2009, WWE Breaking Point PPV Results

- In a dark match, Evan Bourne beat Chavo Guerrero.

- Chris Jericho & Big Show © vs. Mark Henry & MVP for the Unified Tag Team Titles opens the show. Interesting crowd reactions. MVP and Henry got pops coming out but as the match progressed, that reaction become more mixed, although Henry got a big pop for lifting Big Show and that seemed to turn things again, with the crowd really into the challengers. Decent opener which was helped by the crowd. Finish came when Henry caught Jericho when he was going for the Codebreaker and lifted him above his head before letting go of him, landing face first. With the referee not looking, Big Show hit Henry with the KO punch from the apron, laying him out and allowing Jericho to make the cover and get the win.

- Legacy interview backstage. Cody Rhodes said DX were great, but tonight they’d ensure that the underdogs tonight were the team with the initials D and X. Hardly a classic promo!

- Kofi Kingston © vs. The Miz for the United States Title is up next. Miz cut his “I’m The Miz and I’m awesome” promo before the match in French. Decent back and forth match at a good pace. The crowd weren’t always into it and it did seem like many were surprised to see this on the PPV. Some good exchanges and a ton of near falls towards the end, with Kofi hitting Trouble in Paradise before making the cover and getting the win. Solid match.

- Submissions Count Anywhere: DX vs. Legacy is up next. DX over huge for their entrance but the ‘You Screwed Bret’ chants soon started. Triple H worked it into his pre-match routine on the mic and said it was nothing to do with him and was Michaels’ fault. They went out of the ring early and fought around ringside and into the crowd before heading to the concourse where DX locked in figure fours on Legacy as a crowd around them chanted ‘You Screwed Bret’ then broke into a ‘Ole, Ole’ chant, which was weird to hear in WWE. The match went back to the ring before they headed back into the crowd where Rhodes tossed Michaels from the upper tiers to a blacked out platform below, taking him out of the match.

Legacy and Triple H brawled around the arena and backstage. The crowd started cheering which you could tell meant Michaels was back on his feet as Trips gave DiBiase a spinebuster through a catering table. Camera cut to Michaels on his feet heading backstage as Legacy laid out Trips backstage with a chair. The camera stayed on Trips for a while then cut to the top of the ramp where Legacy were double teaming Michaels, so no idea if the camera wasn’t meant to cut back to him the first time. The match was continuing but Lawler and Cole on commentary were treating this like Michaels and Trips had been killed just because they weren’t on top. Michaels fought Legacy off and Lawler and Cole were happy again. He hit Rhodes with a superkick and the camera cut to Triple H stirring backstage. Michaels looked like he was going to put the sharpshooter on Rhodes and the crowd went crazy but he was going for a figure four, which DiBiase broke up. Rhodes put a figure four on Michaels around the ring post and DiBiase locked in the Million Dollar Dream. Triple came crawling down the ramp to try and make the save but Michaels tapped before he could get there. DX losing in Montreal. Wow. I don’t think anybody saw that happening – I certainly didn’t.

- Backstage, Josh Matthews asked Randy Orton for some reaction to Legacy’s win over DX. The promo went into Orton talking about how Cena can’t be sure he can’t say the words “I Quit.” Orton said he’ll force Cena to quit. Weird promo from intense Orton, who sounded like he had been watching Jake Roberts promos.

- The Great Khali vs. Kane in a Singapore Kane Cane Match is up next. Todd Grisham said this won’t be pretty. He isn’t kidding. Crowd booed Kane. Crowd booed Khali. Crowd booed the match starting. Khali chopped Kane’s chest and the handprint could still be seen a couple of minutes later. They both got canes early as there are several attached to each ring post. Kane took Khali down with cane shots and then used the cane to apply a fucking armbar. Jesus. Khali took the cane and proceeded to beat Kane with it as the crowd booed. Khali locked in the vice grip but Kane used a cane to escape. Ranjin interfered but Kane laid him out. Kane then chokeslammed Khali and got the 1, 2, 3. Match was about as awful as you’d expect it to be going in.

- CM Punk interviews backstage. Surprisingly, he mentioned Jeff Hardy and said how you wouldn’t see his mugshot on the news. They didn’t go into any details other than Punk saying that he was right. Punk said he wasn’t scared of the Undertaker’s tricks. At this point, the lights went out. When they came back on, Punk looked scared…then pissed, when he saw it was Jimmy Wang Yang who had turned them off. Punk attacked him, then said he wasn’t scared of The Undertaker.

- Christian © vs. William Regal for the ECW Title is up next. Huge ovation for Christian. Before the match got started, it was announced that Ezekiel and Kozlov were banned from ringside. They had a decent match which went back and forth. Finish came after Christian had hit a ton of moves and got a few near falls. He missed with a top rope dropkick and Regal hit a rolling senton. Christian fought back and avoided a running knee, then hitting the Killswitch and getting the pinfall win. Best match of the night so far.

- Pat Patterson was introduced and got a good pop in his hometown as he came to the ring. As soon as he was introduced as the first ever Intercontinental champion, you could tell this was leading to an angle. Dolph Ziggler came out, probably pissed that his match was scrapped while Jimmy Wang Yang gets a PPV cameo. Patterson said one day maybe Ziggler will be IC champion. Ziggler took the mic and asked who is sat at home watching Golden Girls reruns if Patterson is there. A few lame age related jokes followed, none of which got a reaction. Ziggler said he thought Patterson was dead until he saw him tonight. He said they were wasting PPV time on an old fossil who nobody cares about. Ziggler got a ‘Shut the fuck up’ chant as he continues with some lame jokes. This segment is awful. Ziggler called Patterson a coward and kicked him in the stomach before John Morrison came out to no reaction to make the save. In the time this segment lasted, they could have just had the Morrison-Ziggler match, which even if lasted for three minutes and was full of botched spots would have been a million times better than this segment was.

- Randy Orton © vs. John Cena in an I Quit Match for the WWE Title is up next. The match went to the outside early with Orton in control. He laid out Cena with a TV monitor then hit his DDT from the ropes. He set up for an RKO on a chair but Cena countered and made a comeback, which Montreal booed. Orton blocked an FU and went for the punt but Cena moved and went for the STF, which Orton then blocked. Orton picked up the ring steps and laid Cena out with them. Orton got some handcuffs out from under the ring and cuffed Cena to the ropes, putting the key to them on a chain around his neck. Orton used the microphone to deck Cena, who said he wouldn’t quit. Orton then cuffed Cena’s hands together and hung them over the top of one of the ringposts.

Orton continued to beat Cena, this time using a kendo stick to the stomatch and head. Cena got himself freed from the ringpost but was still cuffed as Orton hit a chairshot, then decided to cuff him to one of the turnbuckles. Orton went for another chairshot but Cena moved. Orton lost the key to the cuffs and Cena was able to free himself from the turnbuckle and cuffed himself to Orton, proceeding to beat the crap out of him. He went for the FU but Orton countered while still cuffed and hit an RKO. Orton tried to reach for the key to free himself but Cena stopped him and locked in a modified STF, using the cuff’s to pull Orton’s arm around his own neck. Orton quickly said he quit and John Cena is the new WWE champion.

- CM Punk © vs. The Undertaker in a Submission Match for the World Heavyweight Title is up next. The usual rule about the closing match would suggest a title change here but we’ll see. Undertaker dominated early on but then crotched himself on the guardrail at ringside. Punk hit him with a couple of chair shots but Taker soon got back in control. He went for Old School but Punk countered and crotched him on the top rope before hitting a superplex. The crowd did the dualling “boo, yay” chants as the two went back and forth. Taker hit snake eyes and went for a chokeslam but Punk laid him out with a kick to the head. Punk then went in close to Taker, who locked in his Hell’s Gate submission hold. Punk tapped out quick and Undertaker was announced as new champion.

Teddy Long came out and announced that the hold is still banned, as announced months ago by Vickie Guerrero. Teddy Long announced that the match is restarted. Punk locked in the Anaconda Vice after avoiding the Last Ride and WWE recreated the 1997 Montreal screwjob with the referee calling for the bell despite Taker not tapping out. Punk and the referee bailed to the top of the ramp as Teddy Long looked on, with Undertaker left in the ring looking pissed off. The crowd didn’t care for this at all as the show went off the air, with Jim Ross stating several times that Taker didn’t tap.

  1. Maybe it’s just early and my coffee hasn’t kicked in yet but I can’t seem to get my mind around WHY?!?! WHY recreate the screwjob, WHY the Undertaker, and WHERE can this one be going. CM Punk is a solid worker, good moves and fantastic heat (which will probably double, now, at least) but the kind of push that this would indicate, with the players involved, seems enormous! Thoughts anyone.

  2. The end of the cm punk vs undertaker match was like a giant middle finger to me as I prayed for a good match out of this, but vince mcmahon had to go fuck up another decent ppv and this is why I don’t watch raw anymore because mcmahon is a lot like russo nowadays.

  3. I was gonna write my own little Breaking Point results thingie, but I was sooo ticked after watching the Punk/Taker finish that I decided not too.

To recreate the Montreal screwjob in Montreal was a stroke of pure genius on the part of WWE’s ever clever writing team. Great job guys! I knew you had it in ya! End sarcasm.

Keelan, what do you think about the Punk/Taker finish?

  4. this was one of the best ppv of the year.
Letting Legacy go over on the has-beens DX was great and well deserved the DX thing is so over played.
And the whole Screw Job thing in Montreal to remind the Canadians of how Vince did Hart was a great angle

  5. I liked it. Punk is getting up there in Jericho land in terms of heel quality.

  6. Well, first of all is that I was happy to see that Legacy beat DX. Enough said.

And Cena as a champion… Mmm… Well, like I said, it’s time for changes.

    Christian retained. Emm, ok, whatever.

I’m also happy to see that Kofi retained (why? Just because), as well as “Christina-Show”. I kinda started to like’em and wait for their segments at SD and especially Raw.

Ohh and when Miz started talking in French, this reminded me the old his storyline with Maryse. I wonder if they continue it after Maryse returns it… I definatelly wouldn’t want her to be face. FRENCHIE-GIRL, KAM BEK, DAMMIT!!

I’m pretty happy with the results.

  7. Ohh Maryse… *sniff* Hurry up healing, gal. You’ve got some entertaining to do!

And why did Me remembered her… =[

    LOL

  8. i thought it was a good ppv
the ending to punk/taker was great although tbh i was just relieved taker didnt win.
i guess punk wont be just transitional champion which is good because i think a returning edge vs punk storyline for the title would be great
    not likely though.

  9. That ppv was a total joke! i am so glad i didn’t waste the money on it!

  10. i liked it becoz young stars won , putting legacy over DX was really cool and made them big stars and same to punk , right now he has become top heel in WWE .

    i will give it 7.5/10 .

  11. I think the Montreal Screw Job is a little out played but it figures that WWE would pull that again about 10 years after the first time. Undertaker never tapped so why say Punk wins I hope Taker get the rematch he rightfully deserves so he can put both Long and Punk on notice. Punk is a deadman and Taker will take him out.

  12. ok, I liked Legacy over DX, but Punk over Taker, and with a screwjob, seriously?!?!? Seriously LAME!!!

Congratulation Punk, you are now the top douchebag.

  13. I personally didnt like it, the matches were sorta…weird, not very ……flowy, for want of a better word! It missed a rey vs jerico match which was full of good wrestling. Legacy are always like this, very scrappy, almost like…..remember when you used to play wrestling as a kid and, random punches were thrown with lots of jumping on each other…like that…strange to watch somehow!

would have been saved if morrison and “Mr Ziggles” actually wrestled and stole the show, which im sure they would have done!

    5 / 10

  14. well guys who holds a grudge here wwe or canadian fans the way i see it they have an opinion which is only right but whatever they think they still fill the place as far as i know brett has let it go so maybe they should but in the same vain wwe bring it on thereself cos in there own way they havent let it go either
so its 50/50 sorry if i have offended any fans buts sometimes things need to be said the matches good win for cena he gets to much grief dx should not have been beat and undertaker was screwed and has been for a while. christian had a good win one more thing a guy asked whats going on with cm punk and taker its settng it up for hell in a cell m8.
again sorry if i offened anyone just saying it as i see it

    cheers timberman

  15. PPV last night was OK. Legacy vs DX was great along with Christian and Regal. I was however disppointed how the Undertaker and CM Punk ended yet I am glad punk kept the title especially since he won it at the last PPV.

I am sure it will be explained on Smackdown. All and all it was the PPV was good.

  16. I personally thought it was the biggest waste of money…but of course all of WWE’s paperviews have been plain shitty here lately…to ever give Hardy or the idiot CM Punk the World HeavyWeight Title was a disgrace to begin with….they should have left the retarded looking WWE Championship for that level of nobodys like CM Punk, Hardy and the even more disgraceful John Cena….The title that the legendary Ric Flair, Bret Hart, and even the pussy Hogan..should have been left for the more legendary names like the Undertaker, or HBK, or that group of wrestlers…I think the WWE needs to get on the ball and kick the non talented roster they have stinking up the shows now out the fucking door and bring back in some true talent and pleaaaaase.. come up with better actually interesting story lines instead of the bullshit they have now…

  17. People complain that titles change hands too early, then complain when Punk keeps the title.

Taker is one of their top names, if he’s going to lose, it’s going to be in some damn near epic match, which this couldn’t have been, because he just came back. Taker in a legit loss is something that should require a hell of a lot build-up. So they went with the screwjob angle since it’s Montreal, they could just as easily have done an evil referee or outside interference or a hundred other things and the result would have been the same.

But this way, they get to re-thumb their noses at the Canadians.

  18. A nice solid PPV, i saw some great mic skills from Ted, and NO reaction from Ziggler, he needs to work hard on that, aswell as Morrison as a face.

  19. I don’t think WWE with be having any shows Or PPV’s in Canada ever again. No wonder they only sold 9000 tickets. I could see this coming after seeing the Sgt Slaughter Edition of Raw, it was just a matter of time.

  20. I did’t like how the Pulled the scheduled Intercontinental Championship match and trade it for a US Title match and a skit with Pat Patterson.

  21. Everyone is just gonna have to accept the fact that CM Punk is NOT a transitional champion. He gets more heat then anyone right now. A win over the Undertaker (clean or not) makes him the real deal.
You could have the Miz, don’t take so hard.

  22. hhhhhhh one thing wwe will be closed in the next 10 years if they keep like this i mean i know they are pushing the young talent like lagesy or cm punk and others but they are doing it in a wrong way and they are not entertaining any more remove the pg raiting please vince i beg you please

  23. Didn’t they say that these were supposed to be submission matches? Or were they just for Championship matches?

  24. booker t you are gay

  25. hi guys

  26. Well I am back for another one of my controversial yet honest comments for the 3rd time my 1st comment was on the royal rumble 2009, my previous comment was on no way out 2009, now its time for wwe breaking point, I disliked the 1st match because jeri-show won and to be honest they bore me to death to watch in the ring, the 2nd match was good because the miz lost because I hate that annoying jerk, the 3rd match blowed because dx lost and legacy won which is weird because legacy sucks, the 4th match I really didnt care who won it was kane vs the great khali and this match was worse than their match at summerslam, the 5th was good because christian won in front of his peeps in his home state in canada, then we get to see another annoying boring jerk who talks way to damn much who goes by the name of dolph ziggler whats his name again he sucks so much I forgot about it already then this jerk badmouths pat patterson and beats him up really thats all mr. ziggles can do as far as winning a match goes, the 6th match was good because john cena won and he did not quit, ok this 7th and last match sucked alot because this gay boring loser hypocrite who goes by the name of cm punk but since I dislike him so much im just gonna call him bm punk anyway bm punk screwed the undertaker out of what could have been a classic match so I am glad I did not buy this ppv and I hope you don’t either please allow my comment to be approved it would mean alot to me if you would. thank you for your time I enjoyed writing my comment and telling you my opinion about this ppv.
