with a very weak pinfall from Jericho after Jeff hit Kane with the Swanton Bomb. Kane was irate and began throwing steel chairs in to the ring. Jericho hit Rey for a disqualification. Then there were two; Jeff and Rey, High flyer vs. High Flyer, very evenly matched wrestlers, both openly capable of countering each other’s moves. Jeff Hardy counter’s a spring board with a reverse roll up for the win. I wish they had more crowd pleasers like this. Best match in Months.
Smackdown’s Newest duo Cryme Time Hit the ring. In their home town New York City. They have a ‘Brooklyn Breakdown Dance off’ with Layla and Eve Torres. It’s Nice to see beautiful women dancing in the ring to pumping music and flashing lights. As Eve wins a Cat fight ensures with Layla, and with ‘Take it off chants”!
Sherri Shepard and MVP are Backstage. Sherri is dressed in one of Ric Flair’s robes! She invites MVP to the View taping on Monday morning before a Nightly Monday Night Raw. She seems to be really getting into the hype. It’s good to see WWE has some passionate Celebrity fans.
MVP defeated Dolph Ziggler to retain the US Championship
MVP hit Dolph with the playmaker for the pin. Sherri Got involved by getting up on the apron and slapping Dolph when he asked for a kiss.
Jericho Continues his verbal assault on Teddy Long for ill treatment in the match. He gets into a brawl with John Morrison. (Possible Feud, Face turn for Morrison?)
Very evenly matched match a lot of countering. Edge even using a sharp shooter on punk after a failed GTS. Punk finally hits Edge with the GTS for the win. After, Punk goes for the briefcase and tells the referee to announce a Money in the bank World title Match before the bell is tolled to begin the match, a returning Umaga hits Punk with a kick and a spining powerslam. Edge picks up the briefcase and proceeds to hit Punk with it until Jeff Hardy storms the ring and hits Edge with a twist of fate and a Swanton Bomb.
Judgment Day Match Update
WWE Championship Randy Orton (c) vs. Batista
World Heavyweight Championship Match Edge (c) vs. Jeff Hardy
All Round best shows I’ve seen in many weeks Crowd was really getting into it and strong and loud chants. I hope the helps pick up the falling rating as of late.

Quite a good Smackdown tonight! What I don’t get is the Jeff Hardy thing. So is all the buzz and concern about his possibly not signing a contract, or signing a limited contract, just hype to get nail-biting viewers to continue to tune in? Especially after he’s now #1 contender for the WWE Heavyweight title at Judgment Day?
Some venting, whether or not anyone gives a crap:
1. Yes, fans can get emotionally vested in superstars.
2. Yes, many fans read wrestling-related websites for daily updates, news, rumours, etc.
3. Yes, many fans can take a bit of fed information, unproven or not, and run rampant with it.
4. Yes, Jeff Hardy is currently quite a popular superstar.
5. Yes, Jeff’s skills are sufficient to gain titles.
6. No, I don’t believe Jeff will win the heavyweight title again, especially due alleged contract negotiations and that WWE management flat-out doesn’t trust him [due the 2-strikes on Wellness Policy], as proven by the fact that he never truly defended the title when he held it.
7. Yes, I believe he may win the title, for seconds, only to lose it to Punk’s cashing in of the briefcase.
8. Maybe, on some plain — eh, no, I don’t really want to go there.
9. Yes, for now I will continue watching and enjoying WWE.
10. No, I hate the marketing schmalz of manipulating fans/viewership purely for ratings and sales. WWE fans aren’t stupid and shouldn’t be treated as such, though I understand the odd line that WWe rides between revealing tidbits or storyline or not. Some fans ‘get it’ that the storylines are entertainement and others don’t, and there’s little that WWE can do about that.
REGARDLESS, what concerns me right now are two potential scenarios concerning Jeff Hardy.
1. He wins at Judgment Day and legitimately gets to defend the title, as he didn’t (except maybe once, lamely) before. Maybe, if it’s true about his wanting to seek other avenues of life, his appearances are relegated to select taped shows and PPVs.
2. He loses and appears at best a few times a year, and some lame/ridiculous explanation is offered by WWE.
3. He has the win in sight but Matt interferes, costing him the title (again). A Last Man Standing match is announced between the brothers (and maybe someone else), with Jeff losing and thus getting granted some time off to consider his life’s priorities.
Other than that, I got nuthin’, LOL.
Laugh a lot, enjoy life. Peace.
jeff and cm junk … please leave wwe
