January 16 and 23, WWE Smackdown Spoilers

Smackdown spoilers from Omaha, NE
by Amber Woods

Smackdown for January 16:

- Vickie Guerrero and Triple H open the show with Triple H saying sorry for putting out the nude photos last week. He then shows the pictures to the crowd anyway. Vickie announces Triple H vs. Big Show in a Last Man Standing match with H’s Royal Rumble place on the line. She then changes her mind and makes it MVP vs. Big Show, but still with H’s Rumble place on the line.

- Matt Hardy and Finlay beat Mark Henry and new ECW Champion Jack Swagger when Hardy pinned Swagger. Good match but since ECW hadn’t aired on TV when the tapings went down, nobody knew Swagger was champion.

- R-Truth beat The Brian Kendrick. Afterwards, Ezekiel attacked R-Truth.

- MVP beat Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match to end his losing streak. Good match which ended when Show was going to chokeslam MVP off the stage but Triple H hit him with a Sledgehammer.

- Backstage, Vickie tells Triple H he is now out of the Rumble match but Triple H says she can’t do that since he didn’t interfere at ringside. Vickie makes Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov for next week.

- Michelle McCool beat Victoria. Afterwards, Victoria announced tonight was her last night with WWE and that she was retiring.

- Edge hosted ‘The Cutting Edge’ with Jeff Hardy as his guest. Edge said he wasn’t involved with the hit-and-run before introducing Jeff. As Jeff came out, his pyro misfired and he got caught up in the explosion. Jeff goes out on a stretcher to end the first show. A load of kids in the crowd really bought into this.

Smackdown for January 23:

- Edge opens the show. He denies the pyro incident was anything to do with him. He gets jumped by Matt Hardy and they brawl through the crowd. Vickie Guerrero makes a no DQ match between the two for later tonight.

- The Undertaker beat Shelton Benjamin in a solid, non-title match.

- The Great Khali beat Chavo Guerrero. Squash.

- Edge beat Matt Hardy in a no DQ match after Mark Henry and Jack Swagger interfered and allowed Edge to hit a spear for the win. Fun match.

- The Bella Twins vs. Michelle McCool and Natalya went to a no-contest after Maria returned and attacked Michelle, who ended up leaving Maria lying.

- World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz beat WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito and Primo in a non-title match. For me, this was the match of the night. A lot of fun and well worth watching a week on Friday.

- Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov got underway before being stopped and restarted as a 2-on-1 handicap match with Kozlov being joined by Big Show. The stipulation was that if Triple H lost, he would enter the Royal Rumble match at #1. He did lose, so H is the first entrant at the Royal Rumble.
