January 29, 2009, TNA Impact Spoilers
TNA is back in to the swing of things after a very successful UK tour, that saw them draw their largest ever crowd on 8,000 at London’s Wembley arena. Now back in the Impact Zone, here are the spoilers for the January 29, 2009, episode of Impact, courtesy of Jon Jones:
TNA returned to Orlando on Monday night to tape the January 29 edition of Impact. For those of you in the UK, you’ll be interested to know that Brutus Magnus was in action for the Xplosion taping, beating Eric Young. Impact results as follows:
- Kevin Nash returns to TNA as he and Booker T open the show by making Mike Tenay and Don West leave their announce positions. Scott Steiner takes over as ring announcer while backstage we see Kurt Angle taking over Jeff Jarrett’s office. Sharmell is also in charge of backstage interviews. NWO comparisons? Na, this is NOTHING like that. Really.
- Awesome Kong, Raisha Saeed, Rhaka Khan and Sojourner Bolt beat ODB in a 4-on-1 Handicap Match. Steiner was actually pretty funny doing ring introductions.
- Jeremy Borash is in Kurt Angle’s new office, trying to get him to stop the MEM takeover. JB ends up being given a load of MEM shirts to go and sell.
- Booker T beat referees Rudy Charles and Andrew Thomas. Total squash match with both refs taking Booker’s signature moves. Earl Hebner was referee and being yelled at by Booker all the time. Post-match, Shane Sewell attacked Booker but got attacked as well.
- Sting arrives. He’s not happy. Angle has put him in a Handicap match with Team 3D. The idea is that Kurt wants hurt before the PPV.
- Matt Morgan beat Petey Williams in a match where Williams had to have one arm tied behind his back. Steiner had cut a promo telling Barack Obama to build a wall to keep Canadians out of the country. Post-match, Steiner told Morgan to finish Williams off. He got beaten down until Eric Young, Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal made the save. Booker T got involved as well, doing some commentary on the mic in between fighting.
- Backstage, Sharmell asked The Motor City Machineguns why they didn’t get involved. Shelley said they were too pre-occupied watching from backstage.
- Team 3D beat Sting via DQ. Steiner introduced 3D as being from the State of Obesity. 3D cut a promo on Sting saying they felt sorry for him as he was about to get a beatdown. Tons of run-ins with Angle, Steiner and Booker all in the ring. LAX, Abyss and Mick Foley hit the ring as well. Foley made Steiner vs. Abyss tonight in a weapons match plus Kurt Angle in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match with LAX.
- Mike Tenay, Don West and David Penzer returned to ringside as NWO Impact ended.
- Abyss beat Scott Steiner via DQ. Its a weapons match, but only Abyss can use them, which led to the DQ when Steiner used a lead pipe. Post-match, Steiner laid into Abyss until Suicide appeared to make the save and then quickly disappear.
- Kurt Angle beat LAX after Angle pinned Homicide following an Olympic Slam to close the show.
Live, I thought this was one of the worst tapings in a long time, however it may well come off better on TV. It really seemed like I was watching a WCW taping from a decade ago.
Impact tapes again tonight and I’ll have spoilers up on the site early Wednesday.
