Daniels Arrested For DWI, MVP On Wrestler Deaths, ECW Re-Runs Match

- TNA star Daniels (Christopher Covell) was arrested Friday evening in Smithfield and charged with driving while impaired after he showed a 0.14 in a roadside breath test, following a random stop of his Doge Charger. He was later released on $2,000 bail and if he has no priors it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

- Although the controversy surrounding young wrestler deaths has died down since the passing of Andrew “Test” Martin, WWE star MVP commented on the unusual situation of wrestling’s high mortality rate in the The Huffington Post.

“There has to be a line drawn between the old guard and the new guard. A lot of guys dying young came from our profession in a different era. They came up in a time where contract were structured very differently. If you didn’t work, you didn’t get paid. If you didn’t get paid, you couldn’t feed your family. Guys worked through injuries taking pain medication and whatever other drugs so they could get through the schedule. It’s different now. If we were injured, our medical is taken care of. We’re still paid. Once upon a time you’d go into locker rooms, and you’d see guys drinking beer or getting high. Nowadays, you’d see guys drinking energy drinks or protein shakes. It’s changed a lot. I think WWE and the McMahon family have made huge strides in making wrestling a more palatable product. I challenge you to find an 8-year-old kid who doesn’t know who John Cena is or doesn’t have action figures in their toy box. We’ve become so much more.”

While its true you no longer get 6 wrestlers to a car drinking Jack Daniels in the middle of the road anymore, there are still Wellness Suspensions on a fairly regular basis, high pot use in the lockerroom and the fairly recent releases of Trevor Murdoch, Lance Cade, Hardcore Holly and Umaga suggesting other unsavory drug use.

As I’ve written before, we’ll have to wait when this generation reaches the 40+ range to see if they aren’t sugar coating the situation.

- Tonight’s ECW on SyFy will re-run the Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels match from WrestleMania 25, although it may be edited for time purposes.
