The News:
It may have been one night after WWE Champion Randy Orton retained his precious title at SummerSlam, but The Viper wouldn’t be celebrating in Las Vegas by the end of the evening. Instead, it would be Mr. McMahon who would be celebrating not only his birthday but also a hard-fought victory.
Quick Results:
- The Miz def. Santino Marella
- Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes def. Divas Champion Mickie James, Kelly Kelly & Gail Kim.
- MVP & Mark Henry def. Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show
- Hornswoggle def. Chavo Guerrero in boxing match
- DX & Mr. McMahon def. Randy Orton & The Legacy
Full Recap:
- As Orton patted himself on the back for retaining the gold in a match that saw a fan charge the ring and interrupt the bout, DiBiase revealed that the “fan” in question was actually his younger brother, Brett. While the revelation prompted the entire WWE Universe to offer a collective “Hmmm,”Orton claimed he would have won without Brett’s interference. Mr. McMahon, however, wasn’t so convinced.
The Chairman announced that not only would Raw celebrity guest host Floyd “Money” Mayweather be arriving later in the evening, but that Orton would be forced to defend his title against Cena in three weeks in an “I Quit” Match at WWE’s newest pay-per-view, WWE Breaking Point, in which each Superstar must win by submission. And if anyone interferes during this bout, Orton will be stripped of the title.
Before he could leave, however, The Chairman was stopped by his longtime antagonists, DX. Triple H & Shawn Michaels did not let the opportunity pass to razz Mr. McMahon, who was celebrating his 64th birthday. During an extravagant Las Vegas ribbing, however, they were attacked by the tag team they had defeated the night before at SummerSlam, Rhodes & DiBiase.
The strike angered DX enough to prompt The Game to announce a main event No Disqualifications Match pitting Orton & Legacy against DX and … Mr. McMahon!
- The Miz def. Santino Marella:
The Miz hasn’t been in much of a joking mood lately. Instead, the self-important Superstar has shown he’s determined to capture the United States Championship from Kofi Kingston. He presented a strong case when he met Santino Marella and flattened the Italian like a thin-crust pizza.
- Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes def. Divas Champion Mickie James, Kelly Kelly & Gail Kim:
In honor of Raw’s celebrity guest host, boxing great Floyd “Money” Mayweather, the Divas battled in boxing attire during a 6-Diva Tag Team Match (“Mayweather Melee”) placing Divas Champion Mickie James, Kelly Kelly & Gail Kim against Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes. While Mickie has been riding a wave of momentum lately, The Glamazon has also savored victory, having emerged on top after a 15-Diva Battle Royal the night before at SummerSlam. As the two teams clashed, it would be Phoenix who would lead her team to triumph.
- MVP & Mark Henry def. Unified Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho & Big Show:
You just knew it would get ugly. Big Show has harbored a grudge against Raw’s celebrity guest host, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, ever since the boxer beat him at WrestleMania XXIV. When Mayweather and his posse entered the ring, Show and his partner Chris Jericho were there to greet him. After verbal jabs were exchanged, MVP came out to set the record straight: Mayweather is the greatest boxer in the world. The Ballin’ Superstar then suggested a match: MVP and a partner vs. the Unified Tag Team Champions. Raw’s guest host readily agreed and also concurred that if MVP and his partner win, they will earn a title opportunity against Jericho & Show at WWE Breaking Point. And just who did MVP chose as his partner? The World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry.
- After a see-saw battle between the two heavyweight teams, Mayweather used his lightening quick hands to toss MVP a pair of brass knuckles, which allowed Montel Vontavious Porter & Henry to seize not only victory but also an opportunity at the Unified Tag Team Titles at WWE Breaking Point.
- Hornswoggle def. Chavo Guerrero in boxing match:
In the latest in a series of humiliations for the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior,” Chavo Guerrero again faced off against Hornswoggle and came up, well, short. This time, the two laced up boxing gloves, with Chavo forced to use oversized gloves, and stood toe-to-toe. Frustrated, Chavo removed his gloves and landed a punch that sent the leprechaun out of the ring for the disqualification. As Chavo prepared to further pummel his prey, however, Evan Bourne swooped in to save the little guy.
- DX & Mr. McMahon def. Randy Orton & The Legacy:
For many, it felt as if they were watching dogs snuggling with cats, the Boston Red Sox high-fiving the New York Yankees or Britney Spears reunite with reality. Only this was even stranger: Mr. McMahon paired with his longtime tormentors DX in the ring. While the coupling was certainly unprecedented, it was also successful. Although The Chairman and his teammates had never fought together before, they were cohesive enough to hold their own and chase Orton from the ring.
As Orton tried to slither up the ramp to safety, his path was obstructed when John Cena entered. With nowhere to run, Orton clamored back into the ring, where HBK offered up Sweet Chin Music. Then, it was Cena’s turn. Avenging his underhanded loss from the night before, Orton’s SummerSlam opponent took the opportunity to administer a well-deserved Attitude Adjustment, allowing Mr. McMahon to slide over for the three-count.

RAW, to me, is beginning to resemble a black hole; it sucks harder than anything in the known universe! Beyond dreadful. Please, no more guest hosts. No more Chavo (poor git) vs Hornswoggle. No more Triple H, Cena, Orton main events. Let Swagger, Bourne, Kingston etc pick up clean wins against The Unholy Triumvarate…please…?
This was another apalling Raw. DX used to be a faction, a stable, not a tag-team, surely? And when Triple H joined, he wasn’t a main eventer. So why not bring DX back to what it was – and bring some young guys in (and kick Trippers out…). Look at the way the fresher stars are used on Smackdown – and then compare them to the way the Evan Bournes and Jack Swaggers are treated on Raw. No wonder that at Summerslam, the dire matches were from Raw, and the best matches were from Smackdown.
Truly, this a depressing and horrible episode of Raw.
i think that a match was cut from raw in vegas last night. i clearly remember michael cole saying something about kofi kingston being in action tonight but it never happened. probably because of the opening segment running way over time. even vince said so to hhh who responded by saying ‘yeah.. but what do you care, ts your show’. clearly another example of hhh craving the spotlight!
To me the problem with DX is it isn’t properly edgey anymore. You can clearly see their neatly designed T-shirts and merchandise shilling efforts. Even there special effects are almost too good, if that makes any sense. They are supposed to be anti-establishment, but they look like corporate goons.
It’s like they went from wearing biker boots to laced up trainers. They are parodying themselves.
Raw to me was awful. DX and Vinnie Mac spent wayyyyy too much time in the ring at the off set. They ran like twenty-five minutes of time for what? Nothing. Miz vs. Santino? That’s how you’re gonna get noticed? Santino? The Diva match was laughable. And Mickie being pinned was punishment for her after she showed visible frustration with Gail Kim last week. Besides that, the Diva in ring skill is awful (and I’m being kind here). TNA’s Knockouts have WWE Diva’s beat hands down. The tag match with Jericho and Show was okay. I knew Floyd was gonna do something so that he would get over with the crowd. Hornswoggle vs Chavo? Again for like the hundredth time? C’mon. Use this time to develop/push younger stars, not use it as filler. There’s guys in the back hungry for a chance, and you waste it on fifteen minutes of Hornswoggle and Chavo? The whole thing ran its course about ten years ago. Give it a rest. Please. DX + Vinnie Mack vs RKO and Legacy. Failed match. Letting DX win again for the second night???? Allowing them to get the upper hand ONLY when they attack you from behind???? You make your heels look weak. Why not let Legacy win at Summerslam and Raw, then have Legacy attack DX + Vinnie Mac after the match, then have Cena run in for the save. Sounds much better doesn’t it WWE? Allow your heels to go over. As the poster said before me what does another Triple H even mean at this point in his career? As long as Vince allow Triple H to have free reign on Raw and not allow the younger stars to shine, Raw will be only number 2 to Smackdown, WWE’s new flagship program.
Ok, I was going into Raw thinking it would be very good because Orton was still champ.. But I was wrong with that..
First off Vince comes out, then makes and “I quit” match with him and Cena, and nobody can interfere in it or Orton loses? What about if someone interfered for Cena? Anyway. The whole birthday think gave me a couple chuckles but I thought Michael Cole was seriously gonna shit his pants.. He laughed at every single little thing it was beyond pathetic.. I just wish DX would do something worthwhile and make fun of Cole, cause he deserves it..
Santino vs Miz= well hopefully they push Miz to the uS title I have a feeling he’ll get a shot but probably wont get the belt
Divas match= filler nothing more
the whole Jericho/Show segment was ok, but I guess Mark Henry has gone from dancing with midgets to teaming with MVP? wtf? Anyway.. of course WWE didnt mention themselves that it tok 20 other people to take Big Show out and not just Floyd. But I guess thats the announcers just jumping on any heel thing they can and ignoring the obvious things that faces to that cheat as well
tag match= ok match, I still am hoping Jericho/Show retain the belts
Hornswaggle vs Chavo= I think Jeremy Borash said it best that “a WCW death DVD followed by a Chavo vs Hornswaggle boxing match” yeah hypocritical arent we WWE? Not to mention the fact I wanted to stangle Cole yet again when he said, “entertainment at its greatest”. I guess Bourne making the save was the only way he was gonna get on TV. Sad for someone of his talent to be reduced to protecting midgets
Main event= well it was obvious what was gonna happen. We hadnt heard from Cena all night so it was obvious he was gonna show his sorry ass up. Him doing the DX chop was the most hypocritcal thing of DX’s history after Raw of course. So we may have a new Legacy member but other then that Raw really didnt do anything for me
BTW, who in their right mind under the age of 5 doesnt know that “super Cena’ will never submit. Well I’ll enjoy Ortons title reign while I can
