John Cena Suffers Legitimate Career Threatening Neck Injury

WWE main event superstar John Cena has sustained a legitimate career altering neck injury, which is causing him to lose significant strength each day and numbness in his arms. There is no one incident being attributed to the injury and it is thought to have developed over the 2008 period.

After undergoing an MRI scan on Saturday when the pain became worrying it was determined that Cena needs surgery and should stop wrestling immediately. The official diagnosis is a herniated disc, which means one of the cushion like segments at the top of his spine has been damaged and worn away. If untreated it can lead to paralysis, although if allowed to rehab he can make a return to the ring.

On Raw last night general manager Mike Adamle announced that Rey Mysterio will replace Cena in the Championship Scramble match at Unforgiven. The storyline reason for his neck injury is that Batista injured him at Summerslam with repeated Batista Bombs. Ironically that probably legitimately aggravated the injury.

“It needs to be dealt with because I lost most of the feeling in my right arm and am having pain in my shoulder,” Cena told WWE.com. “I’m losing 20 percent of my strength per day. If I don’t do anything about it, the injury will end up rupturing and then the surgery will be more difficult. It’s not easy, because surgery never is.”

Cena is visiting neurosurgeon Joseph Maroon at the University of Pittsburgh today to discuss surgery.

Although he will make a return to the ring, this injury is likely to haunt him in years to come. At this time he is out indefinitely with no time frame given on his return.
