March 27, 2009, WWE Smackdown Results
- CM Punks music Hits, all 7 other Money in the bank qualifiers are in the ring.
- 8 Man tag match
Kane, Finlay, Christian and Shelton Benjamin defeated CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, US Champ MVP and Mark Henry.
- Announced next week is a US Championship Rematch of Shelton Benjamin vs. US Champ MVP. (The last Smackdown before Wrestlemania 25.
- Kane Wins this one with a chokeslam, afterwards everyone brawls and Christian introduces a ladder under a hanging briefcase. Hornswoggle and Finlay push him off and he falls into the other competitors. Good match and an entertaining lead up to Wrestlemania.
- Big show defeated Jesse and Festus
Nice to see Jesse and Festus return to Smackdown, they haven’t been seen in a while. Festus got knocked out with a straight right from the Show and Jesse is chokeslamed.
- Hardy rivalry video airs beginning with the Royal Rumble betrayal. I’m really enjoying this brother rivalry with the real life events used in the feud.
- Matt Hardy appears with a dog similar to Jeff Hardy’s dog jack. Matt cuts a classic type promo on Jeff with jealousy burning the words coming out of his mouth.
- Chavo vs Rey
These two always had one of the greatest ‘Wrestling’ type rivalries with how they mimic each other styles similar to mysterio’s rival with chavo’s late uncle Eddie Guerrero. Rey wins with his version of the frogsplash. After the match JBL storms the ring a boots Rey in the head. I guess they left it to the last minute to reignite the short lived rivalry.
- Cena hit the ring with his usual pop from the crowd it does seem odd it never translates to Pay-Per View. Cena begins to ‘sell’ Wrestlemania. He interestingly says he will give everything and anything for the business. Which is what i believe makes Cena a great person but a great wrestler to. Forget 5 move Cena, he will do anything to put the business over and at least he lets it be known he believes in the business. They’re should be more guys like Cena to improve image and awareness of the business as a great form of entertainment and a great sport.
- Matt Hardy beats R-Truth with the Twist of Fate.
- Recap video airs of the scary promo cut by HBK for Taker.
- Michaels to Air a tribute to Undertaker
- Mixed Tag Match
Carlito and primo with Brie Bella defeated Miz and Morrison with Nikki Bella.
- Jeff hardy promo. Jeff appears with his head down hair over his face
- ‘Orton Law’ video airs
- Divas Championship
Divas Champion Maryse vs. Michelle McCool
Gail Kim Debuts taking out McCool and Maryse holing the Divas Title high then points to the Mania sign.
- The druids Music hits they enter the arena wearing white robes instead of the usual black ones. Smoke intensifies as HBK enters wearing the Undertaker ring attire also in white. HBK begins to talk about how god light and dark HBK meaning light and Undertaker dark. He’s states they have coexisted for almost 20 years. He continues to preach he has eternal life but taker streak doesn’t. This promo is very similar to when he dressed as the ministry of darkness Undertaker mooching him in the lead up to Hell in a Cell. Taker pops up out of the ring again; this is similar to what he did to diesel in the lead up to their Wrestlemania match. Michaels manages to avoid a chokeslam and evade the ring.

I m just waiting 2 watch the grandest stage of them all
Imagine taker mimicing hbk! Taker wouldnt do that, thats not what hes about, but just imagine that would be funny as hell(pun is intended).
Speaking of Smackdown, I was disappointed to notice that WWE.COM states that MVP won the US title from Matt Hardy! While that was true for his first title reign it isn’t correct now. Only a slight error, but a prety poor one considering.
This error may have been correct after your comment ‘Andy R’ but it does state MVP defeated Shelton Benjamin on the 20/03/09 in Corpus Christi Texas.
