So I'm watching RAW tonight and am realizing WWE must either think wrestling fans have a memory length of a nano-second or are just complete idiots. I think most wrestling fans are past the "is this fake?" question are are comfortable in the "yeah this is fake, but I enjoy the story lines and the action", at least that's where I've been for years.

So when I see a story line like the HBK employed by JBL one we're all currently witnessesing I have to just assume WWE thinks we all are siblings of Festus.

1) So HBK is broke because the stock market took a hit? OK look, I'm invested in the stock market as well and I'm down about 20% overall but that doesn't make me bankrupt and I can't imagine any scenario the HBK storyline was supposed to have taken that would have made him broke either barring a Bernie Madoff investment angle

2) Are we supposed to believe that HBK no longer gets a check from the WWE during this time he's employeed by JBL?

3) According to JBL - apparently the wrestlers are the ones who control the rights to their image and licensing/royalty rights (yeah right) and not the WWE since he can make a match to rob HBK of those rights in perpetuity should HBK lose. I'm sure WWE would have no problems with this.

4) On the lead up to No Way Out what did we all hear? HBK isn't 20 years old anymore [cue endless list of HBK injuries and how he paid for them all and related surgeries himself (sure)]. Now HBK is telling JBL he's Mr. Wrestlemania and looking pretty sprye; as well JBL paid HBK's employment terms off - so HBK is financially secure. JBL must have paid him a few hundred thousand for HBK to feel so secure now.

Just as bonus rants - I also love how wrestlers make their own matches now as compared to when they predominantly had contract signings (acknowledged they still do this ocassionally). I also love how week after week we're supposed to believe 5'6" 165lb Rey Mysterio beats 6'4" 280lb anybody.

Off my soapbox now.

You make a good point, WWE often pushes the line of believability, but I have no major problem with it, as it's a story in their world. For example somebody on the Sopranos (I use this way to often lol), might fall on hard financial times, despite there not actually being a crash in the real world.

However where other shows use their history to shape what's happening now, WWE seems to totally re-write it every few months. Wrestlers that feuded are now tag partner sand so on. Kane is a monster then everyone loves him. The list goes on.

PS it just s happens I had to write about each major stock market for a client last week. If I hear the words index, large cap or trading floor again I'm gonna throwup.

That's a good point - Kane especially has one of the more inconsistent storylines I can recall. Looking past the idea that somehow a short, rotund man could somehow father a 6'9" offspring. But we were told he was horribly disfigured in a fire... looks fine to me (was that part of the angle ever explained away?) and that he needed a electrolarynx to talk. Then because X-Pac tells him he no longer needs the electrolarynx then he can speak normally again.
