Big Dixie Carter Update, ECW Rating, Angle Update, Khan’s First Comments

- In TNA news, Several wrestlers “off the record” have commented once again on the apparent delusion of President Dixie Carter. The feeling is that her heart is in the right place and she wants to help the company grow, but instead of going in a more “wrestling” non WWE direction, she is taking as many pointers as possible from the bigger company in order to replicate their success.

Although Taz who has replaced Don West isn’t a bad decision in itself, it represents her wider plan to develop a more “sports entertainment” based show. As reported last week, Carter has discussed bringing in some Hollywood writers to bolster their creative team, and already has one young guy acting as her middleman. Dutch Mantel had his faults, but he at least he knew what wrestling is. Now the only person left with any real creative clout is Vince Russo, somebody often linked to the death of WCW.

The perceived misconception in her mind is that WWE got where it was because of the “Hollywood writers”, but some wrestlers feel she is missing the fact that WWE had already built its foundation and in many respects their creative direction is actually a lot worse than 5 years ago.

It seems if somebody like Jim Cornette or Mike Tenay doesn’t school her in “wrestling” the traditional genre may complete disappear in the next few years.

It’s only common sense to see that you can’t compete with WWE at their own game. TNA needs to showcase a completely different product in terms of in-ring wrestling, storylines and overall presentation; at the minuted they are just WWE with a little more vulgarity and half of their past stars. That doesn’t necessarily mean they need to go “old school” headlocks, but replicating WWE is not a winning formula, not in a market dominated by WWE.

Carter is of course about to make a proper onscreen debut.

- This week’s episode of ECW on SyFy featuring William Regal beating Christian drew a 1.2 cable rating.

- In an update to the heavily publicized Kurt Angle situation, the Judge has allowed him back inside his Pittsburgh home, after ex-live-in girlfriend Trenesha “Rhaka Khan” Biggers used a protection order against him just hours after it had been enacted.

In her first statement she revealed the reason why she canno longer work for TNA. “I was told that by filing the PFA I was forcing them to choose between the two of us. I knew that when I filed it. I knew there was no way I was probably going to be able to work there anymore. I’ve forgiven so many times for what he’s done to me, and I’ve been around him and been fine, but now, he’s gone and slandered me. In the wrestling ring, you got to be able to trust the person you’re working with and know that they’re not going to hurt you.”

It must be noted that she was on the outs with TNA before the current drama after no shows, and brawling with Roxxi, leading to Roxxi’s release.

  1. OK…didn’t realize that Khan was the reason Roxxi was released…this was a bad trade-off. Can anyone else imagine a hardcore rules match between Roxxi and Daphne? I think I might be drooling….

  2. Just found this site and I say Thank You. Love all the opinions I’ve read so far. What has happened to Kurt Angle. Last time I saw one of his matches he was looking more like Gilberg then King Kurt. For some reason I just can’t get used to the shape of the TNA ring.

  3. Lauro: The TNA ring is just a gimmick. It serves no other value, and it kinda pulls you out of the program. Actually, the endless talking pulls you out first, but the ring is a close second.

  4. I don’t TNA talks anymore then WWE. Unless you’re talking about the Lauren interviews, those are terrible!
The TNA matches however are superior. Even with the funny looking ring. I still like WWE more because I think production talent is more important then “in ring” talent. Yeah… I’m an asshole.
