Column Of The Week By Dave Stout [C-J]

We all remember those horrific events of last June when Chris killed himself and his famliy.I am not saying we should condone what Chris did just that we must remember that after years of headbuts and chairs to the head his brian was fried and he was not in control of his actions.

What really upsets me is how some people want to be history revisionists and remove the name Chris Beniot from the wrestling history books. This wrong and short sighted if it wasn't for guys like Chris,The Original Tiger Mask,The Dynamite Kid and others who worked there butts off to prove you didn't have to be a 300+ pound jacked up monster to get over with the fans.Remember if these guys hadn't worked there tails off there would be no cruiserweight division or X division and the smaller guys would all be jobbing to all the jacked up monsters instead of being billed as equals.

Chris after all was only human like you and me so he made mistakes he got involved with the dark side of wrestling and it consumed him.To say he shouldn't be remembered for all of his accomplishments in pro wrestling because of the horrific events that day last June is crazy. Two different studies on his brian tissue proved there was no way he was on control of his actions that day.To those nay sayers who do not want to believe that I say look at it like this if he was in control that faithfull day then he realized what he had done and decided to punish himself for his actions and thats why he hung himself.

Chris did do a lot of damage to his legacy because of his actions but believe it or not it can be repaired and some good come out of those horrible events of last June. This can be done by congress forcing the changes that have been needed in pro wrestling for years.Such as having paid medical personal on hand at wresling cards and having it so wrestlers must meet health requirements to be able to compete by this I mean a promoter wouldn't be able to have a superstar work through an injury instead the injured wrestler would be allowed to heal so his or her career could continue.Basicly what I'm saying here is promoters need to be forced to take there share of responsiblity for the health of the wrestlers they use in there shows.Yes the WWE has a testing program but lets face it that program is more to protect Vinces butt then to help the wrestlers and clean up drugs problems in the WWE.Another change the WWE should be forced to make is having a lighter schedule for its superstars as it stands now wwe superstars are on the road 300+ days a year if this was reduced to say 250 to 290 days a year it would a do a lot to reduce injuries in the sport. If these changes where made it could be said that Chris Beniot brought them about.

Personally I choose to remember Chris Beniot as a the guy who busted his tail to entertain the fans with great matches. Not what he did on those finally sad days of his life.Chris Beniot should be remember as one of the men who rewrote the wresling standard not as a monster.I only hope some day he will take his rightfull place in the hall of fame simply because he earned it in the ring entertaining me and you night after night and day after day.

Why he did what he did we will never know. For people to say he did because of this that or the other thing is pure speculation so instead of trying to rewrite history and act like he didn't exist just remember him as a great entertainer and one of the most gifted wrestlers in wrestling history.

News Highlights For The Week

Major Backstage Heat On Batista, Booker T Fight, More

Source: Wrestlezone

Batista remains one of the least popular main event wrestlers in the WWE locker room. According to multiple sources within the company, he rubs a lot of people the wrong way with his attitude and what people perceive as arrogance.

The locker room heat on Batista is not quite as intense as it was after he got into a fight with Booker T back in 2006. The feeling amongst wrestlers and WWE staffers at the time was that Batista had it coming and Booker T gained even more respect in the locker room for standing up to him. Booker and Batista eventually worked out their differences in the interest of professionalism.

Fellow wrestlers say that Batista’s two biggest interests in life seem to be women and cars, not wrestling. They also noted that management has spoken with Batista in the past about his behavior with lady friends he has brought backstage as well as his female co-workers.

One wrestler noted that Chris Benoit was Batista’s mentor, and was known to pull Batista aside and keep him in check when his ego was out of control.

Stephanie Furious Over Mayweather's RAW Segment & More

Source: f4wonline.com

-- If you thought the Floyd Mayweather segments on this Monday's Raw were bad, you're not the only one. Head creative team member Stephanie McMahon was said to be very upset with how Floyd Mayweather's speaking segments came off on Raw. Bruce "Brother Love" Prichard was in charge of Mayweather's segments, and Stephanie allegedly chewed him out for doing such a bad job of directing him. Stephanie hasn't been backstage at WWE shows due to her pregnancy, but she made her feelings known to Prichard in a telephone conversation with him.

-- It was announced at last night’s SmackDown taping that Ric Flair will face Edge, Curt Hawkins, and Zack Ryder on next week’s edition of SmackDown in a steel cage match. The match will not be a “career threatening match.”
Bobby Lashley Could Be In TNA By May
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Booker T and Kurt Angle are pushing TNA officials to reach out to Bobby Lashley.

While Lashley has been telling people that he wants to pursue a career in Mixed Martial Arts, there is a much better chance that he will end up in TNA Wrestling.

According to Meltzer, Lashley will be free to do whatever he wants when WWE finishes paying on his contract in May.

Another Knockout Suffers Concussion

credit to TNAWrestlingNews

TNA Knockout Angel Williams a.k.a. 'Angelina Love' reportedly suffered a concussion, not to mention a broken finger, in her match at last week's iMPACT! taping with Amazing Kong.

Williams is not the first TNA Knockout to suffer a concussion during a match with Awesome Kong as back in January, Christy Hemme had a medical evaluation, and during the evaluation, she told the doctor that she believed she had suffered a concussion in a match with Kong a few weeks prior.

The injury was serious as the doctor wouldn't clear Christy to come to ringside or bump, and she was forced to miss a set of Impact tapings.

The injury also altered some storyline plans as it forced TNA to delay the start of Rock 'n' Rave Infection gimmick.

WNWN thought of the week

From TNA 1 in response to Chris Beniots Legacy

Chris revolusionized this sport. Any normal person who had the brain of an 80 year old would've been in a nursing home. Chris loved this buisness to a certain extent that most would say is too far. Chris truly loved this sport just like you and I. He grew up watching it just like us. He grew up idolizing Dynamite Kid and Bret Hart just like us. Chris' career went downhill when he won the WCW Championship in 2000 at Soled Out against Sid Vicious. It should've been the proudest day of his life but instead it sucked. Kevin Sullivan, who is the Ex-Husband of the late Nancy Benoit, was doing match making at the time. If you know about their history, you know they didn't get along. Kevin did NOT want Chris headlining events as their champion, so he thought it'd be a neat idea to have Benoit make Sid tap out to the crossface, but Sid's foot would be under the rope. That did it for Chris. WCW was making Chris hate the thing he loved most because it wasn't wrestling. It was polotics. The fingure of death, Chucky and the Steiner's, David Arquette, Bash At The Beach Hogan vs. Jarrett,nWo, everything else was all about polotics. In my opinion, that is what started the beginning of the end for Chris Benoit.
