WWE are teasing the Kane “alive or dead” storyline on WWE.com with an article asking “who is he?” They list the following as people that Kane might be referring to:

Vince McMahon, Pete Rose, Undertaker, Ranjin Singh, Jacob Goodnight (Kane’s movie alter ego), Paul Bearer, Boogeyman, 2pac (that one made me laugh), Jim Ross (huh?) and finally Captain America. Lets just say I’d mark out like a bitch if 2pac somehow returned from the dead and came in to WWE.

I think the realistic ones are Undertaker, Paul Bearer and Mr McMahon although the only one that is storyline dead is Bearer.

We’ll have to wait and see.

Nah, he was totally referring to Andy Kaufman.

Is anyone really that excited about Paul Bearer?

Ohhhhhhh yessssssssssssss
I mean no

Nah I think he was always hilarious, but maybe we are a bit past the whole funeral palor thing. Now if they brought in James Mitchell, then that would be something.

Now THAT would be suh-weeet.

I'm totally in agreement that the sun has set on the relevance of Paul Bearer - at least without some massive re-tooling of the gimmick.

...and how the hell do you repackage Paul Bearer?

Supposedly he lost a lot of weight so he wouldn't be the same anyway.

From a personal perspective, I'm excited FOR Percy Pringle 'cause he seems like a good guy and has a loooooong history in the business. Hell, I've dug him since he was a half-assed Bobby Heenan rip-off in Texas.

I'm all for old-school gimmicks but they just don't work these days. Kind of like when 40 year old women have belly button rings, it looks wrong and out of place.

I got excited when he came back last time at WrestleMania and we all know how that ended...another chapter in WrestleCrap lore.

If they could tweak the gimmick and make it less cartoonish and more evil, I'd dig it. I'm not holding my breath, what with all the TV-PG talk.

We all miss the Atittude era, but WWE just doesn't have the horses right now to carry it off. Couple that with them moving back toward the 80's with the kiddie marketing, it may well be a very long time before we see some cutting edge (no pun intended) stuff again.

If something truly innovative like an attitude era happens it won't be from WWE. Maybe if ROH got some TV clearance forcing TNA to stop being like WWE, them two would battle it out and gradually force WWE to change.

We can dream.

For now I'll watch WWE cos I have to and continue to buy 70s-80s Memphis and Carolina stuff. I wish I was alive back then.

I wish to god TNA would try to be a viable alternative rather than be like WWE, as you said.

I've never seen much ROH and can't seem to find any on the emule program I use to download. I know Lance Storm is all over it in his blogs, so I assume they actually wrestle.

I wish I'd been around for the 70's stuff. I've read a ton about it but haven't seen much other than what I get on DVD's. The Dusty vs. Superstar stuff from WWWF was incredible.

I haven't seen a lot of Memphis stuff from the 80's. Comedy Central ran a special for a while a few years ago called "Andy Kaufman: I'm From Hollywood" that detailed the Lawler feud from start to finish with tons of clips. I have it on tape somewhere back home and it's BRILLIANT. I used to follow the action there via Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine and "Pro Wrestling This Week."

"PWTW" was hosted by Gordon Solie and Joe Pedicino and would show clips from all the territories. It was AWESOME 'cause stuff like Continental and Pacific Northwest were never broadcasted in Indiana (where I grew up) and you could actually see tape of these promotions you only read about in Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

Most smaller promotions I'd only see on an infrequent basis on my uncle's satellite because they were harder to find.

If you can find any old issues of the Apter Magazines (PWI, the Wrestler, Inside Wrestling) I STRONGLY reccomend them. They're kayfabed but still an invaluable chronicle. They, coupled with PWTW, were a lifeline to the entire wrestling world back in those days.

I wouldn't put it past Vince

My guess is 2pac, Elvis, Benoit and Owen Hart will all float down on a cloud from space to reveal that Vince is actually a Cyborg from planet Grapefruits and cannot die, unless his arch nemesis Randy Savage completes his task and impregnates his daughter, which he tried several years ago.

Here is proof that Vince is a robot, Dave Meltzer reported it in the Newsletter:
