Fans Arrested After Chris Jericho Incident, WWE Makes Statement
Following the Chris Jericho fan incident that happened on Saturday after the WWE house show in Victoria, BC, “fans” Ashley Levey and Kalen Johl were arrested for assault. Both can clearly be seen hitting and grabbing for Jericho before he retaliated. The video footage was made available earlier today. WWE released the following statement:
“After leaving a live event in Victoria, British Columbia on Saturday evening, Chris Jericho’s car was attacked by a mob when he was stopped at a stop sign. Unable to proceed, Chris Jericho exited his car to ask the crowd to clear a path so he could continue through the intersection. A man and a woman physically and verbally assaulted Mr. Jericho. Arena and WWE security arrived to establish enough order to allow Mr. Jericho to re-enter his vehicle and depart. The local police arrived minutes later. Mr. Jericho was unharmed in the incident.”

3 cheers for Jericho. Security was worthless and this could have clearly and easily gotten out of hand. I’m glad Jericho is alright.
How unfortunate that some fans can’t distinguish in-ring persona from the human-just-like-the-rest-of-us men and women who choose to combine their athletic skills with some acting for an overall, entertaining profession. *Boo,* *you suck* and even the *you’re a disgrace to Canada* are pretty harmless accusations when shouted WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF ENTERTAINMENT, but to physically lash out crosses a line, and I feel that there are even some verbal assaults that cross that same line — I don’t care who you are.
Sure, WWE fans fork over cash to be entertained, but that doesn’t equal carte blanche to act like irrational a-holes and abuse the entertainment whether inside or outside the ring (yeah, can’t wait for the day when nothing is taped live again, and we can revert to canned audience response because live audiences have become unreliable and explosive).
Some fans need a serious reality check. If you can’t reasonably enjoy the drama that WWE unfolds among its characters, then maybe you need the kind of audience interaction that a show like Jerry Springer offers. ‘Nuff said.
Jericho did nothing wrong. Fans should realize that the show is entertainment and not “real”. I’m sure he wishes he could win the WWE title every time he could, but in reality it’s up to the writers and WWE itself. Booing and saying such things as “You suck.” are one thing, but attacking a performer as well as spitting on him is a low blow.
