Heel Report – Week 13

As a fan I have always been naturally drawn to cheering for heels and booing faces, now maybe I have the WWE backwards but it just seems to me that heels are far more entertaining to watch, so I have decided to showcase the heels of the WWE in all their cheating and underhanded glory with this weekly heel report.

This week’s top ten:

1st Place: C.M. Punk

After only a couple of weeks on the chart the straight-edge superstar has already claimed top spot on the chart. Attacking Hardy, the crowd and even the parents of fans with his morally superior outlook no one seems to be safe from Smackdown’s newest heel. Now, can he get his title back? (10/10 points)

2nd Place: Chris Jericho

After being miss-managed by the WWE Y2J finds himself coming in second this week. Orton getting a week off from being hassled by Raw’s guest host means Jericho got more mic time but also had to share this with the world’s largest athlete. Hopefully the chart’s most successful superstar won’t slip too much further due to having to share the stage with his 7ft tag team partner. (9/10 points)

3rd Place: The Miz

After a few weeks of absence the chick magnet gets all the way up to third place on the chart after having the chance to stop Cena’s chance at beating the clock. As it was he failed, but it’s the trying that counts here and using his head to prolong the match gets the Miz a respectable eight points. (8/10 points)

4th Place: Tyson Kidd

A nice showing from the self-proclaimed crown prince of the WWE. I have to wonder if the Hart Dynasty will run up against the undisputed tag team champions at any point after their loss this week, or will there have to be a title change before the Canadian trio get a shot at the gold. (7/10 points)

5th Place: Randy Orton

Two appearances for Raw’s top heel this week and I’m beginning to wonder if the Legend Killer really deserves that title. Reaching only fifth place on the chart after being handed the easy victim of Primo speaks to me of wasted opportunity and Orton seems to be taking a heel backseat to Jericho on Raw. Perhaps Orton will reclaim his top spot when Jericho finally loses the belts. (6/10 points)

6th Place: Cody Rhodes

A good week for the Legacy lackey as the son of the American Dream manages to claim himself five heel points in the process. Although after failing to win the Undisputed tag team titles it has to be asked what Priceless have left apart from being under Orton’s thumb. (5/10 points)

7th Place: Ted DiBiase

Solid work from DiBiase this week, but not solid enough to surpass his two other Legacy teammates. Executing Orton’s will on a weekly basis can only get these future stars so far and at some point we all know that they will have to break away, the only question is will the WWE get the timing right? (4/10 points)

8th Place: Carlito

Some classic brother backstabbing nets Carlito a place on this week’s chart. Will the WWE now give the apple-spitting superstar yet another push or will the momentum this time go to his brother, and can Primo do anything with it if he gets one? (3/10 points)

9th Place: Maryse

Losing the Diva’s championship at Night of Champions does nothing to hurt Maryse’s heel appeal as she worked with the same bitchy diva-ness as always. With the lack of interest in the Diva division in the WWE it is likely Maryse will stay put as the most dominant diva for a long time to come. (2/10 points)

10th Place: Dolph Ziggler

A great match at Night of Champions but a slow week in terms of heel action means that Ziggler slips all the way down to tenth place this week after riding high in the build up to his match with Mysterio. Where will Ziggler go from here? Check back next week to find out. (1/10 points)

Overall top ten:

* 1st Place – Chris Jericho: 120/130

*2nd Place – Randy Orton: 74/130

*3rd Place – Dolph Ziggler: 73/130

*4th Place – The Miz: 72/130

*5th Place – Edge: 69/130

*6th Place – Jack Swagger: 57/130

*7th Place – C.M. Punk: 46/130

*8th Place – Tyson Kidd: 20/130

*9th Place – The Big Show: 19/130

*10th Place – Maryse: 19/130

Weekly Filler:

The Face-Off: Ask the Divas

Yes, that’s right I did put ‘Ask the Divas’ in this column last week, but it’s such a pointless and rubbish segment that I might just put it in here every week until the WWE drop it from their programming. If you want to waste time and make the Divas look like shallow, vacant, idiots on your website then go right ahead, but please WWE don’t force me to watch it on actual airtime where we could have real wrestling rather than Vince’s idea of “entertainment”.

Face the Facts: Shad

Not only is the man big and impressive in the ring but apparently he can do a mean wookie impression. Sure the segment was a little cheesy, but it kind of reminded me of the comedy they used to have in the WWE; cheap but funny. Not like most of the current skits, which are usually unfunny and just plain stupid. I’m looking forward to seeing how the big man can match up to someone like the Big Show in a high profile title match, I personally think he will hold his own.

On the Rise: Zack Ryder

The ludicrously dressed Ryder has appeared in this segment before but he is appearing again for good reason; namely that he was in the main event on ECW and gave himself a good showing. Now I know ECW is seen as being at the lower end of the WWE’s programming, what with only being one hour and never having title defences as main events on PPVs. But when you think about it rating-wise ECW is equal to TNA and TNA’s ratings are nothing to scoff at. Just think about it like this; almost as many people watched Christian vs. Ryder as they did Angle vs. Foley. Personally I’d count that as something to brag about.

Flat-Footed: Paul Burchill

After two losses to the same opponent in as many weeks how can Burchill be seen as anything more than a jobber on ECW. Just like Kendrick before him on Raw I can see Burchill being let go before too long, there are too many “up and coming” wrestlers from FCW to make room for to keep around guys who the WWE creative seemingly have nothing to do with. Last week he at least attacked Yoshi after the match, this week he just walked out of the arena with his tail between his legs, possibly leaving of our screens for good.

Crossing the Line: Eric Young

(After getting a few comments on how I should be covering TNA as well as the WWE I will now be adding a little on TNA every week to give everyone a small taste of what they have to offer heelwise)

Last week’s forming of the World Elite was a brilliant heel moment as it made perfect sense but was understated enough as not to be completely telegraphed. Eric Young having crossed the line to being a heel a few weeks ago and being Canadian makes him the perfect fit for the leader of this anti-American faction and will hopefully give him the push he has always deserved.

Sure the anti-American faction has been done many times before, but that is because it is a classic staple of professional wrestling. Plus there is the possibility that they might find themselves up against the Main Event Mafia at some point since it is made up of all American superstars. That may be a way down the line but two heel factions warring over belts or dominance of a company is something we haven’t seen in years and would be a nice change from the norm. If there is one thing TNA is good for at the moment it is playing the long game when it comes to storylines, let’s just hope the company doesn’t burn out or implode before all of these drawn out plans are realised.

This is James Wright signing off, see you next week.
