Just a quick update about the wrestling scene in Europe, and more specifically NWE. Nu-Wrestling Evolution is an Italian promotion that's been running for a few years now. You might have heard of them as "Rikishi's promotion" since Kishi is one of the main guys there. They usually don't run a lot of shows during the year but they always manage to draw good crowds. In just a few days they'll be making their debut in Spain with two shows, both of which have been sold out for weeks now and keep in mind that one of the shows is in a 15 000 seat arena. Due to the success of their first Spanish tour they've added a bunch of other Spanish shows for June & July. Anyway, here's the talent roster for the Madrid (April 19th) and Bilbao (April 20th) shows:

Ultimate Warrior (he'll be only on the Madrid show and won't be wrestling)
Kishi (Rikishi)
Booker T
Sharmell
Sabu
Chris Mordertzky (Chris Masters)
Romeo Roselli (Romeo from The Heartthrobs - the current NWE champion)
Orlando Jordan
Heidenreich
Big Vito
Savio Vega
Black Pearl
Ultimo Dragon
Juventud Guerrera
Pac
Matt Cross
Sugaa
Trent Acid
Viktor Kruger
Mascarita Sagrada
Sarah Jones
Lacey Von Erich

And here are some of the scheduled matches:

Romeo Roselli © vs. Orlando Jordan - NWE World Title

Booker T vs. Kishi

Juventud Guerrera vs. Pac vs. Matt Cross vs. Ultimo Dragon - Ladder match

Big Vito vs. Heidenreich

Chris Mordertzky vs. Black Pearl

I got a bunch of press releases about this - on a side note it pisses me off when smaller promoters use old names like Warrior to bring in the crowds when he's clearly an ass.

Just thought I'd mention that Warrior was announced as a participant last week and the show was completely sold out weeks ago. Basically, Warrior wasn't used to draw anybody here. He's more of a bonus on top of whatever drew the fans. Warrior will be receiving an award for his career on that NWE show.

Well I'll be blown, old warrior's returning to the ring:

The Ultimate Warrior Announces His Return To Pro Wrestling

Staggering news resounded in the NWE Arena during the Madrid show on April 19th. More than 15,000 fans had the chance to see the award presentation which celebrated the career of professional wrestling icon, The Ultimate Warrior; who was in attendance to accept his award. However, controversy erupted during the presentation when NWE Champion Orlando Jordan mocked a young fan of Warrior's at the event. Warrior was quick to come to the defense of this fan which led to a heated conflict between Warrior and Jordan.

On June 25th 2008 in Barcelona, after a 12 year absence from the ring, The Ultimate Warrior will officially make his wrestling comeback in a match against Jordan. The news was confirmed this morning by Warrior's agent, Bernie Gernay in a statement.

"For over 10 years this is what the entire wrestling world has been waiting for, the return of the Warrior. We are excited to bring back the greatest character and energy to ever get into the ring. Ultimate Warrior is an incredible marketing machine and has kept a tremendous value to his name which is why the NWE has stepped up with a substantial deal that worked very well for both sides. There is no disputing that Warrior left a mark on professional wrestling that no other talent did and the reason why still today he is often imitated, but never duplicated."

Over the next few days the NWE will inform fans of the preparations for one of the biggest and most important wrestling events ever to be held in Europe. As the news progresses it is sure to be the headlines of wrestling news and forums throughout the internet and will most certainly have all in the wrestling industry and fans alike in great anticipation to see what the Warrior will deliver on June 25th, and perhaps beyond.

Bernie J. Gernay
Agent for The Ultimate Warrior

Man, that's a pretty random roster. One you'd see a CPU controlled promotion in EWR have. But.... I'd watch that shit. :D

Wow! This sounds like an interesting promotion! I wish I could check it out.

That press release from Warrior's agent is f'ing hilarious!

" There is no disputing that Warrior left a mark on professional wrestling that no other talent did and the reason why still today he is often imitated, but never duplicated."

The only imitation I've seen is Christian's on the "Self Destruction of..." DVD. And yeah, he left one hell of a mark...as the singlemost pompous, ignorant, self-serving jerk to ever step between the ropes.

He DOES get people talking, though. Can't blame the promoters there...it's just too bad that he'll divert attention away from a really talented roster and undoubtedly not lift a finger to make Jordan look good.

Thanks for posting this!

Queerin' doesn't make the world go round, brother! :)

Here's the results from the show:

Promotion: Nu-Wrestling Evolution
Date: 19/04/08
Location: Madrid, Spain
Attendance: 15000+

1) Black Pearl d. Chris Masters - Masters got a pretty good pop.
2) Tables match: Gangrel d. Savio Vega, Trent Acid - Gangrel superplexed Trent though a table for the win. Afterwards a pissed off Savio Vega laid out a challenge for a flaming tables match.
3) Ladder Match for the NWE Cruiserweight Championship: Juventud d. PAC, Super Nova (this was supposed to be Ultimo Dragon but he was injured), Matt Cross to win the title - Match of the night.
4) Vito d. Heidenreich - Vito was using his dress gimmick. Quick match. Under 4 minutes.
5) NWE Title Match: Romeo Roselli vs Orlando Jordan didn't take place. Roselli was injured so Orlando Jordan became the new champion.
6) Orlando Jordan d. a Jobber.
7) Warrior came out to receive his award which somehow lead to a confrontation with Orlando Jordan. There was a brawl and Warrior will be wrestling Jordan in Barcelona on 25/06.
8 ) Miss B. d. Sarah Jones
9) Kishi d. Booker T - Kishi was pretty over while Booker played the heel.

= Raven, Vampiro, Sabu & Lacey Von Erich were advertised but weren't there

Is that attendance legit? Holy shit, if so.

Please tell me they're booking Savio in crazy Puerto Rico-esque brawls.

Also, tell dudes to tighten their ring ropes up.

Funny you should mention the ropes. One of the things most of the reviews I read complained about was that the ring NWE used was horrible. :)

Yep, the attendance is legit. NWE has been doing big business in Europe and for quite some time now too (about 3 years). They don't run a lot of shows (I'd say 10-20 per year) but it seems whenever they run they always seem to draw at least 3000-4000 folks. Plus, they've been really smart about the way they do things. Wrestling used to be really hot in Italy so they mostly ran shows there. Now wrestling in Italy has cooled off but Spain is booming so they've relocated to the Spanish market. That 15 000 figure was their best attendance to date. They should be running another show as I type this and that one was sold out months ago as well (5000-6000 people in attendance I believe). Seriously though, Europe is a great place for wrestling right now. You've got WWE & TNA doing super successful tours, you've got NWE selling out arenas, you've got ASW in England running lots of fun shows most of which sell out, you've got a s**tload of English promotions running shows as well, NOAH's doing a couple shows soon, there's a lucha tour headlined by Santo coming to the UK, there's promotions running shows in Ireland, Scottland, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Russia, Austria, etc.

That's an interesting looking card. Matches 2,5 and 6 look really fun. Plus Trent Acid vs. Chris Masters is something I would watch to see if it'd be as bad as I think it would be.

Meanwhile, NWE announced that the combined attendance for both shows was 21 358 people. Btw, rumor has it the show with Warrior's return is almost sold out.

And finally, here's the official NWE video of Warrior's return to the ring:
